I hate driving behind old people on the road cause they drive too slow. They need to have somebody younger drive for them to go to the store for them & run errands for them cause they're horrible drivers LOL.

Hey, don't criticize old people's driving skills! My grandmother is an excellent driver and she is perfectly capable of doing much more than you.

My great-grandma is 79 and she's always speeding.

LOL@your grandma can much more than me. Shut the hell up. That's odd to see a 79 yr old woman speeding. My grandfather always tells me that he doesn't care about people driving past him cause he ain't in no rush to get to where he's got to go. He also said whenever he sees a person in his bumper, he puts his brakes on so they can get from behind him LOL.

I get frustrated too when driving behind an older person but you have to realize that they are just being cautious. There are a whole bunch of younger people who don't need to be on the road either. This guy I work with was just in an accident the other day. He was hit by some 18 year old kid who wasn't paying attention and ran a red light. He was going 70 miles an hr in a 50 mile an hr zone. Luckily no one was seriously injured.

I think once you get to a certain age, it should be required to take another driving test, because lets be honest.. a lot of the older people (not all) cant drive safely on the road for the rest of us. Theres nothing with going a little bit below the speed limit but when the speed is 35 and youre going about 22, its time to get off the road. Driving too slowly is just as bad as driving too fast.

I think they should at least take driving tests when they reach a certain age. If you can't see straight or can't hear, you shouldn't be driving. There was an incident in California several months ago where an old man plowed into a Pedestrian market and killed several people. There were a couple of smaller incidents after that as well. We were at a gas station last year and this old guy in front of us backed into us(from the front). He was only going about 10 mph, so it didn't cause any damage, but he obviously couldn't hear because we were blowing the horn.

I would love to hear you when you get old! I agree though that there are some bad elder drivers out there but IMO young girls/women are the worst tailgaters! I think that they are usually late getting to work and that is the reason. I have seen some really bad young drivers!(male or female)

I agree. Most of the bad drivers I see around here are very young drivers. They speed, tailgate, yell out their windows and have their radio's blasting so loud you can't think. While some elder people are bad drivers, I don't think its fair to condemn all of them. I rather get behind someone who drives a little slow then someone who is driving to fast.

I've just started driving and will be 16 in a little over 2 months. I am still pretty paranoid right now. I try to stay around the speed limit, but don't speed. I'm getting better about the city traffic, but still am a bit nervous.

One of my favorite things:rolleyes: is when you get behind one that feels the need to leave one of their blinkers on forever and ever. This is not just an old person problem either, but it is annoying no matter who does it.

LOL

What's worse is when someone doesn't signal at all or puts their signal on at the last minute and slams on the brakes. Ugh... that is going to cause a wreck one day.

my father's 68 and I've been in the car with him as recently as 2 months ago and I was afraid of him driving so fast.

Better to have a fast dad than a slow dad, LOL

Yep, LOL!

My grandpa's 64 and he loves to speed. :)

My great-grandmother(doesn't drive anymore), but a few years back she would have to sit on phone books to see over the dash, LOL and then would drive slow as Christmas, but my great-grandfather(he's dead now) would speed like crazy.

I know the same can be said for ALOT Of teenagers. I have been behind quite a few that just make all teenagers look like terrible drivers.

Old people have nothing on the idiots who feel the need to speed when the roads are covered with snow and ice, and then wonder why in the heck they crashed

My Dads 52 and likes to go 'the speed limit'. Yawn. Hes always telling me to go slow, especially on the highway because I have a small car and Id be dead in a second. He also tells me to drive in the slow in the first lane and go 55mph. 55?!?! My God! The speed limit is 65. I go in the third lane at about 80.:o But he doesnt know that.

My dad goes 80-85 on the interstate most of the time. Speed limit is 70. It doesn't bother me though. Faster speed equals less time in the car.

A lot of elderly drivers have this crazy idea that they should obey the speed limit.

Old people are too slow (I've seen some of them constantly drift off to the side of the road like they're falling asleep.. that scares me). Teenagers are way too fast. I can't leave my school parking lot right away because it is way too dangerous. It's dangerous walking out to the car and just plain suicidal trying to leave right away.

You can hardly go the speed limit on a lot of interstates and not get run clean off the highway, much less 10 miles below the limit.

LOL, that is so true. A few months ago, the first time I EVER drove on an interstate, I was on the entrance ramp(where you pick up speed) and my dad's like come on, if you don't make it they will run you over. I got up to 70 and people were FLYING by me.

I like the interstate a lot more than the city traffic though.

I think drivers should be required to take a road test every couple of years, starting at age 70. If they still have good driving skills, they have nothing to fear. Often, they are a danger to themselves and others.

Every once in a while, someone will suggest this discriminatory practice. It then prompts me to suggest a more egalitarian solution:

If safety is the main concern, test EVERY driver of EVERY age every two or three years across the board. This process will not only screen out all the elderly motorists who should not be behind the wheel, but will also highlight young and middle aged drivers who may need a refresher course in their driving skills. However, there's usually not a lot of support for my idea and I suspect the reasons are:

A) Many young and middle aged drivers fear that they could not consistently live up to the same standards that they want to hold elderly drivers to.

B) Many young and middle aged drivers experience road rage with elderly motorists simply because the elderly tend to obey the speed limit and interfere with their ability to break it.

C) One consistent theme throughout the human race has been the need to have a scapegoat instead of accepting responsibility across the board.

No one of any age should fear a regular driving test if they are secure in their driving skills. However, a society in which the average driver cannot even grasp a simple concept like obeying the speed limit, should not be singling out any one particular group of people as the culprit on the road.

I belive eveyone needs to take a refresher test and vison test when they renew their license and that might cut down on some accidents.

Most accidents happen due to driver stupidity. Not paying attention, talking on the cell phone, eating, playing with the radio.
