Hello - Do any of you think Lucy will fade away and no one will care about her or do you think she'll remain popular? Explain what you think.

I think about this often, and the awful, horrible, unbelievable truth is..probably so. I'm 15 currently, and when I'm 35, ILL will be 73 years old..when I'm 50 (I don't even want to think about that!), ILL will be 88 years old! And if the times around us are changing this fast, I'm afraid ILL will be swept away by its current.

LET'S NOT THINK ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW, THOUGH! :D

Still, if TV Land tries to take ILL off for good, I will..I will..DO SOMETHING VERY BAD! BWUAHAHA!

LONG LIVE DESI & LUCY!

I doubt it. The show is still going strong over a half century after it debuted. You can't say that about many other shows. Even though it's not shown on tv too often right now, people are still buying a lot of ILL merchandise. And with more things becoming available (like Here's Lucy), people's interest should remain.

If it hasn't faded yet, I kinda doubt it will.

I don't think I Love Lucy will fade away. It's too much of a classic to just up and disappear. Besides, the show stars one of American's top 10 pop culture icons: Lucille Ball!

Hey Crazyredhead, if you love I Love Lucy, perhaps my experience will give you some hope for the future...

When I was about 14 or 15, I remember having a conversation with my friends, and one of us came up with the idea of forming a TV station which would only show reruns of classic shows... we figured it would be great to have a TV station that would just show things like "I Love Lucy" "Get Smart" "Green Acres" and all of those great shows... as you probably know, Nick at Nite and TV Land stole our idea, and the rest is history...

But we had that conversation back in about 1974...30 years ago... and some of my friends thought that I Love Lucy wouldn't be on that much longer, because it was already almost 25 years old at THAT time... when you're 14 or 15, 25 years does seem like forever....But, as I'm sure you're aware, I Love Lucy has never been off the air since then...

I remember mentioning to them that I didn't think I Love Lucy would ever go off the air, because great comedy is great comedy... at that time, the Marx Brothers movies were having a bit of a revival, and they pre-dated I Love Lucy by 15-20 years themselves...and even though TV is different from movies, if a show is good enough, it'll last...

And so, here we are, 30 years later, and I Love Lucy is still going strong... I don't think you need to worry about Lucy ever going off the air... you might not think that kids a generation from now will like it, but look at you...you're 15, and you sound like quite a fan...and there are a lot of you out there...and your kids'll love it too...if they give it a chance...

Actually, I take part of that back....I'm thinking that there is ONE thing that could kill I Love Lucy for TV...and that's if EVERYONE ends up owning the complete series on DVD...

NO WAY!!!!!!!

Lucy isn't going anywhere, Lucy will go on being loved by generations yet to come. If she isn't dead yet in this hellatious world we live in now, where morals have typically been flushed down the toilet, then she isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I know many youngsters that absolutly love her and there many youngins that have their parents take them to the annual Lucy Fests in her home town, A friend I once had has a neice that is already showing signs of being as much a Lucy Fan as her auntie, and I have a feeling that will be one trait that will be handed down for generations to come.
Lucy has made history, it is said that her face has been seen more times by more people than any other persona in HISTORY, well at least one under the Savior Himself, at least she is in good company.:D
She has the standards for many talented indiviuals in the medium of television, and she will continue to inspire many, many more.
So now all I have to say to that is
YOU GO LUCY!!!!!

The only way for ILL to stay alive is for your kids to love Lucy too. When this generation is gone, what about the next? Will they be loving Lucy?

Nah, I don't think people will ever stop loving Lucy, even many, many years from now. As long as it's still being aired or they're selling the episodes, more people in the future will get into it. I've been a Lucy fan since I was a little kid (I'm 17 now) and I Love Lucy is still pretty popular for first airing over 50 years ago, her comedy just doesn't get outdated. Even after repeatedly watching episodes, it still makes me laugh. :)

It probably will fade away one day but not for quite a while. Hopefully when it does fade away I won't be around anymore. But for now it doesn't seem to be fading away. Look at the ratings for the show. When TV Land aired the very first episode the same night it premeired 50 years ago it brought in TV Land's highest rating with over a million viewers. Compared to broadcast networks a million viewers isn't much but by TV Land terms that many viewers is huge. Plus when CBS did there whole I Love Lucy speical it got very good ratings to. So it won't fade away anytime soon.

when time ends, i love lucy will still be going strong. lucy broke the mold (echo lol) for every tv show, it even said so in the e true hollywood story for crying out loud! thanks to lucy, sitcoms havent lost all hope, most but not all. most hollywood celebrities as a matter of fact look up to her as a role model, now thats an honor. our children's children will grow up with lucy and maybe even go into showbiz because of her and by then the show will be off the original airwaves 120 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Way!! Lucy will never fade away or be forgotten! I'm 33 yrs. old and my parents watched it with their parents, I watched with both my parents and grandparents and now it is up to us to pass it on to our kids instead of letting them watch the crap today, throw in a tape or DVD of I Love Lucy, they will love it! I Love Lucy and Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz will continue to live as long as we have a world! I have already introduced Lucy and Desi to my year old niece and she loves them! It's the same as marketing a new product, SELL, SELL, SELL!!! The kids will love it as much as we do! Lucy is timeless! As always, JMO. :D

She just turned a year old (1) on May 4th this year. ;) The way I see it is if you want to start kids off in the right direction, then you gotta start them young! :D

I predict her first sentence will be "Thank you so much for introducing me to I Love Lucy because, even though I'm only a year old, this is so much better than the rest of the crap that's on TV today, and I shall remain everlastingly indebted to you"

She's probably practicing those words when she's by herself in her crib, because she wants to make sure she says it correctly the first time... you'll be amazed!
I predict she'll utter these words any day now :)

Yes, the next generation will love Lucy too! As long as it is on TV new fanbases will develop.

Look at it this way. I am 16. I've been a fan of I Love Lucy since before I can even remember. My Mom is not a Lucy fan. My Dad is not a Lucy fan. I wasn't "brought up on Lucy". No one in my family is a Lucy nut but me... I just managed to catch the show on Nick At Night and became a huge fan. I didn't care the show was in black and white. I didn't care that the show was almost 50 years old and I didn't care if some of the dialogue seemed a little outdated because it made me laugh like no other show could. You just can't get a good belly laugh the way you can from an ILL episode!

And now, I have purchased all the DVDs and it is my absolute favorite show. So, it just goes to show you that the show will not just fade away. There are millions of young people just like me that are discovering the show as we speak.

However, I will say that people that are my age (that have good taste) are few and far between. Sadly, too many of them watch nothing but MTV and Growing up Gotti!

But, I dare anyone not to laugh when Ricky falls into the ocean and Ethel screams "Are you wet?" That kind of comedy is timeless!

You know if I ever have kids... I am not letting them watch the crap on TV today. I remember when I first started watching TV, when I was 6 or 7, I watched Nick at Night. I watched The Munsters and I Love Lucy/The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour. It explains why I have such great taste! LOL!

But seriously, maybe that fact that I was raised on classic television explains why I wish I was born in the last generation. I may be a teenager, but I am certainly not listening to Eminem and watching Pokemon episodes. I prefer classic rock, classic TV shows, old movies....

I'm 13, and I am a HUGE Lucy fan. My mom has watched Lucy all of her life, my dad has, and my grandparents remember watching it when it first came on. Same goes for shows like Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, etc. I first watched I Love Lucy from my crib on Nick-at-Nite, and still watch it when I can on TV Land. I would lots rather watch TV Land than the garbage on MTV, VH1, etc......I could care less about the latest rap song -- give me The Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. anyday!! I'm stuck in the past. :D

Hi, I am new.

And I don't think so! I Love Lucy has lasted all these years and it will continue. And I am only 18 and I love it. So I think as long as people keep watching and sharing with their kids and stuff, Lucy will live on forever. JMO.
