VH1 put Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" on "Awesomely Bad Videos" list for using and dancing with an animated cat for a lead co-star. A commentor on that show said that the cat danced better than her which was pretty embarassing.

JUst about all of these new rap videos. They suck so bad.
The Polymorphic Spree video for Night and Day.
The Modest Mouse video.
The New Found Glory video off their new album.

That's all I can think of now. There's another video that I think is terrible, but I can't remember the band.

Opposites Attract was a CUTE video. Back when Paula was popular (and I mean, popular for herself, not for being a television judge), I remember that video was so well-liked. That video was for her what Thriller was to MJ, what Like A Prayer was to Madonna, what Sledgehammer was to Peter Gabriel. It was a great video and the only reason the video gets slammed is because it's "okay" to bash Paula

Actually I don't like the video either, but I have to defend it. The "Can't Hold Us Down" was in fact a hit in the major music video stations (including MTV and Fuse,) it was also one of MTV's Top 5 most played vids at the time.

BTW, all old videos fade into obscurity, and are rarely shown. Why should "Can't Hold Us Down" be any different?... When was the last time you've seen Janet's "I Want You"?... and that vid is less than 2 months old.

Whoops Now from Janet Jackson is a bad video!! This was the first video from her that I thought, "I can't wait for this to be over with". I rated it "0 stars, never play again". It looks like a home movie(like the ones on American Funny Videos" and her makeup was horrible. She had on sunglasses and was wearing the wrong shade of lipstick, a kind of reddish-pinkish lipstick! Her hair was in a high ponytail and she looked nothing like herself. It was as if she paid someone to lip-synch her songs and take her place in the video. And if she bopped her head one more time, I was going to scream!! She bopped her heads too many times to count in this video! This video made me want to throw up!! The interesting thing (one of the only ones) was the beginning opening scene with the rushing water!

With all respect to my friend Jrnygrl, I'll have to say Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" takes the cake. It's just so, so bad.

Playing air instruments behind a warehouse? What were you thinking guys?

And when Steve grabs his wrist while pumping his fist in the air, it makes me think his carpal-tunnel is bugging him.

Great song, lame video.

true, but in the days that Duran Duran and Madonna were getting banned, MTV actually showed videos.

I think it's funny for them to ban a video nowadays, because they only show the same 6 videos anyway

It was the 80's. If you have VH1 Classic, you'll see tons of videos where you'll ask "what were they thinking?" It was all cool back then because videos were still relatively new, and directors and artists would try almost anything to try to satnd out, be artistic, etc. Looking back at all that stuff now, you wonder how there was ever a time when it looked "cool". Like Kim Carnes' Bette Davis Eyes video for example, with people simulating slapping each other, pounding their palms to the floor with their dark, mysterious costumes on. Loved it back then, now... :thumbsdow

Kim Carnes made the weirdest videos ever. Draw Of The Cards especially, I've seen it on VH1 Classic several times. It makes the Bette Davis Eyes video look normal. Kim in a weird Chinatown type of place running from a long-tongued beast, and at the video he captures her and they dance together with her in his arms.... my friend Lisa and I saw the video at the same time and we were making fun of it, lol.

I have to look out for that one, I know of her song Draw of The Cards but don't remember the video. I should actually take it back that I don't like the Bette Davis Eyes vid now, I really do love seeing all that old cheesy 80s stuff, what makes some of it so good is that it's so bad.

another really bad video I can remember was How Can We Be Lovers by Michael Bolton.

This was the dawn of the 90's when he was so huge, yet for this song/video, he tried appealing to the hard rock market, and while MTV (which never played Bolton any other time) gave it airplay, it didn't win him over the metal fanbase he wanted.

From what I understand, they needed to have a video, their manager hired the director who was in town, because they only had a day to shoot it, and they went with what they had. Their explanation is they were not into doing the video, and really weren't that into the whole concept of this one, and they trusted their managers judgement on this.

Moral of this story: don't trust your manager.

Your right, and it was during the Frontiers tour that the video was made because Herbie Herbert, their manager at the time, wanted Journey to be apart of the MTV generation, and everyone was doing video. Journey never liked it and never enjoyed doing it. But because they came into the era of MTV Herbie felt it was needed.

All of their other video has been concert footage, except for the song from their Trial By Fire CD they had one video made for the song "When You Love A Women."

Yeah, when I first saw "Thankyou" I thought it was disturbing. And, the video of "Dirty" by Christina Aguilera really draws the line. I think Alanis Morrissette is more artistic that Christina though when it comes to her music. Alanis at least trys to write songs that mean something. The best song I've heard Christina sing as far as artistic songs that have a message go is "Beautiful".

another really bad one I failed to mention was a little-known video circa 1983 by The Parachute Club called Rise Up.

I caught the video on VH1 Classic awhile back and the video was so bad I almost had nightmares over it. The music was horrific, the clothes were hideous (a lot of orange), the extras in the video were terrible, it even had mimes, and to top it off, I'm still unsure whether the lead singer is a male or female. VH1 Classic replayed the video today and I got a friend of mine who appreciates bad stuff as much as I do, and we made fun of the video together. She thinks the band apparently screwed over the director or something, and this truly terrifying video was his revenge to the band.

One of the absolute most grosteque videos ever filmed (probably worse than the aforementioned Jagger clip), and if you have the chance to catch it, make sure your gag reflexes aren't too sensitive or you'll be throwing up food you ate 2 years ago, lol.

lol That is the most horrific video I have ever seen! Every 80s cliche you can think of rolled into a 3 minute clip. Bright orange parachute pants, an androgynous singer, a bad Michael Jackson impersonation and for some strange reason, quite a few bare feet. Until BuffySlayer told me about the video, I had no idea that it existed. Really not sure how a gem like this one stayed hidden for so long.
