Oh my God has anyone ever seen this movie? The original 1976 version, I mean. Oh my God this movie is just EXCELLENT! I had heard about it all my life but it never seemed to be airing on any channels here until last week when I saw some of it on TNT. The part I caught, the scene where Coach Collins scolds all the girls in the gym for throwing the feminine tissues at Carrie and I loved that part alone. But then, I saw the whole movie when I timer recorded it from TNT Saturday morning, and omg it is the best! There are sooooo many memoriable moments in the movie too! Like at the beginning when the girls pelt Carrie with the tampons ect, and when Carrie's mother (Margaret) makes her recite quotes from her religious books! I just watched that scene over and over again and I just cannot help but LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! I don't know if they were trying to go for the horror-comedy aspect with the movie, but either way, it definatly works for me!

Margaret: "And God made Eve from the rib of Adam. And it was weak and loosed the Raven on the world. And the Raven was called sin." Say it. "The Raven was called sin."
Carrie: Why didn't you tell me, Mama (about mestruation)?
Margaret: Say it.
Carrie: No.
[Margaret slaps Carrie with the book]
Margaret: And the Raven was called sin.
Carrie: No, Mama!
[Margaret slaps her with the book again]
Carrie: And the Raven was called sin!
Margaret: "And the first sin was intercourse. The first sin was intercourse."
Carrie: I didn't sin, Mama!
Margaret: Say it!
[Margaret slaps Carrie with the book again]
Carrie: I didn't sin, Mama!!
Margaret: First sin was intercourse! First sin was intercourse!
Carrie: The first sin was intercourse! Mama, I was so scared, I thought I was dying! And the girls, they all laughed at me and threw things at me.
[Margaret slaps her again]
Margaret: "And eve was weak." Say it!
Carrie: No! No!
Margaret: Eve was weak! Eve was weak! Eve was weak! Say it, woman! Say it!!
Carrie: AND EVE WAS WEAK! EVE WAS WEAK!

I watched that scene (and the one in my signature) like 50 times each and laughed until I cried!!! Piper Laurie (Margaret), Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and Betty Buckly (Coach Collins) were GREAT in this movie! I was looking for any sites dedicated to it, but I not be able to find any.

And has anyone seen the remake? Is it any good?

I Love Carol Burnett!

Carrie is a great film. It was directed by Brian De Palma who also directed Scarface, The Untoucables and Mission Impossible. Early in his career he made many great horror/thrillers. Check out Dressed To Kill, Blow Out and Body Double.

The television remake of Carrie was good. Certainly as far as made for television movies go. However the 1999 theatrical sequal The Rage:Carrie 2 was just terrible. Also, to really see Carrie you need to see the DVD or at least the video. There was supposed to a lot of humor in the film, but a lot of the funnier stuff gets edited out on television.

I liked it- didn't love it... although, I'm not a fan of King's work anyway. But it was one of his better... creations.

My dad was watching this movie when I was about 7 years old, and I sorta hid in the corner and watched it, too. I didn't sleep for weeks! Nothing ever freaked me out like "Carrie."

Forget the made-for-tv 'remake', this is the movie to watch. Yeah, I've seen Carrie several times and I love it. IMO, it's one of King's best adaptations. If you get the chance, pick up the Collector's Edition on DVD - the extras are not to be missed. It still amazes me that Piper Laurie hadn't been in a movie since The Hustler, when Brian De Palma decided to cast her as Margaret White (what a performance!).

When Miss Collins is lecturing the girls on their little stunt, I get the biggest kick out of watching her.

"I'm sorry, could ya speak up?"

"Billy Nolan."

"Well isn't he the lucky one."

I liked De Palma's Carrie, along with his film 'Phantom of the Paradise'. But to be honest, I thought the tv remake was better. My problems with the remake was the guy who played Billy and the girl who took Amy Irving's character (what was her character called again???)- otherwives it was good, much more faithful to the book. There's one funny (yet desperate) attempt to update the story- Carrie is searching about Telekinesis online and her Mother just goes "THE INTERNET!!!!"

The sequel was alright, but it seemed like a desperate attempt to cash in on the original.

Last night I was thinking about this film cos some people in the street must've been talking about it and they were screaming "They're all gonna laugh at you" a million times!

Carrie is a great horror flick. I have to agree with some here that state the remake wasn't as good.

I thought Rage wasn't half bad however

I'm a huge Stephen King junkie, and Carrie is his first, and one of his best stories. I love the original movie, always have, always will. Everyone does such a great performance in it - Amy Irving, Sissy Spacek, William Katt... even John Travolta! The remake was alright - up until the ending which completely spoiled the whole thing in my mind. Oh well.

Useless Carrie trivia: did you guys know that Sue Snell and her mother are played by real life mother and daughter Amy Irving and Priscilla Pointer? :) Thought I'd share :)

Yeah, the only other problem with the remake was the ending- but the reason the ending was changed is that a tv-show was planned if the remake did well- following Carrie's adventures in Miami.

More Carrie Trivia: the boy on the bike who says "Creepy Carrie, creepy Carrie!" was played by director Brian De Palma's nephew, Cameron, but his voice was provided by actress Betty Buckley, who played the gym teacher, Miss Collins.

Yeah. :)

Which brings up more Carrie trivia:

Amy's mother talked about the scene at the very end, when Sue wakes up from her nightmare screaming hysterically. Instead of saying Sue, she said, "It's alright, Amy." At first she was worried that the audience would pick up on it, but everyone was too busy screaming themselves, so it was never noticed.

Betty Buckley was asked to literally slap Nancy Allen across the face during the fight out on the athletic field.. a total of 30 times.

I knew that! I knew that!

You really have to get Carrie on VHS or DVD(if it even is on DVD). TNT cuts it too much for my liking.

It's funny I happen to read this now because just tonight my sister & I went to a concert, after the concert, she had to go to the bathroom. I waited for her outside the bathroom and when she came out she told me there was a woman in the bathroom who had hair just like Amy Irving in Carrie!! Then I read this!!

I've seen Carrie so many times. The part that freaked me out the first time I saw it--aside from the part near the end when Sue is putting the flowers on Carrie's'grave', and the hand comes out of the ground--is when Carrie comes home from the prom, and goes upstairs, and when she puts the light on, her mother is standing behind the door. At first I didn't see her behind there, but the more I watch it, I now focus on the mother in that scene knowing that when Carrie puts on that light, mama is standing right there. Creepy.

Oh, and Ms Collins!! I know it's only a movie but for her to slap a student like that? Oh, and does anybody know who Edie McClurg is? She's a character actress(Ferris Bueller's Day Off; Planes, Trains & Automobiles; Back to School--she just has small roles, but I think she's very recognizable). She also plays one of the students, the one with the glasses.

Oh, and one last thing--I watched a movie called "Jawbreaker" and the parents of one of the girls was William Kaat and P.J.Soles who played Norma in Carrie!! That's my useless piece of 'trivia'!!

There's a Special Edition (not Collector's, as I'd previously posted) out on DVD. It's worth picking up.

[I know this an old thread, but I wanted to restart the discussion]

The music that plays in that scene is so PERFECT for it! We hear Carrie crying and Margaret preaching and then she sticks the knife in Carrie's back! Great stuff!

I knew most of the stuff others had mentioned. Another trivia bit is that NO stunt doubles were used. The hand that grabbed Sue at the end was actually Sissy Spacek's hand!

And is it just me, or is PJ Soles really, really good looking?

There's a Carrie Musical. It is sort of infamous amongst the theatre community for being one of the highest profile flops ever. It still has a fanbase though (there's a website dedicated to it) and there have been small revivals all over the place, but apparently it is being rewritten with Stephen King for sometime next year. I'd really love to see it. There are some bootleg audio files online, but I haven't heard them yet (there's a song called 'And Eve was Weak'), and some people were selling video of a performance on ebay a while ago I believe.

I never noticed that! Wow, I gotta watch it again now. Priscilla Pointer's appeared in most if not all of Amy's movies. David Irving (Amy's brother) is also in films - he's a director (and a very nice guy ;) ) so that's one talented family.

That's who I was thinking of. Ergh. PJ Soles was the one in the baseball hat and Nancy Allen was the one with John Travolta. Oops. I get those two confused a lot.

Brian De Palma was never married to P.J. Soles. However he was married to Nancy Allen from 1980-1983. He casted her as Liz in Dressed To Kill (1980) and Sally in Blow Out (1981), and considered her for Elvira in Scarface (1983).

I got up enough courage to watch the pig's blood scene. I have a question, how was that guy with the curly hair suddenly passed out cold on the floor in front of Carrie. Also I saw somebody go right up where Carrie was why didn't they try to stop her from going phsyco and burning down the whole place?

When the bucket hit Tommy over the head, it was with such force that it killed him. He wasn't passed out. As far as why someone didn't try to stop Carrie, they were probably affraid.
