HEy- I posted awhile back saying I had a new fan fic. Bear with me, I am not too sure how much I can type, but here goes!

CD sat down on the couch, looking at the mess surrounding her. She hated moving, but it was nice to be getting settled in her own apartment again. She went out to the deck and watched the city lights.She had really missed San Francisco, and couldn't believe she was back. The last year had been difficult to say the least, especially the way she'd had to leave, but it had been necessary. She hated hurting people, and knowing she had hurt Nate most of all was very painful. Nate had never been far from her mind the whole time she'd been gone. Would he understand? Probably not. She turned back into her apartment, surveying the boxes once more. The boxes were definitely winning the war, she thought. There was a knock at the door, and CD went to answer it,curious. Not too many people knew she was back. It was Kate. "Kate-hi,come on in." Kate walked in, and gave CD a hug. "Just had to say hi to one of my best Inspectors." Kate said with a smile. "Well, it's good to see you, CD said. I was going to call you,but it's been hectic here." "Well, I hope you don't mind me dropping by, but I have been worried about you, and couldn't wait to see you," Kate said. CD looked down at her hands. "Kate, I hope you know I didn't want to leave like that,but-" Kate stopped her. "No explanations are necessary,kiddo. I know what happened, and you made the right decision." Kate smiled. "I am just glad you are back, and that you are okay."

okay, here is more:

"So, how is everybody?" CD asked. Kate sat down. "Everyone is good. Magda and Gabe are doing well, and Ben is growing like crazy. The biggest news is that Jinny had a baby, and is getting married." CD was dumbfounded.Amazing how things can change,she thought. "Raina is Raina," Kate continued. "I also have a new officer, Stacy, who needs to switch to decaf in my opinion, but there may be hope. Magda is just really glad Jinny is back from maternity leave. Going on calls with the Captain can be exhausting." Kate grinned, and CD also had to laugh. Kate didn't say anything for a moment, and CD looked at her, waiting. "C'mon Kate, tell me. How is Nate?" Kate took a deep breath and sat forward a bit. "Truthfully, he has not been the same since you left. He hates being partnered with Raina, and it seems he has just lost a part of himself that he can't get back."Kate took CD's hand. "He won't admit it to anyone, but he misses you. He is angry, he thinks with good reason, but he misses you all the same. He doesn't know why you left, but I think he will understand once you talk to him." CD could feel the tears coming. She hated knowing that Nate was in so much pain. " I don't know if I can talk to him, if I can face him." Kate gave her a hug. "I think you will know what to say when the time is right. I will let you get back to unpacking, and call if you need anything,okay?" CD nodded. "Thanks for stopping by, Kate. It means alot. It's nice to have at least one friend here." Kate hugged CD. "Once they know you are back, you will have all the friends you need." With that, Kate left, and CD headed to bed, deciding to tackle the boxes in the morning.

Two days later, CD was getting dressed for work. She was incredibly nervous. Today of all days, she wanted to make a good impression. With a new position in a different division, she wanted to goet off on the right foot. It was early. CD wanted to get to work early, and settle herself at her desk before anyone arrived. She also wanted to try to avoid her former division mates at least for today. SHe headed out to the kitchen for one last cup of coffee. Finishing that, CD glanced at the clock on the wall. Time to go. She picked up her gun holster, and her new badge, and left.

sorry it has been a few days, but I will definitely post more tonight! (sigh) I have to go pick my charge up now......oh well, Mom is working late tonight, I get to take the kid to Mickey D's, which means I don't have to cook!!!!! I will be good and order a salad, don't want to undo my weight loss!

Okay, I have bonus time off! Here goes:


CD waked into her new office. She was now Captain of the Missing Persons Division. She was one floor lower than her old division, which was nice. CD knew that her former co-workers knew she was back, as she had asked the Chief to keep it quiet. SHe also knew Kate would never say anything either, which was the way CD wanted it. After she talked to Nate, she would call her old friends. Nate. CD knew she had to call him;she did not want to run into him accidentally,or have hime learn some other way of her return. It would make what she had to say that much harder. CD did not know what the chances would be of them getting back together, since from what Kate said, Nate was still understandably angry. CD sighed. No one else was there yet. "Time to get this over with"< she said to herself, and picked up the phone.

Nate woke up in a foul mood, just as he every day for the past year. Every morning he replayed that last day in his mind.


He and CD had woken up late. It was their day off, and they had no plans whatsoever. They had made love,then eaten a lazy breakfast.It had been four months since the shooting, and the one thing they had learned was to not take life for granted. Nate had wanted to make this permanent and that evening proposed after a romantic dinner. CD said yes, and then they went to CD's and made love. The next morning, they had gone to work. As far as Nate could tell, things had changed when CD got a phone call. She told Nate she had to go to an appointment that she had forgotten about, and was gone. He went home later and found the note with the ring. Her stuff that she kept there was gone. What had happened? Nate was destroyed. He had taken some time off, tried to find CD, only to come back and find that he was partnered with Raina. As if things weren't bad enough....Raina constantly asked him if he ever heard from CD, why she left, etc. It was all so frustrating.

Back in the present, Nate got up,showered, and ate breakfast, if one could call chocolate doughnuts breakfast. CD had always tried to get him to eat eggs,but he'd stubbornly held his ground. He had almost reached his car when his phone rang.

"Hello?" Nate asked, unlocking the car door. At first, there was silence on the other end, and he was about to hang up when a voice said, "It's me." Nate froze. "CD?" Nate asked incredulously. "Yes," CD said quietly. It was so good to hear his voice that she was about to cry. Nate, on the other hand, was completely dumbfounded. He couldn't say anything at first. "What are you- where are- what makes you think that you can just call me?" Nate was ticked. After of nothing from her, she just calls up like nothing happened. Well,he wasn't going to let her get away with it, no siree. CD took a deep breath. So far, his reaction was not as bad as she thought it would be, but he had yet to see her. "I just wanted to call to tell you I am back in the city. I work in Missing Persons." She left out the Captain part; there would be time for that later.

Okay, sorry this is short- I just found out I may have to go out of town tonight. Have to pack!

okay, I am SOOOOOOOOO sorry for not writing any fic for a while- been busy!

(Nate and CD are talking on the phone)

Nate did not say anything. So, she was back, and working in the same building. He was now driving to work, and would be there soon. He was bound to run into her, and that first time would be a shock. He was half tempted to call in sick, but knew Raina would chew him out later for leaving her with the interrogations that they were doing today. Nate took a deep breath. " I guess a 'welcome back' is in order, is there anything else?" Nate asked. CD hesitated. This was harder than she thought. He sounded so angry.... "Nate, I would like to talk to you about what happened, if you will listen. I am going to be holed up in my office all day so I was wondering if you could come by my apartment tonight,around eight?" Nate sighed. Better to get this over with. "Okay, what is your address?" he asked. CD told him, and then Nate disconnected. How was he ever going to get through the day now? Truth be told, he loved hearing her voice, and a small part of him was happy taht he was going to see her tonight.

CD hung up the phone and breathed a sigh of relief. At least that was taken care of, and maybe she could concentrate on work. The Inspectors started arriving, and once everyone was there, she introduced herself. After giving the standard 'I am glad I am here' sppech, she went into her private office. She spent the rest of the day going over current cases and talking with the Inspectors about where they were in their investigations. All in all, not a bad day, though the evening ahead was always at the back of her mind. She knocked off at six, and headed home.

Nate arrived at work. Only the Captain and eager-beaver Stacy were there. He sat down at his desk, wondering what to do. He did not want to say anything to the gang about CD, but had a feeling Kate knew what was going on. He knocked on her door. "Yeah?" Kate answered, not looking up from her desk. Nate closed the door,sat down, and waited for Kate to finish reading. Kate looked up, put her glasses down and looked at Nate. "She called you, right?" she asked Nate. He looked at her. "So you did know she was back," he said. Kate leaned back in her chair. "I saw her a couple of days ago, yes," Kate answered. Nate started pacing. "What am I supposed to do here? She calls me out of the blue, wants to see me, and I am supposed to just go on like nothing happened?"Nate asked. "I don't know what to think. Do you know where she has been? Why she left in the first place?" Nate asked. "I know why she left, but I do not know where she has been exactly." Kate stood to face Nate. "Just let her explain. listen to her, and then you can decide. CD knew this would be hard, and she never knew if she would even get this chance with you." Nate nodded. "Yeah, I guess I will, but it is going to be hard seeing her again." Nate opened the door, and then turned back. "How does she look?" he asked. Kate smiled. "She looks great." Nate nodded and walked out. The rest of his day went fairly smooth. Raina was mercifully absent, He finished paperwork, did a couple of interrogations for his cases. Magda and Jinny tried to talk to him a few times, but realized he wanted to be left alone. They were used to his moods by now. Nate drove home at six-thirty, changed clothes, ate a sandwich, and headed to CD's apartment.

CD was ready. She had come home, unpacked some to make the living room more inviting, and then changed clothes. Now there was nothing to do except wait nervously for Nate to arrive. Right at eight, there was a knock. CD went to answer it, her heart beating way too fast. She opened the door. Nate stood there, his hands in his pockets and looking as nervous as CD felt. "Hi", she said. "Would you like to come in?"CD backed away from the door so Nate could enter, and then closed the door. Both stood in the entryway, not sure what to say or do. "Come on in," CD said finally,walking towards the living room.Nate followed, taking off his jacket. “Would you like something to drink?” she asked. Nate spoke for the first time. “No, I would not like something to drink. What I would like is to know why I am here and what happened a year ago!” CD was a bit taken aback at Nate’s outburst, but tried to put herself into his shoes. This was going to be so hard. She sat down, and Nate did the same. Okay, here goes. “It all started when I got shot. While I was in the hospital, Prescott Bower contacted me. He knew through his sources that I had figured out that Liz was involved. He called Liz an idiot, said she had bungled the entire operation, effectively putting some other plans on hold. He offered me a lot of money if I would work for him secretly. All I had to do was to go to work as normal, collect whatever info he wanted, and just help him out in whatever he needed. I was too shocked to say anything, said I would think about it. He warned me not to talk to anybody about this.” She stopped for a moment. Nate’s head was spinning. This was not what he had expected…. CD continued. “What I didn’t know was that my phone calls were being screened. Kate had figured out something like this could happen, and had contacted the Chief for help. Right after I was discharged, the Chief came to see me, and asked me to go along with Bower’s scheme. The idea was to go undercover, get evidence to nail this guy and put him back in prison. Since I wasn’t going to be going back to work for a couple of months, I would have plenty of time to be with Bower and hopefully get done what I needed to get done. So I called him, and said I would do it. He got a bit suspicious at first, wanting to make sure I was not tricking him, but I started ranting about how I was not going to get any kind of an award for getting Liz, no one had even said good job. I went on and on about nothing, that I was way under appreciated, and now I had major hospital bills, and the extra money would come in handy. Bower said he would get back to me. I played it cool for a couple of days. I had to keep all of this from you, and that was so hard. There was just no way that I was going to get you involved”. Nate looked at her. ‘You didn’t think you could trust me?” he asked. CD shook her head. “It wasn’t that, just that it would just be easier if you didn’t know. Look, nobody knew we were personally involved until right before I left, and believe me, I got into trouble for that. As far as the Chief knew, you and I were just partners. Since you were going to be working a lot with the others anyway while I was out, it would be easy for me to do things on my own.” Nate remembered that. In the first couple of months after CD had come back, it seemed like she always had something to do for Kate, or interrogations. She rarely had gone out on calls with him. At the time, it hadn't seemed strange to him. He had figured that CD was just trying to take it nice and slow while recovering from her injuries.gunshot wound. “ I hated keeping this from you. It was always so hard whenever we were together to not say anything, but I knew deep down it was for your safety. I kept thinking it would be over soon, and life could get back to normal.” CD moved to a chair closer to Nate. Prescott laid down the rules. He still wanted me to be a “good cop”, so I was still able to do my job without jeopardizing any cases. Mostly, he just wanted information now and then. Only Kate and the Chief knew what I was doing. I was in touch with them constantly, mostly through secret email accounts that we thought were secure. I saw Bower whenever he wanted, giving him whatever he wanted. I was always wearing some sort of mike, hoping to get him to admit to something big that we could nail him on.” CD stopped again, waiting to see if Nate would say anything. “Did you have to be ‘involved’ with him?” Nate asked. CD nodded, hoping Nate would not ask for details. “I hated it, but it was part of the job.” Nate go up and started pacing. “I just don’t understand why you couldn’t say anything to me. I wouldn’t have blown your cover, and maybe I could have helped.” CD shook her head. “I couldn’t do that, Nate. I had to keep you out of it as much as possible. Bower knew I was seeing you and wasn’t happy about it. I told him it was all part of my cover.” CD shook her head. “Then things went wrong.” Nate sat down again. Tears were falling down on CD’s face. “What happened?” he asked quietly. He really could not believe what he was hearing. “The Chief found out there was a mole on the force, keeping track of me. This person had managed to find our email accounts and Bower then knew I was undercover. That phone call I got the day I left was from the Chief. I went to meet him and Kate to figure out what to do. There were credible threats being made against me, and you. Kate was ticked. She could not believe that I had not told them I was personally involved with you. They figured the best thing was for me to go underground until they could catch Bower. The idea was to leak information to the mole and wait for Bower to come after me. I asked them about you. The Chief said they would keep an eye on you, but he really thought that Bower would spend all of his efforts on finding me. So, I made it look like I was leaving you for good. We were always trying to stay two steps ahead of Bower, while trying to catch him. We finally did, last month. FBI agents attempted to arrest him, but he attacked back, and was killed. I talked to the Chief about coming back. Even though I messed up by not telling anyone about you, the Chief was impressed with my work. I got a promotion and I am now Captain of the Missing Persons Division.” CD sat down closer to Nate. “I know that you must be angry, and maybe confused about all of this, but please know one thing. I never stopped loving you, all I could think about was getting this guy so I could come home again. I never wanted to hurt you.”

Nate got up again, his mind reeling. Of all the scenarios that had run through his mind why CD left, this never came to mind. He could not believe that he hadn’t known that CD was undercover. How could he not know? He needed time to think about this. Part of him wanted to throw his arms around CD and never let go.
