Who agrees. Even though I like David Spade it's not as good without Paul. Especially Goodbye that was soooooooooooo boring that should have been the last ep.

Even though " John Ritter " is no longer part of the show and part of our lives, it's still a good show. As long as the show keeps going, I will continue watching it.

Ever since he died, one of my friends can't watch the show anymore because it's not the same without him which I understand but I can continue watching it unless it's cancelled.

It's not the same without him, but the show is still very funny and entertaining and as long as it's on, I'll watch. Although I was iffy at the time, I have to say James Garner and David Spade are welcome additions. They are hilarious.

I don't think it sunk...the reason is probably because most people aren't used to Katey being the main star.

I still watch it and it remains as one of my favorites. I dont think it got worse after he died, because it's still good. It just lost most of its "funny-ness". Some of the stuff is still funny but nothing beats John Ritter! But I really like how the actors put their own style into how the characters would deal with it which also helped. So with that said, no I don't think it sunk, it just changed.

Eventhough Katey Sagal has top-billing, the show doesn't really have a main star anymore, the show works as an ensemble now.

Has the show gone down hill since John died? Yes, in some ways it has. Sadly, John can no longer display his magic, so the show kind of gotten boring because of it.

I started watching it when David spade joined...And he's the star of the show IMO...

Practically all of the cast are the main focus...but as Katey mentioned in a interview,It's true. Now, we are showing people how to get over tragedy and that you will laugh again. It's a whole different thing now. But I don't feel like the star. I sort of consider the family to be the star of the show.

If Katey Sagal feels this way, she should not ask for topbilling, but instead ask that everybody's names be in alphabetical order in the beginning credits of the show.

The fact that ABC is sticking w/ "8 Simple Rules..." rather than retire it out of respect for John Ritter really proves how sorry and desperate of a network they are at this point. Regardless of how much longer this show lasts, it will be forever recognized first & foremost as "that sitcom John Ritter starred on shortly before he suddenly died." Frankly, the bottom-line is that ABC is concerned the most about the potential syndication money (a la "Chico & the Man").

Personally, the show should be renamed "The Hennessy Clan" (kind of like when "Valerie/Valerie's Family" w/ Valerie Harper was renamed "The Hogan Family" when Sandy Duncan replaced her). Assuming that the show makes it into syndication, the Ritter-episodes should be left out. I say this because personally, it's going to be awfully painful to have to relive those episodes one-by-one knowing in the back of our minds that Ritter & his character are eventually going to die. The Ritter episodes should be sent to DVD w/ the profits going to charity.

When I first saw promos for the "Goodbye" special episode, I was sick how they waisted no time on capitalizing poor John Ritter's death! The network only sees $$$$. :mad:

I think they should release 8SR on DVD...I missed the beginning of second season and would like to see the show on DVD.

I stopped watching it, because the only reason I started watching the show was because of John Ritter. The show was okay with John Ritter on it, but now that he is gone, it just isn't the same anymore. I have a feeling it might even get canceled soon.

The show is fine and all, but it just feels icky.

I dont think they should axe it...John would have wanted his friends to continue what they love.Plus its the only really decent show out there.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way. When I watched the episode' Good bye', I was in tears the whole time. It's just not the same without John. I tried one time after the 'Good Bye' episode I tried to watch, and I just couldn't do it , so I tuned it off. John was the show. Even though that he might have wanted them to go on,(like Ms. Sagal said), the ratings don't lie. I think that John might have had a lot of influence over the storylines of the show, not to mention he was practically in every scene(the show was mainly based around him). :jack

I disagree with that. I feel that if '8 Simple Rules' goes into syndication, they should allow the episodes with John Ritter. After all, if they eliminate them, that would be saying that John Ritter was never part of the show when he was. It doesn't make any sence to have a show in syndication if they don't start from the 1st season, than why bother airing a show in syndiction at all?

I believe that John was a great asset to the show,but after he died,it was like a big chunk missing in the show,but I kept on tuning in,and found that Katey's talent was equal to that,along with David Spade. He might have had influence over the storylines,but each cast member has had some influence,too. I think the ratings are doing fine for being w/o John,even though there were 7's and 8's when he was still alive. I really want a 4th season,so that way I can tape 1st season when it comes into syndication.
