It looks great, the funny thing is, many people are saying that Mayor Bloomberg is relying on the Olympic bid to get this stadium built.

That is probably the case.

As a citizen of the West Side of Manhattan, this project is creating a lot of controversy. Many folks are against it. Lots of flyers and "No Stadium" posters are being dispalyed.

Who knows what's going to happen...

Interesting TJL. Why the opposition? I assume because it will displace some people and cause crowding during games?

What kind of area is it in? From the article it sounded like they were trying to revitalize the area to some degree.

Wouldn't most football fans there like to see the Jets play in the city?

The stadium would be built over some existing train yards (a vast open area) but a few surrounding buildings would be torn down. The area is also fairly remote part of the West Side, so it's not like their going to cut out a large swath of apartment buildings to build the stadium.
But alas, there will always be groups that will complain if one citizen or business has to vacate the area.

The biggest problam is traffic. As you can see by the drawing, there aren't any adjacent parking structures. There are parking lots in the area, but they would be filled to capacity. Plus traffic going in and getting out of NYC via the Lincoln Tunnel would be a hassle (as it always is). There are no subways West of 8th Avenue, so it's going to be a bit of a hike to get to the new stadium, so subway lines would eventually have to be extended to 11th and/or 12th Avenue. There are talks of having ferry services delivering people from across the river in NJ and from lower Manhattan, but the biggest problem is car traffic.

As a sports fan, yeah it would be cool to walk ten minutes to the stadium to see a game, but it's a monumental project that's just going to cause headaches and make Manhattan even more crowded.

But Basketball City which is also located on the west side is not having that much of a problem. Once you enter the complex the traffic is at a minimum. I think the problem is 42nd street and 34th street. Yankee Stadium has the same problem. There is only one highway leading directly to it. They cope with it all the time. I live in the bronx so when there is a game i already know that there will be some extra traffic so I avoid the Major Deegan expressway. Mind you..this is the same expressway leading to the George Washington Bridge( even more traffic).
I think the west side could use a stadium. That helicoptor pad(27th)..that sanitation depot (57th)are all an eyesore.*l*

who wants to go to queens...only tennis fans. Hell...Met fans dont even want to go all the way to queens. Its too spaced out. That damn 7 train is a nightmare. ugly purple beast :lol:
