View Full Version : The Anniversary of Nicole Simpson/Ron Goldman's Murder/ OJ Simpson
Nanny Fine 06-13-2004, 08:36 PM Can you believe it's been 10 years? Which jury delivered the REAL verdict, the criminal or the civil? What were you doing 10 years ago when this happened?
Will OJ ever be branded as anything other than a killer who got away with it?
Wow, ten years.
What a crazy summer that was.
Mijada 06-13-2004, 08:43 PM I was in my room in front of the TV when the police chase interrupted the program I was watching. I always have believed that he had something to do with it. If he didn't commit the murder himself he knows who did. JMO
Brian 06-13-2004, 08:43 PM I was in third grade when this happened. I never followed it then. A classmate of mine asked me if I thought OJ was innocent and I didn't know what to say because I knew nothing about it.
It wasn't until my second semester of college when I learned more about the case. My professor knew everything about it. The DA botched the case and OJ's "Million Dollar Defense" capitalized on it. It's unfortunate.
When the instructor said that if he was on the jury, he would have to put in a vote of "not guilty" I didn't understand why if he believed he was not innocent. It turns out that jurors can't vote from the heart. They have to vote based on what was presented to them in the trial, not on what they personally believe. Otherwise there would be many convictions. It's called "jury nullification."
I can't say for sure whether he is guilty or not. If he did commit those murders, then I would hold the DA and the prosecution just as accountable for his acquittal.
PZelda 06-13-2004, 08:45 PM I had just finished 3rd grade -- I didn't watch much TV that summer, I don't think.
Chad22 06-13-2004, 08:47 PM Man...I Was Only Like 7 Or 8 When all this went on, But i remember it so well. It seemed like it went on forever and was on every channel.
I Always thought OJ Was Innocent....But i think i was kind of Biased since i loved him in the Naked Gun Movies.

duluthduke 06-13-2004, 10:43 PM You may be a "moderator" but you are not God! How do you know he is a double murderer?
There was certainly evidence that pointed to him, but also much that did not! As a person who watched almost all of the trial, I feel the prosecution did not make their case, and that the jury made the proper verdict!

Although I'm a moderator, I have every right to my opinion, so don't give me that moderator crap.
Evidence that pointed to him? I'll say. Both victim's blood in and on the double murder's car and house.....his blood at the murder scene. Yeah, I'm way off.
Here's a recent thread with 3 pages of people trashing the double murderer. I suppose they think they're God too.

I think he's guilty. I've always thought he was guilty. Just my opinion.
I was 22 years old. 10 years ago on the day of the murders I found out I was pregnant. I'll never forget it.
I won't forget watching the car chase on TV either. What a weird mixed emotion day I had then.
duluthduke 06-13-2004, 11:01 PM You say "God Bless America." Well our God-given American system of justice worked for a change. The jury spoke and rendered a just verdict. While playing God and judging him, it is interesting that you apparently know more about the case than the jurors did!

Wow, were you on the jury?
The OJ case isn't the only case in history where people don't agree with the verdict.
I dont agree. Well I do with the civil one. I wasn't on the jury, it's just what I believe.
Janice can believe whatever she wants and state so in her opinion. it doesn't change the verdict from years ago.

The justice system failed miserably, and most everyone knows it and why.
The civil trial didn't fail though as they delivered the right verdict. Every dime the double murder makes for the rest of his life goes to the Brown and Goldman families. Not to worry though because he'll never make it into the entertainment mainstream. We won't be seeing him on Leno or Letterman anytime soon. He's a pariah.
God Bless America....except the double murderer. God will take care of his ass in due time.

I certainly respect your right to your opinion, and like I said in my first response to you, some evidence pointed his way. What I disagree with strongly is your attitude that you seem to know what happened. While sticking to my opinion and believing he is not guilty, I at least admit I don't know, and that I could be wrong!

Janice the Goldman's have said they have not ever received so much as a penny from Simpson. They expect they never will. They can't tough the $25,000 he gets a month from his pension from football (I think?), they cant' touch his house, etc.
They expect they'll never get anything.

duluthduke 06-13-2004, 11:34 PM Also, I'm curious about how much of the trial all of you who assume he is guilty actually watched? Or did you form your opinions about the case by watching biased "reporters" like Geraldo Rivera?

So despite all the evidence to the contrary, you still believe him innocent? WOW is all I can say
TVJunkie101 06-13-2004, 11:36 PM I was fairly young when it happened, but I remember it so well.
My dad took me to my older brother's house (my dad is an older guy and has much older kids besides myself. I have 3 older siblings who have a different mother than myself) and I remember it being on tv, the car chase. I thought it was hilarious and so stupid at the time (the car chase, not the case).
I'm not passing judgement, but the man just always makes me uneasy when I see him in interviews or anything. Seeing the Today show segment last week Katie Couric did with OJ made me uneasy too, but I have to admit he loves his kids.
After thinking about it for a few minutes, I have to say I think the man is guilty. I have for 10 years and I still do. And it's true, we have no idea what REALLY happened, but we are all capable of forming our own opinions, certainly not based on tv personalities. I know it wasn't directed at me, but still... We are all entitled to our own opinions.

Wait, is that a slam against GERALDO?
Like I'm not intelligent enough to have made my own decisions based on what I saw and read.
Since I think he's guilty I have a Geraldo or Jerry Springer mentality?
Nice.
duluthduke 06-13-2004, 11:46 PM The only way a person could properly make up their mind is by actually watching the trial testimony, not reading about it (unless it was a transcript) or hearing analysis by pundits and "experts."
I ask again, how much of the actual testimony did all of you watch? I still have all the key parts on tape. And as we say here in MN "you bet" I'm slamming Geraldo Rivera! His was about the most biased of all the reporting done on the case!

I wasn't serious about "slamming" him.

I realize that, and that's the beauty of it all. The double murderer has said publicly that he'll never work because he would have to pay the families of his victims. Nobody wants him anyway. He couldn't get a job at McDonald's, and if he did, they would sure keep him away from the knives.
For a guy who is used to living large, 25 grand a month isn't much at all.
I read that Ron Goldman's father, Fred, never refers to him by his name....only as "the killer".

I think on Dateline tonight he referred to him as "monster." Or it may have been Ron's sister who said that. Anyhow, certainly another befitting name.
Anyone who thinks O.J. is innocent really has gravel for brains. *Raises Hand* I'm another person who followed the case closely, and my conclusion was not tainted by any "biased reports." And that is all I shall say because discussing the case in detail in this thread is futile.

That verdict was jury nullification on the part of the jurors, most likely in retaliation for the cops beating the rap at the Rodney King trial. Simply because 12 pinheads let this double murderer walk does not mean others with common sense have to accept it.
I kept an open mind during the trial. Once the blood evidence was presented, that was it for me. His victim's blood was in and on his car and house, and his bloody print was at the crime scene. There's no other explanation for that, unless one buys into the conspiracy frameup fairytale. I heard once that if that were true, 70+ people would have had to be involved....from detectives, lab workers, forensic teams, etc.
It's such a no brainer.
Janice 06-14-2004, 01:16 AM OJ, can you repeat that again please. How many people did you slaughter?
duluthduke 06-14-2004, 01:37 AM I am not "above" anyone! I just admit that I have a fallible opinion(which I truly believe is correct) and all of you feel you are somehow infallible and KNOW what happened!

What's with this "abide by" the jury's verdict business? It's not like we're taking the law into our own hands and tracking O.J. down to shoot him or something drastic like that. (You know how there have been people before who didn't see justice done in the courtroom, so they sought personal revenge?) We're just having our opinions about the case. If we believed O.J. was guilty before, should we just, poof, think he's not guilty because the jury thought so? We can think they made a mistake. Mistakes happen in courts all the time. Innocent people have been known to go to jail, and guilty people have been known to walk free.
duluthduke 06-14-2004, 04:51 PM This "abide by the jury's verdict business" is just that, you people should accept it and go on with your lives.
If he had been convicted, and those of us who believe he is not guilty would complain, you would be saying exactly the same thing I am now!!

Oh, like the verdict is really "holding up" my life! You word things perculiarly. To tell us that we should "accept it and go on with [our] lives" suggests it's deeply affecting us to the point where we are distracted. Of course that's not true. Uh, we can still have discussions about the case though. It's been 10 years since the murders, and news programs are discussing it again. Should they not have? Should they just ignore it, and move on? Should we all just "go on" and never dicuss any history EVER AGAIN?
We aren't dwelling on the verdict. We know it can never be changed and O.J. can never be tried again. But just as you go on believing he is innocent, we go on believing he is guilty. Discussions are perfectly acceptable. I'm not even dicussing the details of the case with you, because as I said before, "it's futile." All I wanted to discuss here, is that it's perfectly fine to talk about history, and to disagree with verdicts from the past.
And actually, if O.J. had been convicted and you disbelievers complained about the verdict, I would not say, "go on." I'd actually say, the same thing I say to you all NOW: "Gravel for brains."

You're trying to throw in our face that we should accept the verdict and move on, because hell, you did it! You accept the verdict. The law has spoken. Why don't the rest of us listen?! Blah, blah, blah.
What do you want us to say? "We accept the verdict?" OKAY! I accept the verdict! Those 12 jurors found him 'not guilty' alright. Yes siree. O.J.'s walking free... I accept that too! Doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Don't worry. It doesn't affect my life. It doesn't change my life. The legal system isn't perfect and now I believe a killer is walking free. That is all.
You probably will respond to this, and you know what? I'm going to let you have the "last word" because this topic has become futile too. I'm done.
Dean Winchester 06-14-2004, 07:17 PM it is so funny how much different whites and blacks are on this topic.
Once I popped over to an AOL message board that was predominantly (75-80%) African-American, and they were discussing this topic, and every single AA poster in there jumped to OJ's defense, claiming all the hate for him is "white jealousy". Only one person actually believed OJ was innocent, but she said "Nicole and Ron deserved it for being white". Why is it that some African-American people are so starstruck bias that because OJ was at one time a "role model" for kids, that automatically he doesn't possess the capability to kill? OJ being guilty has absolutely nothing to do with racism, because the same people who are against OJ are also against Scott Peterson, so what is the excuse?
If OJ killed their sister or mom instead, would they be so damn defensive of the man?
