Well guys and dolls, looks like TJL is on the disabled list for a while...

I broke my right middle finger at work today. We were moving some heavy steel beams when one of them fell and landed on a piece of angle iron I was placing underneath it, crushing my hand and sending me into a fit of profanity that cannot be measured by modern technology.

Luckily, the break is at the tip of the finger, which is a bit swollen and bruised. I have to see an orthopedic specialist
on Wednesday who will tell me how long I'll be laid up. The emergency room Doc (who looked like none of the oh so gorgeous folks on ER) said it'll be a few weeks until I'm back on my finger again.

On the positive side, I can still type, so I'll be able to catch up on some projects, and the splint I have to wear enables me to flip everyone the bird!!

;)

Thanks guys.

You'll be happy to know I've decided to give myself some time to heal.

I'll wait until tomorrow night before I start drinking.

Reminds me of when I dropped a huge wooden plank on my finger last summer. I was in shock, I couldn't believe the pain. I just stood there staring at it for a while. Nothing broke, just made my fingernail turn black.

My fingernail is fine. The other side of my finger is purple and swollen.

You know in cartoons when a character smashes his thumb with a hammer and it balloons up and starts throbbing?

It looks just like that.

Enjoy your dinner.

A few years back when my dad was building the porch. He was using a nail gun, and put a nail right through his thumb. Blood was everywhere. He is ok now. But he was in pain.

Haha. that bit about the ER doc cracked me up.

Man, breaks are a bitch. I hope it's not hurting too badly. No pain medicine? That's just cruel. I'm glad the break didn't inhibit your ability to do two necessary things though--type and flip the birdie! At least you lucked out there.

- get well tjl

Poor, Poor TJL...........

The good thing is that you can type so we could still hear from you.

I hope the pain subsides. (You can always use the other hand for a swig) ;)

"Gimp" according to my dictionary, means "limp or limping gait or walk."

It kind of is a slang term for someone with a bad arm or leg.

My roomie is aces, isn't he?

Sorry about your accident. I hope you have worker's compensation insurance. Nothing like being out of work, eating and watching TV, while collecting a check. :)

Oh yes, I know that well. When I was in kindergarten, my classroom had a real log stump, and we'd pound nails into it until it was full of nails...Once, I was at the stump, pounding away, and I hit my finger, and it swelled up!

Needless to say, I don't think they have a log stump in that room anymore...I was in kindergarten in '91, so that was 13 years ago when it happened.

How are you feeling now?

Pretty good, thanks you for asking.

My finger isn't quite as purple as it was over the weekend, but it is still swollen, numb and very stiff. I can barely bend it at the middle knuckle. My index finger is still a bit stiff as well, but it's getting better.

I guess I'll have to wait and see what the orthopedic doc says on Wednesday.

Until then, I'll be on the couch if anyone needs me.

I think I'll have a "Family Guy" marathon this morning...
;)

Yes, but can you name the actress who did the original voice of Meg?

Hint: She also had a show on FOX...

Best cartoon ever. I really should go out and buy the DVD. I heard they were gonna start doing new shows again, too.

Well folks looks like I'll be trolling the boards during the day for a little while longer...

I went to an orthopedic specialist this afternoon and after filling out about 80 forms the Doctor checked the Xrays and concluded that my finger was indeed broken.

After I gave the Doc his "No Sh*t Sherlock" award, he gave me a snazzy new splint and told me to come back in three weeks.

Looks like I'm back on workman's comp.

If anybody needs me, I'll be at the bar.

;)

here's a pic of my snazzy new finger split:
