We all have our favorites, but what is everyone's least favorite Cheers season?

While I like the whole series, I'd have to say season seven was my least favorite.

Season 10 (well the first half)

I never was a fan of Rebecca, and having her and Sam trying to have a baby together took up far too many episodes (especially considering they're my 2 least favorite characters)

But the second half of the season was great with One Hugs The Other Doesn't (Nanny G) and An Old Fashioned Wedding Parts 1&2 (as slapstick as the series ever got)

Season 6 - 11. I am a Diane fan. I respected Rebecca at first, she was a strong business woman. Then next thing I know all she could do was gripe. I am going to stop buying Cheers after season 5.

I'm the exact opposite, I am going to start buying them after season 5. I am a huge Rebecca fan over Diane.

I like the Rebecca years a lot, but I do agree that storyline was not the best. It was a really dumb idea and it did take too long to disappear.

Im buying EVERY season.
No matter what.

And Im sure every season will be released.
If im not mistaken, no show has ever released "The Complete Third Season" and suddenly stop.

:yeahthat:

Season 3 is one of my least favorite seasons, but I bought it anyway, because it's still good. Let's remember that the worst seasons of Cheers were better than anything on TV today.

I didn't like the whole baby idea either. 10 was my least favorite.
And since people were talking about it I'm gunna buy every season. I like the show for the ensamble cast not just for one particular person so I'm buying them all.

You make a good point. The show was only as good as the ensemble cast. But I think the chemistry within the cast significantly changed after Diane left - her character was central to the show (though her character did become kind of overbearing in her later seasons - I don't know how much longer it could have gone). The point is that Diane was the perfect foil for Sam - Rebecca, not so much. Diane could really make Sam think, and nobody could annoy the hell out of him like she could. Rebecca also didn't challenge his playboy behavior like Diane did. It was even different with Carla, since she and Rebecca actually became pretty close. So I don't watch it just because of Diane. Actually, as I pointed out somewhere else, the brilliance of Diane's character mostly depended on the reactions of the other characters - it obviously wasn't only about her. I just enjoy the ensemble cast better when Diane was part of the equation. It got even better when Frasier joined. Plus, I don't know how much more I can spend on these dvds!!

I'm opposite I think the writing and the cast chemestry went up once Rebecca came on. When Diane was on it seemed too much like she was the absolute star of the show. Like you said she seemed overbearing. When Rebecca came on it seemed more like each member of the cast mattered a lot more.

About the money I'm broke too don't worry. I don't know where I'm gunna get the money!

I did not like 6-11 seasons.

I don't dislike any seasons, but I didn't like that whole Sam/Rebecca baby thing either. Ugh.

On the subject of buying DVDs I'm buying every season. After Diane left Cheers didn't lose its edge, and it stayed witty and funny. Thats what I watch Cheers for... the comedy. And that never got old, no matter what cast changes were made.

I completely agree with that. Although Rebecca was a good character and a nice change of pace, she didn't bring as much to the table as Diane did, IMO. ohno:

Ya know, I've always thought that a really good but short-lasting show is better than a mediocre long-lasting show. That's why I always wonder what would've happened to Cheers if Diane had stayed on. It may not have lasted as long, but I probably would've liked it even better, if that's possible. :D

Thats where I disagree.... Cheers was never mediocre.
Sure some episodes or seasons were better than others -- but that's destined to happen with any show.

Yeah, Cheers was always pretty consistent. The only time when I really care whether it's the Diane or Rebecca era is when I'm going to dish out 40 dollars for a DVD set. But I still watch the Rebecca years because it's great comedy! A lot better than anything out there on TV today - as you said, barwars.

the genius of cheers was that it had such a strong foundation that it could take anything from having characters leave, to having new ones enter, to having weird story lines like sam and rebecca trying to have a baby.

I think two of the most important elements in the show were
1) the barflies, Norm in particular (he was the show's gravity, as ted danson put it)
2) the bar!

I agree.
I think the show could've gone on without Ted Danson.
I think the show could've gotten even better if the rest of the cast had more time to shine with Sam out of the spotlight.
Or.... it would tank.
I dont know.

Sam was never my favorite character. I liked the barflies a lot better. That is partly why I like the Rebecca years better: 1) I like Rebecca and 2) all the barflies had better roles in my opinion.

You never really know. A lot of people probably tried to say the show wouldn't last when Diane left, but it worked. The key was not trying to replace Diane though with someone like Diane. They got a totally different character. They would have to do the same with Sam.

I dont even think they would've had to replace Sam.
Put Rebecca back in charge of the bar, and add Paul as a perminant barfly.

I agree with you. I thought that the Rebecca years were by far the best years of Cheers. I the writing was sharper and the cast had great chemistry in the Rebecca years. The show was more of an ensumble at that point as apposed to being the Sam and Diane show. DOnt get me wrong I like the Diane years too and think that the Sam and Diane have some of the most hilarious moments of all time together but I just thought as a whole the show just really came together and reached its peak during the Rebecca years.

Yeah the bar flies were always my favorite too( i include Woody in there too cause even tho he was officially a bartender he was always hanging out and treated like one of the bar flies) and like I said before the show became more of an ensumble in the Rebecca years and therefore the barflies had their most classic moments at this time.

my view of the first few seasons weren't of a "sam and diane" show at all. in fact, the first season has a whole lot of episodes that center around the other characters. the same is true for the following few seasons. the only season where i think the sam and diane thing really took over was season 5. even in season 2 they could carry on their relationship without losing focus of the other characters. but i agree that cheers aged well - and i enjoyed watching the gang just being friends without having a romance element in there.

but seriously, look at the episodes in season one as an example - there are so many that have nothing to do with sam&diane.

I look at it as two different shows, b/c although I thought that it was consistently good throughout the 11 seasons, there's no denying (and I don't think anybody is) the hugely different feeling between the Diane years and the Rebecca years. So, that said, I have two least favorite seasons. In the Diane years, it's season 3. As I've said before, Diane and Frasier--YUCK!! In the Rebecca years, it's 8. I was thinking 10 ALSO b/c of the baby thing, but some episodes redeemed it--namely "One Hugs, the Other Doesn't." :)
