You should like name it a drink name or something. Like tequialla or maybe Norm or something.
Chambers 07-04-2004, 03:38 PM Norm would be a great name. I also thought of Frasier - but then I realized the name would have to be pronounced in a couple of Latin languages... So I chose Othello but will pronounce it the Latin way ("t" instead of "th"). One month until the puppy gets here!!
Pirate Jenny 07-05-2004, 04:17 PM im back guys!!
from england.
just a few weeks early...
but, whatever...I'm back!
CliffClavin 07-05-2004, 04:18 PM I became a mosquito fest last night!
Chambers 07-05-2004, 04:19 PM Welcome back! How was it?
Pirate Jenny 07-06-2004, 02:39 AM it was...well.
I was going to say that it was great, but that would be lying.
i love england...especially London, but I didn't have fun
I was getting really depressed and not eating and not leaving my bed. For various reasons.
and I just decided...this trip is costing a lot of money, I'm not having fun, I'm falling into another depression (and I didn't want to go down that road again...and I was losing a lot of weight...which I can't afford.
So I thought it would be a good idea to get home...closer to people I know. There's something very isolating about being in an entire country in which you no no one...being twice as far away from home as you are to Cairo...
Plus, my flat was a pit. And me and less-than-sterile environments just don't mix. I can't live in yucky quarters. But I shall refrain from giving that...place another moment of thought. Ugh.
so...here I am. Back home.
But...I did get out and have fun, once I knew that I was going back. I saw all the usual London-y things. And I took a pilgrimage to Virginia Woolf's house in Sussex. (just so you know...Virginia Woolf is one of my *things*. Like Lilith (the midrashic character, you know, not from Cheers), a subject about which I would be totally THRILLED to write a paper). So that was a big deal for me.
It was so great....
but...most importantly...I got to New York. God...I love that town. And I saw Here Lies Jenny. man...I could gush about that forEVER
so great.
SO damn great.
ok...so thats how it was.
don't you wish that I had just said "it was great!" and left it at that?
Chambers 07-06-2004, 09:19 AM Haha, well at least you know yourself well enough to get out of there. I know how depressing London can be - especially when you don't have family around. And about being in another continent on your own where you don't know anybody - I have to do that for college arg.
Moondance 07-06-2004, 01:47 PM Hey! I'd love to go to London someday:) I've never left the US before...:(

tiff7 07-06-2004, 03:11 PM Gr8! I had a wonderful 4th of July-how about you? I watched the foreworks on tv cause it was really hot outside & my sister is due 2 have a baby in December & my brother-in-law & niece don't really care 4 fireworks. I have watched the fireworks on tv since 2002. (2001 was spent @ Disney World-which was WONDERFUL but soooo hot!) :)
Tiff7
CliffClavin 07-06-2004, 03:14 PM I got bored a lil' bit at my uncle's house where are 4th party was & I went in only for a white to watch Groundhog Day & X2:X-Men United. After that I went outside got stuffed with food and drink & socialized.I also watched come in out to go to the bathroom & get things out of the fridge.A while after that we lit fireworks in the backyard it was pretty damn cool.Later that night at about 12:22 am my dad & I dropped off his drunk friend .Then rode about 30 miles home & then I stayed to about an hour and half or so & watched There's Something About Mary. Then I went to bed pretty tired & dreamt that I was Bill in the Bill & Ted movies.WOW!
Moondance 07-06-2004, 03:22 PM My July fourth was fun, really. I ended up watching about seven episodes of Frasier, Outrageous Fortune, and by 8p - it rained! I never knew standing out in the rain, watching fireworks, could be so refreshing - yes, I got me hair wet! LOL It felt great!
Feen
tiff7 07-06-2004, 03:26 PM i don't blame you Feen-getting yourself wet when it's hot feels gr8-i do it at Disney World all the time! You should all watch the fireworks on tv on the 4th of July every year! :)

I agree...I was in England in March and I visited London for 10 days then...I had fun and didn't have fun at the same time, you know what I'm saying? I didn't ACTUALLY live there, but yeah..I was there for almost 2 weeks. England actually depressed me in a way...It wasn't the fact that I was roughly 6,000-8,000 miles from home, but the fact that EVERYTHING IN ENGLAND IS SOOOOOOOO SMALL AND SO CRAMPED. That just depresses me. EVERYthing in London is soooo small...it's not funny. When I left Gatwick Airport on the first day and headed back to Gatwick on my last day, we took the train at Victoria Station...It was just, wow. The flats are FREAKISHLY TINY. I keep thinking to myself...How do you guys in England handle it? I have a friend that used to live here and she met this guy (they're married now) when he was studying aboard here in the states...the guy that was studying aboard was from Portsmouth, England, so his whole family was back there...My friend made a huge decision and moved to England so she could be with him and his family...they got married @ St. Paul's Cathederal (sp?). It's REALLY something to just up and move to England from ND..
Now, don't get me wrong...I liked my hotel, Days Inn Westminster...It was cool because it was only 6 blocks from Victoria Station...I saw a few things I enjoyed, but the trip depressed me in a way...Plus I couldn't stand the food. Sure, the food was OK, but I ate a LOT of horrible-tasting foods. :barf: Add on to that, we were eating out 3 times a day for 10 days....so we ate out a total of 30 times during the trip. DOUBLE YUCK. I never wanted to see restaurant food again after I finally came home!
I know what you mean about a lot of places not being sterile...I noticed that walking all over London and passing all those flats that looked run-down and dirty. :(
OMG....Money. Don't get me started. £...:faint: It's practically highway robbery just shopping in England...While I was in England, I would check into Sitcoms Online every night (appx. 10 to 11 at night there, when it was 4 to 5pm back here at home) and check on the posts...I would often stay on for about 1/2 hour at a time...and it cost me £1/10 min to use the hotel computer. ARGH. So most nights, I spent between £3 to £5 to use the computer...that got expensive really quickly...that's between $6 to $10 just to use the computer. MAN.
Just don't get me wrong about London...I enjoyed being there...But that's it. London is a place I enjoy visiting -- I wouldn't live there, but I would definitely want to visit London again. :)
(If anybody here is from England, don't hurt me! I'm just telling it from a rural girl's point of view! ;))

I was lucky, though. Once you know where to go, which restaurants to avoid, how to manage your money etc etc, it's really a wonderful place - especially the culture. The free museums, the free chamber concerts - you just gotta know where to go.
Also, you can't let the weather get you down. Well, easier said than done. There was one summer (the only time when the sun actually shines in that country) when my bedroom window was actually boarded up because they were renovating the outside of the building. I was so depressed...no sunlight at all...and then came september when the boards came down...and the sun went away for the rest of the year :(.

The name for Oz in the "Wizard of Oz" was thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence "Oz."

Its at this place where they print logos and numbers on t-shirts and jerseys.
I have to clean screens that they use for big orders half the time, and for the other half -- smaller orders that i have to steam press the numbers/names on.
And then for the third half (hey, its a long day) I have to take the shirts (or pants, whatever) and split them up my size and stuff like that. Then box them. Then get bored out of my mind (wait, that MAY come earlier).
Not sure if you saw this, it was a couple weeks ago on this thread.

Ok full story - once and for all. My dad's job has him move every few years. My family is Brazilian (meaning we speak Portuguese - NOT Spanish), but because of the moving around, I've had to grow up in some different places. Now I'm going into my third year at college in the U.S., while my parents recently moved to Uruguay. So now I spend my vacations down here (where it's freakin' cold now!) and the rest of the year in college.
Brian Damage 07-18-2004, 11:41 AM That sounds very fascinating. What other countries have you been to?

I'll bet that's really lonely. I don't think that I could do that...go to school in a completely different continent from everyone I knew. I thought I could, but then I found out I couldn't. At least not at this point in my life.
So I'm impressed with what you're doing, but I bet it must suck sometimes, too!

Haha not exactly - my parents have only been in this country for a year. I stay in a guest room in a new house in a city where I don't know anybody. Hence, my newfound internet addiction hehe. But it's not bad either, because I need my privacy and this place gives me a lot of that. So in the end, it's pretty good - especially now that we're getting the new puppy in a couple of weeks :)!

CliffClavin 07-20-2004, 09:49 PM On TVLand Tonight :
268 - Woody Gets an Election In an attempt to prove that Boston voters are mindless sheep satisfied by empty rhetoric, Frasier decides to conduct a little experiment. He persuades Woody to get on the ballot for a city council seat, and sure enough, the naïve political newcomer soon begins to gain popularity with both the press and the public. As he does, Frasier realizes the possible damage that could be done if Woody were to actually win the election. Frightened for the future of Boston and possibly the world, Frasier convinces Woody to withdraw from the race at the public debate that is being held the night before. Woody makes a heartfelt speech that moves him and nearly everyone else to tears - an emotional moment culminates when Kelly joins him on stage and announces that she is pregnant. The touching scene ignites the voters of Boston to fully support him and, much to Frasier's chagrin, Woody wins the election in a major upset.
269 - It's Lonely on the Top Due to Woody's new position as a city councilman, Sam and Rebecca promote Carla to bartender. Unfortunately, Carla's first night behind the bar is a bust - her explosive drinks give the gang painful hangovers and black out their memories for most of the previous evening. Cliff and Norm find receipts for expensive tattoos, and realize they accidentally mixed up the messages, with Cliff's butt bearing Norm's ode to Vera and Norm's rear and wearing Cliff's declaration of loyalty to the postal service. Frasier spent his evening almost drowning in his toilet. But most humiliated of the gang is Carla, who secretly admits to Sam that she spent a night of wild and crazy debauchery with Paul. To make her feel better about her own shortcomings, Sam decides to reveal his biggest secret and removes his toupee from his surprisingly baldhead. Carla is shocked that Sammy's legendary hair is nothing but a rug. Meanwhile, the waitress Rebecca hired to replace Carla turns out to be even more clumsy than the gang ever imagined.

However, when I was at the Cheers Bar in London, I didn't order a drink, and, as long as you don't sit *at* the bar, you should be able to just order food or something. I was able to get a coke and some buffalo wings, which led me to the conclusion that Brits can't make Buffalo Wings.

Why would anyone watch a show for the beverages?
"Look, everyone, they're drinking milk! I love milk!"
BebeSternin 07-22-2004, 11:07 PM *Blinks* You mean..you guys don't watch Cheers for the beer?

I'm sure there's some underaged Norm look-alike out there who watches so he can learn the art of drinking beer from the master himself. ;)

I'm with you on this! I hardly ever drink coffee (but when I do, I put an insane amount of sugar into it) - In my life, I've only had one margarita (but I loved it) Other than that drink, the rest are nasty to me, (especially BEER - never had it and NEVER will try it!)
I also detest smoking! I'm allergic to it and it makes me sick to smell it!

Speaking of - do you know what I think is unfair? Wendy's is now giving you a choice of milk, chocolate milk or soft drink with your kid's meal! (WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THAT BACK WHEN I WAS GETTING THEM????!!! Geez!) - OK, rant over!
Feen (who LOVES chocolate milk forever!!!!)

And actually, strike that thing I said about alcohol. I discovered today that I do like wine - but only if it's very good wine. Otherwise it just tastes like crap.
barwars 07-23-2004, 03:46 PM What I dont understand about the new Wendy's kids meals is that there is not a kid on earth who would rather eat oranges than french fries.
The chocolate milk -- completely understandable.
White Milk -- borderline weird.
Oranges -- bad business move.
Chambers 07-23-2004, 03:55 PM Add "I hate chocolate milk" to my list.
And that orange is yet another vain attempt to make fast food healthy. They're going to end up deep-frying that orange and covering it with caramel.
CliffClavin 07-23-2004, 04:03 PM Wow, Good idea Chambers i'll try that with my oranges here.
