Just wondering how many people there are here that watched Cheers in its original run or grew up watching it when it was still on.

I know I sure did - I remember the Kirstie Alley years really well. My parents were both Cheers fans, so I would often sit down to watch Cheers with them, and I got hooked on to it. I always liked Carla and Rebecca the best. I was almost 8 when Cheers ended for good. :(

I started watching it from the beginning. I remember I didn't like the show at first.

I was 1 when the show began & 10 when it ended. My mom likes the show (her fave is Cliff) & my sister & brother-in-law don't watch TV. My niece is almost 4 & watches cartoons. (PBS & Disney Channel ones, not the ones on Nickelodeon) My faves are Sammy, Diane & Carla. :)

I watched it in its original run, and I liked it.

It was the first time I thought a sitcom was winking at me.
I got the jokes.

aw I did. Well, part of it, at least. I was born in '85, and my earliest memories are of watching Cheers. My sister, who is 13 years older than me, and had a large hand in raising me, was obsessed with cheers, and loved lilith.
She used to put my little three-year-old hair in a bun.
She even had the music score to the Cheers Theme song, so that was the third song I learned to play on the piano, after "chopsticks" and "mary had a little lamb"
my piano teacher was pretty damn impressed. :D

is it any wonder that i am the way i am?

 I just saw your profile- I'm only a couple of months older than you (1985er here too). My parents would tape Cheers all the time...I KNOW I have a tape here somewhere...I'm just not sure where it's at...that had like two or so episodes of Cheers as they originally aired 10+ years ago.

I remember when all 3 of Kirstie Alley's "Look Who's Talking" movies came out - I went to see the 1st and 2nd movies when they were in theatres and I remembered her as Rebecca on Cheers.

I remember my mom taking me to see "Three Men and a Baby" when I was 7. I'm a 1980 baby. lol I thought that Ted Danson was cute back then...Steve Guttenburg, too...Whoo! http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys_1/malelovies.gif

I went and saw "Three Men and a Little Lady" with my friend! - I love the original one the best! I used to think that Nancy Travis, who played Sylvia, really was british..hahaha! But then I saw the movie "So I Married An Axe Murderer!" LOL

Oh and I saw Rebecca's EVAN DRAKE twice in person! One, accidently cause I was walking up a mountain with my dad and he was coming down with his dog and said HELLO:) -I was 12 or 13 at the time. The second time I saw Tom Skerrit was in 1997 when I was an extra in the movie "Contact." I had to stand there and watch Jodie Foster and Tom Skerrit get in and out of a helicoptor and then I had to watch them pretend like they were on the news. Hahaha!!! - Robert Zemekis waved to me, you all!http://img11.photobucket.com/albums/v34/TroyandLindseyFan/yay.gif

I watched it when it was originally on. I watched once in a while when Shelley Long was on it and I watched it every week after Kirstie Alley joined the cast.

I watched Cheers during its original run. I didn't follow it all the way through because the show lost its charm for me after Shelley Long's departure.

I've been watching the Rebecca years lately, and I'm enjoying them, but those first five years were special and will always be my favorite.

I was born just a few days before the episode "Barwars" aired (in March 88), coincidence.... I think not.

I have no recollection of ever watching it, although the themesong has ALWAYS been fresh in my mind.
everytime I heard it, I knew what it was from, and exactly how it looked on screen.

Not me. I was born exactly 3 years before the last episode was aired, so even if I had watched it, I would've been too young to understand it. My dad told me he used to watch it, though, but he never became obsessed like me.

Well, considering I was born between "Rescue Me" and "Birth, Death, Love and Rice," I didn't see more than an episode here or there by chance (if my parents were watching or something) during the final seasons. I don't have any real recolections of seeing it, though.

But once I got older, about 14 - present, I used to see it from time to time in syndication. I remember watching back to back episodes on, I think it was the WB, once, and they were the season five finale and the season six premiere. I was like "Uh, whoa..." at the cast change, LOL. Its always been my "summer show" since it's always aired late, I'd only catch it in the summers. But it wasn't until this year that I realllllly got the beauty of the show! :)

I was born in between

"Christmas Cheers" and "Woody for Hire, and Norman of the Apes"

At any rate, I was 5 when the show ended, and I dont remember ever watching it, here is what I do remember.

My mom used to tape christmas specials off of TV alot, especially this certain Mickey Mouse one, and it had all these 80s commercials, well strangely enough, my favorite thing on it was when Goofy goes skiing, this is strange because there were always commercials for Cheers (It would have been in syndication by then already, she probably taped it in 1990) and I remember it didnt look interesting at all because of the old fashioned theme song they showed.

Anyhow, that is the first time I remember it, but the reason that is strange, is because the episode where Diane and Frasier go Skiing reminds me of when Goofy went skiing, and I just made the connection.

The first time I ever remember actually watching Cheers was maybe 2 or 3 summers ago, I started watching it casually on Nick at Nite, but I never really got into it (the only episode I remember seeing is the one where Kelly tries to prove to Woody she can be normal, and she ends up vandalizing the subway etc). I remember that my dad always watched Frasier, so I had seen that very regularly, but I never knew that he had been on Cheers.

I cant remember the first episode of Three's Company I saw, but I remember I was in love with it instantly. When TVLand kept playing those 48 hours marathons the week before i had watched Three's Company as much as possible giving that I didnt realize it had been on saturday. The next weekend a Cheers marathon was on, and though I didnt watch it straight through, I watched quite a bit of it, and started to grow really attached to it, realizing how completely hilarious it was.

I got into Green Acres the same way, the next weekend. The teachers at my school were surprised to find that I was so obsessessed with Three's Company and TV in general given how well I do with school etc.

I still cant decide whether I like Three's Company or Cheers more...

have you noticed that I take a little question and turn it into a speech?

I was 8 when the show first aired. I dont remember much from the 1st season, but i do remember watching "Showdown" at my grandmothers house, and i remember specifically seeing the gag when Sam opened the door to his office and the entire bar had their ears pressed to the door. I remember back then finding that bit to be very clever. I think Cheers was on too late for me to be watching it back then, but i recall laying in bed and listening while my mother watched Cheers in the living room, the moment that sticks out in my mind for some reason is I remember it was the episode "Sam at Eleven" cause i remember hearing the joke about McEnroe. I dont know if that was from its original air date but i do recall that. But as i got older I started to see more and more of the show and i would guess around Season 4 was when i first started to watch a few episodes and really learned to appreciate the show. I can remember being really into the whole Diane/Shelley leaving the show hoopla that happened at that time and i was very excited to watch Diane's last show. Plus around that time was when Cheers first went into syndication and i can remember really getting into the show at that point, watching them on the old WPIX station in New York( the venerable Chanelll 11 that George mocked on Seinfeld).
And so I guess i truly watched Cheers regulary in prime time from the time Rebecca showed up to the end of the series, and caught up on the Diane years through syndication.

I was born the day after The Cranemakers aired so I don't remember watching Cheers during it's original run. I think I do remember my grandfather watching it in syndication though. I became a fan once it started airing on N@N. It's gone on to become one of my favorite sitcoms. :)
