Good morning! Aw great, everything's back to normal. I'm watching the third CD in season 3 :D.

Chambers
05-28-2004, 10:22 AM
Haha - I just noticed something. In the season 3 episode, "If Ever I Would Leave You," you can tell Shelley is pregnant. That episode aired on February 1985, and she had her daughter late in March. I guess that's why they put her in all those bulky sweaters and got her to stand behind the bar a lot.

Brian Damage
05-28-2004, 10:26 AM
Isn't that when they had her stuck in the venting system?

Chambers
05-28-2004, 10:36 AM
The venting system was "The Mail Goes To Jail" - a little earlier. But you're right in that the pregnancy was probably apparent then too - you couldn't see her whole body in that one. Ah, now it's all making sense - the fact that she doesn't appear in the last couple of episodes of the season (except for the last one).

If Shelley hadn't been pregnant, they wouldve never had her and Frasier go off to Europe.
I read somewhere that they thought it would be easier to hid her on a bench than working at a bar.

Chambers

yes, barwars - i thought of that immediately after i wrote that. it's crazy - i found that loads of lines in my fanfiction were subconsciously based on actual lines from the show. like the carla shot: "carla there's a sink in the lady's room that needs scouring. why don't you go stick your head in it?" - I later found out that there was an almost identical joke in season one (i believe) that had those same elements: sink, scour and carla's hair. i think i've watched cheers for so long that these lines have become part of my natural speech

I don't think Cheers could ever take over someone's life. Unless of course they spend every waking hour watching it, or talking about it -- especially with people that don't care at all.

Back to that "you know you're obsessed if..." thing.

This was me today trying to write a formal letter thanking a foundation:

"How would Frasier or Diane write this letter? Hmmm....let me insert some stuffy, pretentious quotation after every empty adulation."

Thankfully, I didn't go there.

And, mind you, there aren't any channels airing Cheers where I am. I have to depend on my DVDs. Imagine if I had been there to watch that marathon.....then I may actually have written that letter differently ;).
Nah I wouldn't - I am, after all, sane. Nobody try to argue with that.

And I think I may actually get to watch the Frasier finale this week :). FINALLY.

I HATE studying for finals... they're next week, but my mom's like "Start studying now." Why do we even have to have finals?? Oh well... at least it means no more work for the last week of school.

12 days left... these days are always the longest, but I don't mind. Just as long as I get out of my living hell. Try going to school with about 80% being immature brats, another 10% being totally oblivious to everything, leaving only another 10% of being the only sane ones. Ugh... Nice signature, Lauren.

I just watched "Diane's Allergy" for the first time, and its one of the best episodes of the season.
But it screws up the Cheers/Frasier continuity.

Here, Frasier obviously loves his dog, but on Frasier -- he hates all pets, especially Eddie, the greatest animal of all time.

you're all looking at a wings fan in training.

a little while ago, i implied that watching wings was a waste of time and made many of you gasp. well, one of my many faults is basing my opinions on second-hand judgements. i had only watched one or two episodes, was surrounded by people who said the show was bad, and had read several articles about how wings was too similar to cheers. i should have known better than to listen to those people - they also didn't like cheers! GASP!

fortunately, now i actually have the opportunity of watching wings everyday and can see for myself that it's a very good show.

wings and cheers are quite similar, though. both are set in a public place. both have an intelligent blond character who want to do something loftier than just waiting tables (Helen, a cellist/ Diane, a writer). well...that's about all i can think of....
anyway, i'll be dropping by the wings board when i'm ready :)

Great article!!

Notes. The cast of Cheers turned up, in character, in Mickey's 60th Birthday, an hour-length Walt Disney TV tribute to its famous mouse, which combined animation with specially shot live action sequences. Screened in the USA by NBC on 3 November 1988, the programme was first shown in Britain by ITV some eight weeks later, on Christmas Day morning, under the title Mickey Mouse At 60.

DAMN I WANT THAT!!
That would be the best DVD special feature, EVER!!

If Im reading this right.... Cliff finally got his trip to Disney World he always wanted.
(I never understood why he didn't go during his infamous "Season 3 Florida Trip")

Chambers

I would actually pay good money for a separate DVD filled with special features: interviews, bloopers, appearances, clip shows, whatever - just one giant documentary on Cheers. And that Mickey Mouse special better be in there too!

Heads up for Law & Order and/or Frasier fans (Im that latter, but Im sure to like L&O:TBJ with this news)....

LAW & ORDER: TRIAL BY JURY (NBC) - Candice Bergen ("Murphy Brown") and John Mahoney ("Frasier") are in talks to join the rotating ensemble cast of the upcoming "Law & Order" spin-off. "Law & Order" veterans Carey Lowell and Jerry Orbach are also in talks to appear in the new series however no firm casting deals have been made for the project. Lowell and Orbach would of course reprise their roles of Jamie Ross and Lennie Briscoe while Bergen and Mahoney are reportedly up to play judges on the series.

Whatever. Its a good film. Albeit a little creepy. I kind of had a delayed reaction. When I went to see the movie with my friends when it was in the theatres, my friends were all grossed out just by the premise, and about...3/4 of the way through the movie, I was like..."wait...ew!!! that's his stepmom!!"

I always thought that since the late John Ritter (from the tv show 8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter) played the Dad, it should have been called "8 Simple Rules For :censored: ing My Teenage Son"

but thats just me...

 That was a creepy movie at first. But since there was a point behind it all, I liked it. John Ritter was great in that role - though it was a rather small part.

I didn't realize Kirstie's name was Diane Burrows! That Olsen twin movie was definitely watchable...even though it was a "Parent Trap" rip-off.

Yea I do know. By the way, I'm not really a Mary Kate and Ashley fan either; that's basically the only movie with them that I like. But it is a little similar to TPT- two identical strangers meet (which is highly unlikely to happen), and get their "caretakers" together. And, of course, the dad get engaged while the daughter is away. And the fiancee is a stupid preppy witch.

I was such a snot about music when I was a kid. I only liked classical - of course, my music instructors had a hand in creating the monster I was. Anywho, I hated any type of contemporary music. But then I wised up when I reached 15 or so. So now I like a lot of different types of music - I don't base my opinion on genre anymore. I still like classical, but I've learned to love jazz, bossa nova, rock...even pop and a bunch of other stuff! Right now I really like Outkast and I've started to like Missy Elliot (mostly I find her stuff interesting - I don't consider it "easy listening" hehe). Point is - I'm open to anything when it comes to music..
...except for country and anything that's only meant to be played at a dance club. I do have limits.

ah...you sound like me, both with the classical thing (i am still awesome at identifying different pieces, their composers, and which movement it is), which was also exacerbated by my music instructors (piano, cello, and flute), and my father.
and with the x-files thing and being ashamed at being a fan what with the terrible-ness of the last few seasons. I think most people were pretty astonished at how horrible it became so quickly.

*sigh*

fortunately i have the first seven seasons on dvd, and i can ignore all the bad episodes.

heh. yeah. 3 instruments, my father pushed for us girls to lead a "cultured" existence. I'm still trying to escape that to some extent, so if I ever come off as rather arrogant, slap me. I probably deserved it.

I did enjoy playing the cello though. I think that its an incredibly sexy instrument.

I don't play much anymore, either. Which is a shame I guess...but not so much that I'm willing to take the time to start up again.

OMG my last day of school did NOT seem like a last day... that's one problem with high school... you have finals during your last week, and you don't really get to hang out with your friends like you're used to... I hate it!

Congratulations to everybody who started summer vacation.

I'm taking back what I said before. I WILL buy the Rebecca years DVDs. I'll stop being so miserly. Hopefully by the time they're out, I'll have gotten a real job and won't have to worry about how much I spend.

I don't play much anymore, either. Which is a shame I guess...but not so much that I'm willing to take the time to start up again.

Since we're talking about musical talents, I too am one of those!

I play - Flute, clarinet, oboe, piccolo, saxophone, E flat clarinet, and piano! I was also in chorus, but enjoyed band more. Oboe is my major!:) - I happen to like classical music too. So much fun to play!

Well, it's a very long story, so I'll try to leave it short. In the first semester of school, I was failing math, and then failed:mad: . I was without the net for over a month to study math for this semester. Along with hockey that ran from september to early may that I had to go to 5 times a week at night so I had no time to go on then. Last but not least, our computer was in the shop in early November for a couple weeks, so I couldn't log in right away. I forgot my password here and had my pw sent to my old email so I couldn't get it. Eventually when summer came, (last week) I was able to fix things...and I'm back.:D

You won't be disappointed when you watch those Rebecca years. I used to think the same way about Rebecca. I'd turn to Cheers and be like, "Aww. No Diane," so I'd turn it off. Thank goodness I turned on Cheers to the DIANE YEARS back in February/March because I wouldn't be posting here right now. I'd probably just be miserable. *sigh* Rebecca is funny!:D I love when she cries. It cracks me up! OH and thanks to Lilith, too! Muahahaha!!! - I got hooked on Lilith after watching "Abnormal Psychology" and "Dinner At Eight-ish"

Over & Out!

My flight to new york leaves at 10.55 tonight (hardly feels right saying "tonight," being that its 12.10am right now) and I see Bebe's show tomorrow.
Tomorrow...really?

47 hours to be precise.
Anyway, I have no idea what internet capabilities I'll have where I'm staying, but I might be gone until I reach London on the 26th.
Just so you all don't think that I've gone off and died...

Its at this place where they print logos and numbers on t-shirts and jerseys.
I have to clean screens that they use for big orders half the time, and for the other half -- smaller orders that i have to steam press the numbers/names on.
And then for the third half (hey, its a long day) I have to take the shirts (or pants, whatever) and split them up my size and stuff like that. Then box them. Then get bored out of my mind (wait, that MAY come earlier).

But, I want the money.
Because after I get the laptop, Im saving up for my first car.

I recently received two pieces of good news:

1) I found there was a glitch in my blood test, so I don't have unbelievably high cholesterol. Woohoo!

2) Sigmund (my dachshund) is now a father. We may be adopting one of the puppies. I want to call him Jung or Pavlov (after Frasier's puppy).

Aw, that's so cool! Just don't tell my mother about the dachshunds... she'll probably steal one from you! She grew up with dachshunds and becomes incredibly attached when one is mentioned, or if she sees one... it's crazy.
