View Full Version : All in the Family or Happy Days?
TVFactFan 06-19-2004, 08:15 PM Well we know AITF ruled the first half of the 70's and HD was popular during the last half of the 70's. I'm a fan of both shows and i give AITF the slight edge because Fonzie was a little too cartoonish for me. AITF had one bad season while HD had 5 so AITF WINS!!
Skywalker 06-19-2004, 08:24 PM That's a tough one. I'm a fan of both shows. I guess I have to go with All in the Family. I liked Archie more than the Fonz. TvSHOW, are you going to buy Happy Days season 1 in August? Season 1 wasn't one of my faves, but I haven't seen the show in almost 2 years so I'm definitely buying season 1.

No i'm only buying the seasons tha were taped in front of a live studio audience. And they would be seasons 3 to 11.
Brent88 06-19-2004, 08:49 PM AITF. :D
spunkygirl 06-19-2004, 10:38 PM Happy Days :D

HD just seemed more LIVELY after season 2. It was too dry and boring with the around the clock opening credits. I hate seasons 1 and 2
EmoJoe 06-19-2004, 10:48 PM Happy Days!
James 06-19-2004, 11:36 PM Hands down, thumbs up, the winner is Happy Days!!!
AIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Television 06-20-2004, 12:07 AM Its a close race but I'll go with All In The Family.
Nighthawk76 06-20-2004, 01:06 AM All In The Family!
dandelion wine 06-20-2004, 01:10 AM Hmm, I'm going to go with.....Happy Days!
barwars 06-20-2004, 07:46 AM Happy Days
It's funny that you don't like Fonzie because he's "cartoonish", but prefer the later seasons. Which, on the whole, are a lot more cartoonish than the first 2 seasons (which are the best, IMO)

Besides the Mork Episodes, why were the later seasons Cartoonish?

I dont think they were, Im just using your word.
If you watch, you can see that Fonzie is less "cartoonish" in the early seasons.

You are probably right. I don't think Fonzie was turning on thejukebox with his elbow in seasons 1 and 2.
Tundra Wolf 06-20-2004, 12:59 PM HAPPY DAYS!!! I hated All in the Family, and I hated Archie Bunker's personality.
Sean Snow 06-20-2004, 03:29 PM All in the Family. I used to like Happy Days, but I'm not a big fan of it now.
jamesanthony 06-20-2004, 04:06 PM AITF is better by far to me. Happy Days lost its charm when they switched to the 3 camera system. It was one of those shows that seemed to drag on way too long after that especially after Richie left and they became extremely careless about the hairdos, fashions and timeline. By the end it was a big mess. I saw a 1981 episode where they were supposed to be in 1963; they got the background music right, but the looks were outrageously wrong: Chachi and Roger looked like they were in 1981, Joannie had an 80s perm and a miniskirt that would not have been in fashion until at least 1967, Jenny Piccolo had an accurate flip tease hairstyle but her miniskirt was far too short for the era as well. In 1965 and 1966 school girls had to kneel down in front of a school matron and if their skirt didn't sweep the floor they were sent home. Also Fonzie's DA hairdo and James Dean look and Marion's beehive and hoop dresses were relics of the 50s by this point. This show should've just had a tidy 5 year run. The audience screaming when the actors came on was also ridiculously uncalled for.
AITF fell off in stages but the last year is the only really weak season that they could've done without and Stephanie is a big reason why.
Stormtracker TF 06-20-2004, 04:55 PM Happy Days for sure. AITF Is good too, though.
Brian 06-20-2004, 05:23 PM I choose Happy Days. It's a break from the real world whenever I watch the show. AITF can be too political at times.
jamier42 06-20-2004, 09:11 PM Happy Days
Small Wonderian 06-20-2004, 09:15 PM I will have to go with Happy Days.

It was very political in seasons 1 and 2. Maybe That's why I haven't bought the DVD for those seasons.
"Happy Days" disgusts me. "All in the Family" is infinatly better, imo.
I enjoy both shows but I like All in the family a little better than Happy Days.
Michael72581 03-19-2007, 10:16 PM All In The Family
Adamantium 03-19-2007, 11:09 PM Happy Days.
All in the Family was fine one time around, but after that, it kind of bores me. I can watch Happy Days over and over and over again. It's just a fun show to watch. Both shows are classic, and All in the Family had a bigger impact on television, but Happy Days is the better show to watch, IMO.
Brieannas21 03-19-2007, 11:23 PM I would pick AITF because it was funny and edgy, HD was cute and not very funny but entertaining to watch. So AITF wins hands down.
All In The Family, for some reason I could never get into Happy Days.
kambreesuncle 03-20-2007, 10:20 AM My choice is Happy Days. Sure most of the eps. were a bit cartoonish, but it's fun and makes me feel good.
Forgive Me, But AITF was one of the most distasteful shows I've ever seen. All the characters were really dispicable.
Tubehead 03-20-2007, 01:32 PM I like happy days better then all in the family.
Buffyboy323 03-20-2007, 02:37 PM ALL IN THE FAMILY 100%. One of the greatest shows ever, imo. No contest.
Lee G 03-20-2007, 02:48 PM I prefer All In The Family. Happy Days was never my cup of tea. This is like asking to compare the major leagues to "A" level minor league ball.
Come to think of it, I disliked almost all the shows that aired on ABC during the 70's. That network had so many rotten shows during those days. CBS and NBC were clearly much better. One ABC show I did watch on a mostly regular basis was Welcome Back, Kotter. But by the third season, that show was going downhill also.
Zebra 3 03-21-2007, 12:57 PM Though I'm fan of Happy Days (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=12) episodes starring Ron Howard, it's All in the Family (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=31) all the way. It really had it all, great cast, scripts, relevancy, realism...you name it, it rules - my all-time favourite US sitcom.
freshprinceofLA 03-22-2007, 11:02 PM Tough choice. I love both shows. But I'll have to say happy days.
comedyfreak 03-23-2007, 05:43 AM I also like both shows so it's a hard choice to make. I watched Happy Days faithfully during it's entire run originally and All In The Family I watched a great deal from the fourth season on. I'll narrowly pick Happy Days.
TVFactFan 03-23-2007, 09:10 AM My choice is Happy Days. Sure most of the eps. were a bit cartoonish, but it's fun and makes me feel good.

Same thing Bill cosby said when AITF first premiered on CBS
friendsfan77 03-23-2007, 10:03 AM All in the Family. I really don't like Happy Days as much as I used to.
catlover79 03-23-2007, 12:53 PM Happy Days. I was never a huge fan of AITF because I couldn't stand all that yelling!!
TVFactFan 03-23-2007, 01:02 PM Happy Days. I was never a huge fan of AITF because I couldn't stand all that yelling!!
It was funny how both shows owned the decade, AITF owned 71-76, HD owned 76-80
