dlemond 05-20-2004, 10:04 PM Seinfeld - More information trickles out...

Earlier today we received this email from a trusted news source. Please keep in mind that this is not official information until it is announced by the studio, and it could change before the set is announced. We're posting this because it's one of the first glimpses we have at what Columbia TriStar has in store for the show.
As mentioned, I attended a presentation from Columbia today, where they presented the Seinfeld DVD package. There is no set date yet. November was mentioned. What is set is that there will be a season 1 and 2 box - total 18 episodes, 4 discs , $49.95 SLP and a Season 3 box, 22 Episodes, 4 discs, same SLP. They are also planning a gift set of the 2 boxes combined ,with a TBD gift item, at a list price of $129.95. They showed some of the new footage that will be part of the extras, with Seinfeld walking around NYC to different landmarks, including the convenience store where he and Larry David were shopping, and conceived the idea for the show ! They also showed snippets of Larry David speaking, and some other footage implying that there will be other behind the scenes footage. They are going to promote it like an event film title, and have very high expectations, without a doubt!!!
This sounds very exciting, and we'll keep you updated with any information we obtain from the studio, or through other channels. Please don't forget out disclaimer: this is not official information.

sinatrastar 05-20-2004, 11:30 PM $130 hmmm that is steep. I am guessing the gift is that doll from the show that looked just like George's mom. :D
Maestro 05-20-2004, 11:31 PM I'm excited about the DVD release... but dang$$$$$$$$$!
That's good ol' top dollar Sein for ya'.
Thanx for the update lemond
dlemond 05-20-2004, 11:44 PM One curious thing is that the actual first 2 seasons totalled 17 episodes not 18.
And the third season was 23 episodes not 22.
And going by airdate it would make no sense to include one extra on the first DVD set and one less on the second set (3rd season).
The 23 episodes of season 3 were a full season run.
I'm assuming there is a mistake somewhere.
kramer 05-20-2004, 11:55 PM I might be not reading this correctly, but if season 1 and 2 are together and season 3 is separate why whould I have to pay 29 dollars too much? Season 1 and 2 together is 50 and season 3 is 50, why am I paying $129.50?
Brian Damage 05-21-2004, 11:02 AM It's great news that the Dvd's are coming out, but that is steep for the box set. Even seperately that is steep.

I think because it is supposed to some kind of "special" set with some kind of (TBD??) "gift."
The deluxe set thing I guess.
dlemond 05-21-2004, 11:20 AM The box set must have some sort of bonus gift.
If the 2 sets are $50.00 suggested price, that means you can get it for under $40.00.
Personally, I will get season 3 first, and the 1&2 set can wait.
Ant-Lox 05-23-2004, 10:30 AM I will buy it no matter what the price is...I just cant wait...
flagler 05-25-2004, 11:00 PM Season three has 22 episodes if you count the 1Hr Episode "The Boyfriend" as one episode instead of two.
Don't know about the 18 eps, must be a mistake, remember nothing is official, they may change the gift set price at a later date, but maybe the gift is worth the extra money.

Same here.
Im going to ask for the box set for Christmas.
check tvshowsondvd.com for more news that came today!!
savy333 06-01-2004, 07:24 PM I can't wait, I can't wait!
It is especially exciting that they are quickly releasing the seasons, giving us three seasons at a time. I hate how most shows make you wait six months in between each season. If Seinfeld was smart he would release all the seasons within a year (like one season each month). There is just no point in spacing them out. It doesn't make me want the dvds any more or less by the amount of time between each season's release date. Does anyone else feel my pain?
barwars 06-01-2004, 07:33 PM There are four cover art options in the survey (provided by a link at tvshowsondvd.com)
Here's one of the options for the packaging of "Seasons 1&2"....
barwars 06-01-2004, 07:37 PM here's another option....
Brian Damage 06-03-2004, 10:05 AM To be honest, since it deals with seasons 1&2, it should have an earlier picture of the cast.
Brian Damage 06-03-2004, 10:08 AM something like this...
Ant-Lox 06-05-2004, 10:37 AM I cried when I looked at those covers...This will be the best christmas since I was 6...
sinatrastar 06-05-2004, 11:08 PM
That was good.
I'm not to sure about the DVD's. It will make it too accessible. It is kind of nice having to make time to watch the show, makes you appreciate it a bit more. But I can do without all the editing.
Maestro 06-06-2004, 12:06 AM Last night I saw a repeat of Jerry on Leno. He says the xtras will be awesome, that will be cool.
I know what you mean about the accesibility, but it's on all the time anyways. It will be kinda weird though.
Brian Damage 06-06-2004, 11:25 AM At least with the DVD's you can control when you want to watch what.
Maestro 06-06-2004, 11:59 AM Exactly, nice not to be at the mercy of some TV station.
I get a little saturated from time to time. I'll prob do a long, forced break on watching episodes until the DVD release, then do some watching in order.
They better not drag out the release of the rest of the seasons for another 6 years!!!
Ant-Lox 06-07-2004, 06:34 AM I tend not to watch Seinfeld during the summer because I'm never home, So I will miss it then the DVD's will come out and I will love i all over again.:D
Brian Damage 06-07-2004, 10:19 AM Here's hoping the DVD sales are good. Otherwise, we'll just be stuck with 3 seasons.
flagler 06-20-2004, 09:11 PM I was thinking when it says the first two seasons has a total of 18 eps, do you think they will put the episode "The Stranded" back with the second season where it was originally going to air?
Season 3 would then total 22 eps if you count the 1hr ep as two episodes making the information correct.

That's stupid- if you don't want the episodes to be too "accessible" then just don't buy the dvds! Me? I am excited that I can watch the episodes when and where I want to and they will be perfect quality and have no commercials to boot.
sinatrastar 07-05-2004, 12:03 AM Ouch. That is what I was saying, I wasn't sure about buying them. Plus I have a George-like cheapness about buying DVD's or movies. The only ones that I can think of that I own are for the kids.
It's like going to a prostitute, or paying for parking. Why should I pay to buy a show when if I apply myself, maybe I could get it for free on the TV? ;)
spunkygirl 07-08-2004, 01:39 AM New update:
Seinfeld - Possible release date?
Posted by David Lambert
7/07/2004
In our last, and most-packed-with-info-yet, news item for the upcoming Seinfeld DVD releases, we gave you some detailed information about what the releases would look like:
Seinfeld - Seasons 1 & 2 will be out on DVD in November (18 episodes, 4 discs, $49.95 SRP). On the exact same day you'll be able to buy Seinfeld - Season 3 (22 episodes, 4 discs, $49.95 SRP). And both boxsets will be combined together into a gift set packaged with one (1) of the gifts, probably chosen from those pictured above ($129.95 SRP). We don't have exact release dates yet, but we're watching for them.
Each release will be packaged in individual "thinpak" slim cases for each disc, within an outer slipcase of either plastic or board (probably chosen from the designs pictured above). Extras will include participation from all four major cast members, plus Larry David and others. The video is being remastered in high definition.
So what is that release date in November? We're still 2 months away from an official announcement, assuming Columbia TriStar goes by their usual pattern on this one. So anything we tell you today could be wrong. And, even if it's right, Columbia could go ahead and change the date and MAKE it wrong.
But today we received word from reader Abby Knouse, who noticed that an online CD/DVD retailer called "CDUniverse" (aka "VideoUniverse") has put the Seinfeld - Seasons 1 & 2 box set up for pre-order, and they show a November 16 release date on that.
Having said that, I will point out that you're taking your chances if you pre-order the set from them now. Once Columbia gets word that the e-tailer has put the item up for pre-order prior to the announce date, they are very likely to force them to take down the listing until the proper date.
In fact, we're kind of taking our own chances in reporting this information early. However it IS news that our readers want to know, and we are cautioning you to take it with a grain of salt.
Stay tuned, and we'll see what happens. Our thanks to Abby for alerting us to this.

Culver City, Calif., August 6, 2004 -- Considered one of the most innovative, popular and successful TV comedy series of all time and now the most anticipated TV-to-DVD ever, Seinfeld, the show about nothing, finally debuts on DVD November 23 – newly enhanced in high definition. includes all 22 episodes from season three. Each volume will be loaded with approximately 12 hours of exclusive special features from the creative talents behind the show, including a full- length documentary, extensive creator, cast and production commentaries, bloopers, deleted scenes, exclusive never-before-seen Jerry Seinfeld stand-up comedy footage and trivia pertinent to each season. Both releases feature the original NBC network versions, 1-2 minutes longer than the syndicated versions and not seen since their original broadcast runs. Additionally, Volume 1 features two versions of the original pilot episode.
Gregory M. Paul, President and Chief Operating Officer of Castle Rock, said, “We are thrilled to see the show looking so terrific in this remarkable new DVD release. I’m confident it will satisfy the show’s loyal fans as well as bring in a whole new generation of viewers.”
Said Seinfeld executive producer Howard West, “This is something George [Shapiro, also a Seinfeld exec producer] and I never could have imagined when the show began. To have this opportunity to go back, restore the elements, revive Jerry’s unused stand-up, bring the talent back to chat about the show and then see the original episodes with high-definition images has been a thrill for all of us. I think we’ve more than met the challenge of DVD and have made every effort to stay true to the essence of Jerry’s unique brand of comedy which has become so deeply a part of mainstream American culture.”
Benjamin Feingold, President of Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment noted, “We’re delighted to be working with the Castle Rock team and the Seinfeld creators on this DVD release which we expect to become the #1 TV-to-DVD of all time. We’re particularly happy for the fans, who have inundated us with an overwhelming number of letters and e-mails in recent years, indicating this is the title for which they’ve waited the longest.”
About Seinfeld
Seinfeld, which aired on NBC for nine years, focuses on four single friends living in New York. At the core of the group is Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), a stand-up comedian whose professional path includes a shot at creating a network sitcom, a guest spot on the “Today” show, a wealth of other experiences gone awry and a personal life rife with an endless parade of never-quite-right girlfriends. His childhood best friend, George Costanza (Jason Alexander), could be deemed the quintessential loser: he can never hold on to a job or a girlfriend… although he has more than enough schemes for trying to make both happen. Jerry’s ex, Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) offers her own string of bad dates and worrisome workplace sagas. And lastly, there’s
curiously-coiffed Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards) -- Jerry’s over-the-top, offbeat and often mysterious neighbor, with no visible means of support and an uncanny knack for opening doors to opportunities he has no business being near.
One only has to mention Superman or the Soup Nazi, Jujyfruits or Junior Mints, Festivus or Manziers or Low- or Close-Talkers to be reminded of the show’s peerless plots, quips and characters. Seinfeld was also noted for coining many phrases that have since come into commonplace usage: “Master of your domain,” “Yada, yada, yada,” “Sponge-worthy,” “Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” “Double-dipping,” “Re-gifting” and “manhands,” among countless others.
Seinfeld changed the landscape of TV forever, leaving the air in 1998 as the number one
Nielsen-rated show in both comedy and drama. Nominated for an incredible 57 Emmy Awards®, Seinfeld won a total of 13, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. TV Guide ranked it #1 on its list of “50 Greatest Shows of All Time.”

sinatrastar 08-06-2004, 10:58 AM Well for the first time I am actually getting excited about the DVD's. Especially that alternate Pilot. Then again do we really need more of Season 1? :D
I am a high tech dufus, but does a sitcom look better in high-def?

It looks clearer and since the November 23rd volumes are of episodes that aired around 1989-1991 this will be a real treat because any fuzziness or low picture quality will be fixed to its fullest potential.
I'm really excited, but I just wish they had a separate package dealing with each season instead of throwing the first two seasons together, but it's not such a bad idea since there's only 18 episodes between those first two seasons.
I can't wait for my favorite season, the seventh, but I'll probably have to wait until 2006 for that one. I'm thinking they'll come out with at least the 4th and 5th seasons next year.

I think, they are going to include "The Stranded" in the season 1 and 2 DVD, which was made for season 2, but aired during season 3.
I wonder in "The Revenge" will they use both the Larry David and Wayne Knight as the voice of Newmen versions? Or just one version?
And what will do when they get to season 4, which versions of "The Handicap Space" episode will they use? The one with Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza, or John Randolph as Frank Costanza? Or will they use both versions?
