My husband has loved coins since he was a child. It's tied into his passion for History. He's never had time to become a serious collector, but since last Fall, he's sort of obsessed. He orders them off eBay, Littleton Coin Company, U.S. Mint, Home Shopping Channels, etc.

It's a nice hobby. I'm not crazy over what's on the credit card bills lately, but I'm happy he finally has time to devote to his hobby.

Anyone else collect coins?

I collect coins. I got most of them from working as a cashier. If fact when I worked at McDonalds, I found a 1874 Indian head penny in a penny roll. I also have lots of coins from other countries.

I collect coins, too-- as well as stamps. (Which by the way, I am STILL trying to sell from two years before LOL). But anyway, it's a great hobby. Pretty costly yes, but nonetheless great. Lately, I've withdrawn from it though. I don't know whether if it's due to a lack of interest or time constraint, but anyhoo, I'm glad your husband is enjoying it!

I collect pennies with years I like (50s, my birth year, etc.). Seriously, I love pennies. I hate nickels with a passion though.

I've been collecting coins from my birth year for years now, including state quarters. That habit can cost a bundle, as I learned from a friend of mine who has spent an obscene amount..

I collect 1980 Pennies,Nickels,Dimes,and Quarters.
That's the year I was born. I thought I was the only one.
I have also been collecting the state quarters. I have a state map I put them in, that was made for collecting the state quarters.

When I was younger I used to be one heck of a coin collector... for a kid anyways. There used to be this neat store at the mall and my friend and I would go buy coins there. And my grandma gave me some great old ones. I still have them saved in cases, but I stopped collecting long ago.

I collect coins. I collect a lot of American coins, but also have some Canadian coins and some Russian rubles in my coin collection, which I got from a friend who went on a trip to Russia a couple summers ago. Once in 7th grade my english teacher gave everyone in my social studies class coins from St. Lucia. They were neat. They were silver and square-shaped with a number 2 on them. I lost mine in 9th grade, though. :( I still have my Russian rubles, though. :)

I collect them, have been since I was a kid. I have a bunch of proof sets but no longer collect those because it became quite expensive. I still save wheaties and any coin minted before 1964. I have all the state quarters and whenever I come across a bicentenial quarter I put that aside too. I also collect 2 dollar bills and any dollar bills that are really crisp. I have a bunch of Canadian and German stuff too.

My mom collects the state quarters that have been coming out. I keep telling her that in a few years, they are still only going to be worth twenty five cents.

I've started collecting the state quarters, both "P" & "D". I think those mean Philadelphia & Denver. I have most of those up to 2003 and are trying to get the 2004 going.

I also have a Sacajawea(sp?) coin my boyfriend gave me and I have some really old pennies from the 1950's

Okay, this is basically my husband's first thread. It was his idea that I create it, and he told me what to write.

He keeps asking me how many hits it's getting, and I read them to him.

Come on guys, let's make the old man feel good. ;)

Okay. :D ;)

I never went beyond "amateur coin collector" so I really don't know the good questions to ask, but here's a few if he'd like to answer:

What does he consider his most valuable coin?

Does he have any from foreign countries?

What is his oldest coin?

How many does he have?

Thank you Kat.

He says his most valuable coin is a 1917 S Walker half dollar, worth a couple of thousand. I almost killed him over that purchase.

He also has a 1909 to 1941 collection of uncirculated wheat pennies.

He doesn't collect foreign coins, but has a 1943 Australian large penny with a kangaroo on it. (I don't even know what I'm typing here). He's dictating.

His oldest coin is an 1878 Morgan Dollar from Carson City.

He's has too many to count, but estimates it at about 5 thousand.

And he thanks you for asking.

I don't collect coins per se, but if I come across a half dollar, silver dollar, or two-dollar bill, I save it. I'm weird like that.

WOWIE. He's doing real well!
I don't know the value of any of my coins, but I'm certain none come close to 2 thousand! Very cool. I have an 1879 silver dollar--in quite good condition I'd say. Although, an expert may say otherwise. Like I said, I'm really an amateur.

If your husband has anything else interesting to add, I'd love to hear it. This is a fun topic.

Me too. Mine even has the Certificate of Authenticity!

I'm pretty up to date, but I'm still missing the Michigan quarter, but I do have the Florida one that came after it. :D

My mother has quite a few silver dollars, and some Canadian coins from when she went to Prince Edward Island a few years ago.

My brother in law collects some coins, too, but I don't have a running inventory of what he has yet.

Yes, I have the Whitman blue collection books filled with Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Pennies from 1909 to 2021. a few gaps here and there. I did hear yr 2025 will be the last year for new pennies. I have a few Morgan dollars from late 1880's, a few buffalo nickels, odd ball dimes of earlier years.

I do wonder if the coins are more expensive to make, why are they still or are they, making new backs for quarters. The last 25 years it seems a new quarter has a new back each year.
