I think both had been sick for quite some time. However, I think both characters lasted until the finale of the season, then died shortly after the episode was filmed.


But which death shocked you most? Did you expect them to happen, or was it a surprise? Was the public aware of the health of these men? I think when Watching Gimme A Break it's easy to see that the Chief was at his end (Lost most of his hair and was really thin), but the Coach from Cheers I think looked the same until the end. What does everyone else think?

Selma Diamond from Night Court also died around the same time (actually, only like 2 or 3 weeks after Dolph Sweet did)

And then Florence Halop died a year or two after her. Night Court didn't have luck with baliffs in the early years.

I knew Dolph Sweet was sick and probably wasn't going to be able to go on to much longer. He missed a lot of episodes of the 1984-85 seqson because of his illness and in some others he only put in a cameo appearance.

I think when Marsha Warfield survived summer 1987 (Selma Diamond died in summer 1985, and Florence Halop in summer 1986), I could just picture her jumping for joy like Kenny on the first Christmas episode of South Park, in which he didn't die in.
