My newspaper wrote an article on the top ten sitcoms of all time and Cheers got number 6. I thought it was pretty cool. It beat out The Cosby Show (in your face nick at nite). I just thought I'd mention it!

But I guess you all know that. 6 is pretty good though. LucyFan 05-22-2004, 09:44 PM Originally posted by DianeDiane On E!'s 100 best sitcoms of all time, Cheers was number FOUR!! But I guess you all know that. 6 is pretty good though. Where can I find the list? Do you know? I'm a bit curious. Chambers 05-23-2004, 10:39 AM http://www.eonline.com/On/Rank/Shows/TVComedies/ The list covers 25 TV comedies - not 100 like I had thought. Happy Days is only 15 muahaha. Frasier is 12. Friends is....8 (hmmm). Cosby Show is 3. And....of course...Seinfeld is 1 (*gulp*). I think we all know where Cheers REALLY belongs...but I guess 4 is good enough... Here's what it says about Cheers: 4. Cheers Why It Ranks: Unlike your Uncle Sal, who gets weepy when he drinks, the folks at Boston's Cheers bar got funnier, from the mordant, Oliver Hardy-esque Norm Peterson to his Stan Laurel-like sidekick, obnoxious Cliff Clavin. (The latter was responsible for the now-cliché catchphrase "Did I say that out loud?") A simple setting, great dialogue and a real sense that this was a place where everybody not only knew each other's names but would also know yours, too. Our Favorite Reason to Watch: Nooooorm! On the show they showed a clip of "Thanksgiving Orphans" - the scene where they are starting the food fight and Diane yells at them to stop and gets a bunch of cranberry sauce (or whatever that was) thrown at her. Have any of you seen the E! True Hollywood Story about Cheers? I've never seen it and want to. All I know is that they make Shelley Long sound like a real witch. barwars 05-23-2004, 11:14 AM its.... 4) Cheers 3) The Cosby Show 2) All in the Family 1) Seinfeld Im almost positive. LucyFan.... you dont like Cheers.... so why are you here?! Ive yet to see a list where the number 1 spot wasnt either "I Love Lucy", "All in the Family", or "Seinfeld. Brian Damage 05-23-2004, 11:42 AM TV Guide had an all time greatest sitcoms list, but I forget where Cheers ranked on that. Chambers 05-23-2004, 11:48 AM I vaguely remember that, Brian. TV guide did some other ranks too - "Thanksgiving Orphans" made it as one of the best episodes of all time, and Diane Chambers was one of the best TV characters of all time....or something like that. Wish I could remember more... barwars 05-23-2004, 11:51 AM Thanksgiving Orphans and Home Is The Sailor were the only 2 Cheers episodes that were considered "best" but that works.... they're 2 of my favorites. I always thought All in the Family is stupid Cheers is waaaay better I never thought it deserved to be ranked as one of the greats. I hate that show, I guess some people must like it. barwars 05-23-2004, 09:33 PM Originally posted by CheersChild4life I always thought All in the Family is stupid Cheers is waaaay better I never thought it deserved to be ranked as one of the greats. I hate that show, I guess some people must like it. I like All in the Family, but I prefer Cheers MUCH more!! But I completely understand why its ranked higher. It did so much for television. If it weren't for All in the Family, many elements of Cheers would've never existed. Chambers 05-23-2004, 09:37 PM I must admit I've never seen "All in the Family" - but from what I've read and heard, it dealt with a lot of pressing social and political issues. So I guess there's good reason for it to be up there. CheersChild4life 05-23-2004, 09:40 PM All in the Family just bored me. barwars 05-23-2004, 09:42 PM Originally posted by DianeDiane I must admit I've never seen "All in the Family" - but from what I've read and heard, it dealt with a lot of pressing social and political issues. I grew up mostly in the UK, where they only had FOUR channels! Thank GOD Channel 4 showed Cheers all the time. Otherwise, I may never have been exposed to that brilliant show at all!! The rest of the time I was stuck watching educational documentaries!! Damn public television! :p tiff7 05-23-2004, 09:52 PM CHEERS ROX!!!!!! :) Tiff7 barwars 05-24-2004, 04:14 PM Its a great show.... but I wouldnt say it "rox" actually, nothing "rox" WilCap 05-25-2004, 12:59 PM I am sick of the Cosby SHow being ahead of Cheers. Cheers is the much better show. tiff7 05-25-2004, 01:39 PM yup! :) Cheers is the best show on TV! Tiff7 McFly121 05-27-2004, 05:59 PM Seinfeld, gag, I'll never understand why people love that. I've tried a handful of eps and just stare stonefaced. I guess I just don't "get it". Cosby Show, don't get me staaaaaaaaarted. All In The Family, I hated, but maybe one of the best shows of all time cuz of it's ballsyness, but not a best sitcom. My list which no one will agree with: 1. Cheers 2. Wings 3. Night Court 4. Mr. Belvedere (stop laughing) 5. Three's Company 6. Growing Pains 7. Family Ties 8. Frasier 9. Wonder Years 10. Home Improvement BebeSternin 05-27-2004, 08:51 PM I happen to like the episode of Seinfeld with Jane Leeves, but that's the extent of it. Moondance 05-28-2004, 02:15 PM I happen to like the episode of Seinfeld with Jane Leeves, but that's the extent of it. Haha! Jane Leeves was on Seinfeld? I never watched Seinfeld or Friends, lol! I occasionally watch Will & Grace...partly cause I love Jack and Karen! heehee!
