It'll be the latter part of the month, either the 20th or the 27th, I've seen both dates mentionted on a couple of different sites.

This just in from TVshowsondvd.com:

"Soap - The Complete 2nd Season is on-=the-way, scheduled for a July 20th street date. Look for more comedy from TV's most dysfunctional family: Two sisters, Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell, and their families have all sorts of problems including sarcastic butlers, a war hero who's still living in 1940s wartime, and Mary's second husband, who once thought he could make himself invisible and was abducted by aliens.

The price is just $29.95 SRP for this 3-DVD set, which has a running time of 566 minutes. Look for several supplements to make it to this release:

Making-Of Featurette: "The Creators Come Clean"
Bonus Episode: The Season 1 Pilot
Previews of other Columbia-TriStar releases"

BTW, does anyone know anything about the Season1 Pilot? I am assuming that this may have been an unaired pilot? Can anyone confirm?

Great news about season 2, but I, too, was wondering about the original pilot. I've never heard of it, but I can only assume it never aired. If anyone knows anything about it, let us know!

I don't think there ever was an unaired pilot for SOAP. Looking at the menu screen it says "Encore Bonus Episode: Season One Pilot." So, it seems it's just episode one. Strange they would have that again, they could have added bloopers or something instead.

Why would they include an episode that was on the first set?
Are you sure it's not an unseen pilot?

Regardless, I'm buying season 2, just as I bought season 1.

I'll try to find out, but just read what it says on the menu screen.

I did a bit of research, and it appears that the original pilot was a one-hour episode that was cut into two later on, so perhaps the "encore" will be the full pilot in its original one-hour form.

As well, according to an interview with Susan Harris done at the Museum of TV and Radio, Cathryn Damon was the third or fourth Mary, and the pilot had been shot with a different actress in the role. When Cathryn was hired, she retaped the Mary scenes, and the new takes were inserted into the already-filmed pilot. So, perhaps the pilot will include the pre-Cathryn Mary.

Apparently there was an early review of the show in Newsweek, quite a while before the premiere. With this review, there was a cast photo that included the actress who initially played Mary in the pilot. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to get this photo...

Wow!! I'm buying this season!!! It's what I like to peg as "the green baby" episode - with the demon baby in this season!!! Those continuing episodes are a childhood memory... these episodes with the baby scared me when Iwas younger!!! Now I get to own them on DVD!! Jippi!!! I'm sooo exicted!!!!!!!!!!

"Soap" is a show I have watched on-and-off growing up. I've seen almost all the episodes sporadically. Nonetheless, this is THE season I've been waiting for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Two More “Must-Have” Classic TV Comedies Arrive on Three-Disc DVD Sets July 20

ALL IN THE FAMILY:The Complete Third Season
FROM LEGENDARY TV PRODUCER NORMAN LEAR

SOAP: The Complete Second Season
THE CLASSIC EMMY® AWARD-WINNING TV SITCOM STARRING
BILLY CRYSTAL, ROBERT GUILLAUME, KATHRYN HELMOND & RICHARD MULLIGAN

Culver City, CA – July 20th marks the date that two of television’s most dysfunctional, yet beloved, families continue their “seasons” on DVD from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. The new installments of these controversial, groundbreaking and very funny sitcoms are All in the Family: The Complete Third Season and Soap: The Complete Second Season, debuting as three-disc DVD sets, each at the collectible price of $29.95 SLP. Orders are due June 17.

Nominated for an amazing 48 Emmy® Awards and taking home 20 trophies with multiple wins for all of the lead characters as well as three wins for Outstanding Comedy during the course of its remarkable eight-year run, All in the Family is the 1970s comedy best known for the show's central character, Archie Bunker (played by Carroll O’Connor), a working-class family man with bigoted and conservative world views. Archie single-handedly helped the series blow the lid off every sitcom formula that preceded it.

All in the Family was produced by television pioneer Norman Lear (“One Day at a Time,” “Sanford and Son,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons”). Other Bunker family members included Archie’s long-suffering but loving wife Edith (Jean Stapleton); "little girl" Gloria (Sally Struthers) and her liberal husband "Meathead" Mike (Rob Reiner). Together they produced some of television's biggest laughs with their foibles and prejudices.

The 1973 season won the Emmy® and Golden Globe® for Outstanding Comedy Series with the heartbreaking "Gloria, the Victim" and the shocking "The Bunkers & the Swingers" (1973 Emmy® winner for Writing in a Comedy Series).

In this latest installment of episodes, All in the Family: The Complete Third Season continues to sizzle with a flawless ensemble cast, precision timing and lasting political relevance.

DVD details Include:

• Three-Disc Set Contains Complete Third Season (24 Episodes)
• Full Screen Presentations
• Audio: English
• Episode Selections
• Interactive Menus
• Bonus Previews

Soap, the ultimate parody of soap opera melodrama which was created by Susan Harris (TV’s “Golden Girls,” “Benson” and “Love, American Style”) and produced by Paul Junger Witt (Three Kings, Mixed Nuts, Dead Poets Society; multiple hit TV series), caused a nationwide furor when it premiered with its edgy, politically incorrect jokes. It went on to win four Emmys® (including three for acting in subsequent seasons), one Golden Globe® and was nominated for more than 13 awards over the course of its network TV run. Starring Robert Guillaume (later the star of “Soap” spin-off “Benson”), Kathryn Helmond (“Who’s The Boss?”) and Robert Mulligan (“Empty Nest”), the series featured the acting debut of young stand-up comic Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally, Analyze This) as TV’s first openly gay character.

This second outrageous season continues the saga of the wealthy Tates and working-class Campbells. Comedian John Byner joins Cathryn Damon, Robert Mandan, Diana Canova and Jimmy Baio for 23 more episodes of inspired zaniness. Nominated for three Emmy® awards, Guillaume won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1973.

DVD Details Include:

• Three-Disc Set Contains Complete Second Season (22 episodes)
• Audio: English
• Featurette: The Makers Come Clean
• Encore Bonus Episode: Season One Pilot
• Bonus Previews

I have reviewed the set, and it is indeed episode one on this set and not an alternate. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/soapseason2dvdreview.html

Meaning not an hour-long version like someone suggested earlier? The same exact episode that appears on the season one disc?

Yes, same EXACT pilot from season one. What a waste of space. Other than that, season two's set is slightly better than season one's.

Agreed, it makes no sense that they'd do something like that, but regardless, it'll be mine on release day.

Are the second season episodes all uncut? There were a handful of season one episodes which had the cut syndicated version instead of the uncut version.

I didn't notice anything missing. What episodes from season one were edited?

a couple of musical numbers were cut out of spisodes, and certain scenes (i.e. Jessica posing for her mug shot) were cut down.

BTW- did I miss something with the Season 1 set? There was no booklet/episode guide in my DVD set! :( I got mine from amazon.com.

according to someone in the SoapFans Yahoo group:

Episode 2
* Cuts Jody singing "There's Nothing Like a Dame," and The Godfather humming his song at the end ofthe sauna scene

Episode 16
2 minutes, 20 seconds shorter on DVD
* DVD opening is portrait one, 14 seconds shorter than Columbia House tape]
* Cuts Bob singing "I Talk to the Trees" (but keeps Chuck talling Bob to be quiet)
* 11 seconds of scene with William Daniels, where Mary's describing Randolph running off with Corinne's mother
* 1 minute, 42 seconds of Mary/Jessica discussion, before Burt enters kitchen to get J's hair sample

Episode 17
2 minutes, 10 seconds shorter
* DVD opening is portrait, 14 seconds shorter than tape
* 52 seconds of Jessica posing for mug shots
* 60 seconds of Elaine sitting in her father's lap, talking to him
* 5 seconds of Howard Hessman talking to Jessica in jail

SoapLuver

of Soap that I recorded off of Comedy Central. Episode 16 didn't have extra mugging-for-the-camera by Jessica- maybe some of these were edited for broadcast, and not for the COlumbia House videos?

So what was the bonus feature "The Creator's Come Clean" about? Was it interviews, or what?

It's basically the producers Witt/Thomas/Harris talking about working on the show, and you see various clips from different episodes. How come you don't have it yet?

How long is the bonus feature? I will be getting it shortly. I recently purchased the entire series from Columbia House on eBay, which I know doesn't help DVD sales any. But I do plan on getting it very shortly. Do you know if the featurette was recent? I am surprised that Harris is on this, since she usually stays in the background.

It says copyright 2004, so I assume it's recent. The feature is around 20 minutes long. They talk alot about the various characters on the show.
