What are the correct average life spans? A girl in my class says 85 for men, 80 for women. I thought it was like 74 for men and 79 for women.

It's lower than what your classmate said. I think it's either 78 Women/74 Men or 76 Men/72 Women.

78 women, 74 men sounds about right. That's what I found on a few websites. But the sources vary. I've heard 82 women/80 men, 79 women/72 men, 79 women/74 men, or the one you said.

I'm 27 yrs old & i'm glad to be able to live another day even though i don't pray to God enough for being able to see another day. The way young black males be gettin killed everyday in the hoods across america before they reach their 30's is a sad situation. I remember when Boyz N The Hood movie came out & director John Singleton had put a message up on the screen saying how a lot of black males in the hood don't live to see 25.

Her religion teaches her that there were people way back who lived to be 900/1000. Does anyone here believe in this?

A woman's average lifespan is def. higher than the man's. I'm pretty certain it's 79-woman, 74-man.

Yes, I do. I'm taught the same thing. My religion teacher said that was how old Adam and Eve were. I think it would be weird to be that old! I've never been told why people lived to be that old then and now people don't, but my friend says that it's because God realized that there were to many people on the planet.

It would. If many are sick and dying at 100, imagine 1000!

I personally don't believe in that, but some do, so I'll respect their opinions.

I am religious, but I don't believe in the living to 1000 part of it. I wasn't taught that, but different religions believe in different things.;)

My mom's expected life span is 85-90, my dad's is 65-70, and mine is 80-90.

Women are higher, I know that. The reason is because men die of boredom.

As of 1996 it was 79 women/73 men: http://www.originalghr15.com/secrets.html

The good news is... it goes up for both everytime they do a new study! :)

In 1900, the average male lifespan was 48!

If that was 1996, it must be about 82 for women and 77 for men now.

It's not going up THAT fast, but remember this is the AVERAGE. I think the oldest person in the U.S. was like 118 or something like that.

I don't want to think about me living to be 118, it'll be the year 2106!

:eek2:

The oldest person, I believe, was Jeanne Calment, who was 122. Am I right? That's what my friend told me.

There was a lady in my town who died when she was 130!

She should be in the record book! Now, to think when you are 30 that you may have a possible 100 years left, or when you are 65 that you may have only lived one half of your life!

You are correct.

She was born in February 1875 and passed away in August 1997. I remember it because it was about two weeks before I turned 12 when she died. It was front-page news at the time. I remember reading that when she was 100 in 1975, she was STILL biking her bike.

She lived in Paris, France, I believe.

Hang on, I'll find it in my book, take a pic and attach...

As of the time of publication of the '04 Guinness Book of World Records, she is still the oldest human being to have lived.
