I'm 13 and I still have to have a babysittter, and my babysitter puts me in time out just for fighting w/ my sisters. (I can't stay home alone with my sisters all day).
I don't get any real kids jobs like babysitting.
I get told to 'shut up' at least 3 times a day. People cut me down all the time.

I feel like I'm not normal...am I normal??

my brothers and i had to have a babysitter till i was about 15 or so - we'd pretty much tried to kill each other on a daily basis (this was before Ritalin and other drugs were so popular)

i specifically remember one babysitter tieing us into bed with our sheets, and several of them just giving up and leaving

Tell your parents you will never be able to learn how to handle things by yourself if they don't let you be more independent. Tell them that you feel you are too old for a babysitter now and that you would be willing to babysit your sisters. That would be showing them a higher level of maturity. :)

As for me, I don't think I've had a babysitter since I was 9 or 10 (9-10 years ago).

Youll be 14? Thats a little unusual. Usually 14-year-olds are the babysitters. Maybe you could ask your mom nicely if you could not have a babysitter next year. But be sure to ask nicely.

That's ridiclous. I stayed at home by myself starting at about 12 as best I can remember. My mom didn't work, so I only "officially" had a babysitter one or two times, and that was my grandparents while my parents went out for their anniversary. :lol:

I've been watching my sisters for years, and I'm 15. I started babysitting other people's kids when I was 11-12 ish. *Shrugs* However, my next door neighbors, I'm friends with their oldest daughter whose 15, they have a nanny and the kids are 15, 13 (almost 14), and 8 (almost 9). But she's not a "babysitter". The 15 year old babysits whenever she isn't there and babysits for other people also. But with both parents working it gets hectic and the nanny fixes meals, goes grocery shopping, does the wash, takes the kids to their horseback riding lessons and stuff...they go to the stables pretty much everyday so they need soeone there, at least until my friend can drive. So, I mean, if that's the reason you have a babysitter, then it's not that peculiar.

My suggestion, is to stop fighting with your siblings if that's why you have a babysitter. If they pick a fight with you just walk away, don't fight back.

Maybe you need to proove to her that you don't need a babysitter anymore. Maybe you have to show her you can be mature. Start doing nice things for her and do like extra chores around the house and then maybe she will see your acting more mature. I don't know just a suggestion.

Given I went next door to my best friends everyday and was never put in a time out or spanked, but still. Hell, she even paid me since I was pretty much there to help her. I liked going, which is why I chose to go. I mean, staying home all day alone during the summer or going somewhere where I can see my best friend and do other things? We had a pool at home, but I wasnt allowed to go in it alone when I was so young and Im dumb and probably drown or something. But thats besides the point. I went because my parents didnt like the idea of me being home alone from 5am-4pm- anything could happen to me, and Id have no one around to call for help. (You think I knew my neighbors numbers?) Our 'babysitting' expereriences are totally different I can tell, but youre not 'weird'. Being a latch-key kid isnt all its cracked up to be.

I have another babysitter, too (but she's like 53) and she respects me more and doesn't put me in time out. She also knows that my sisters like making me mad, so she gets them in trouble...sometimes me, though.
