View Full Version : Call in Sick MonarC 04-23-2004, 10:05 PM How often do you call in sick to work. Or stay home from school? Even though you might not be sick. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-23-2004, 10:08 PM I never stay home from school...ever...I did a lot last year because of depression issues and being afraid to go to school, but I'm fine now. Even if I feel crappy I'll go, but I'm usually fine anyway. Plus, it's too hard to miss school. Tuesday Weld 04-23-2004, 10:10 PM When I was in school, I hardly ever called in sick. :p Michael [hXc] 04-23-2004, 10:34 PM I only ever miss school when I am really sick. It is hard to catch up with the work and I miss my friends, so it is worth going even when I am a little sick. Brian 04-23-2004, 10:43 PM I never like having to miss school. I've been pretty good about being in class the past few years. In 11th grade I didn't miss a single day of the school year. The next year I missed a few days. The first one or two because I was on vacation and I missed another for the same reason. I missed another day because I got sick and I missed the last day of school for a good reason: it was the day after Grad Nite. The only day of college I missed was because I was really ill. It was in November. PZelda 04-23-2004, 11:00 PM Whenever I can get away with it. :lookaroun Just kidding! I haven't missed school this month, though. :D When I was in high school, I was pretty good about not missing school...I did have to miss the occasional day of school for other reasons. My senior year was CRAZY. Absolutely CRAZY. May was just crazy. I had an appointment one day during the school day where I had to go to Grand Forks (the same town Dru Sjodin disappeared from). The drive there is 90 minutes long, and the appointment was ALL day. After I was done, I crammed in some shopping at the mall there and by the time I got home, it was about 7 at night (I'd left at 7 in the morning). The same week, I had ANOTHER appointment that took up half the day. THEN I had to miss two more days because of my senior trip to Minneapolis. And the whole last week of school up to my graduation was INSANE. I had to be done w/ finals early so then I wouldn't have to come in on the scheduled time, because I would be too busy. AND, in December (this is still my senior year we're talking about), I missed TWO FREAKING WEEKS OF SCHOOL because I got VERY sick. As in near-death ill. I didn't think I was going to make it, because I had nausea EVERY DAY for 14 straight days and I had ZERO energy -- it was such a chore just walking 20 feet to the bathroom alone! I would be out of breath by the time I got to the bathroom...then I had to walk back and lay down...Ugh. I lost 10 pounds when I got sick because I was barely eating anything. :( THAT was the sickest I've EVER been and I hope I never get that sick again. Yep, you guessed it -- I was making up homework well through the finals in January!! Not fun! Hollow 04-23-2004, 11:19 PM i fake sick when i really want to go home. it's really easy. i just go to the office and say im feeling sick so they write me a pass and i go home. i used to go through all this trouble making myself pale and making my forehead hot but all i really have to do is say i feel nauseus or something. vienna waits 04-23-2004, 11:34 PM I've had perfect attendance this year :D boo yah. Krisalicious 04-23-2004, 11:45 PM Originally posted by Idol Fanatic I've had perfect attendance this year :D boo yah. Same here. Last year though, I got this really bad virus and was sick for a whole week. I couldn't imagine doing that this year- there's just too much work I'd have to make up. Brent88 04-23-2004, 11:45 PM School sucks. :grr: My parents used to let me skip occasionally. Maybe once every 9 weeks, then maybe 1 or 2 doctor/dentist appointments as well(Oh god, I HATED the Dentist and Orthodonist), had to go to Ortho every 6 weeks to get my :censored: braces tightened. I'm so glad to have them things off now. dawsongirl 04-23-2004, 11:52 PM In college...I skipped wayyyyy too much. At work...not often. I had senioritis SO bad, it wasn't funny. passionsfan79 04-24-2004, 12:32 AM only once so far i called in to work sick. because i could hardly talk i had larungitest. but we ended up not having work that day because of a snow storm sara 04-24-2004, 12:56 AM I only call in sick to work when I'm really sick, but I did fake being sick when I was at school. dandelion wine 04-24-2004, 01:05 AM When I was in school, I faked a few times. Now that I'm working, it's a rare thing. Chelsea 04-24-2004, 01:19 AM During the 2nd grading term (Oct-Dec), I missed a grand total of 9 (IIRC) out of the first 15 days of school (Stomach problems). Not fun. Cashodeen 04-24-2004, 01:24 AM I remember my attendence in 12th grade exactly. I missed a total of 31 days out of 180. Pretty bad huh? I tended to miss more than most all through grade school. But it was never a big deal at all--it seemed like I was there a lot, and I never got behind. In college I have done pretty bad too, but it doesn't affect my grades because I guess I have had classes so far where attendence isn't a huge issue. Maybe that's why I don't get a job--I know I'd want to skip a lot! Cashodeen 04-24-2004, 01:28 AM Originally posted by Krisalicious Same here. I don't think there was ever a year in my life that I didn't miss a whole week because of a virus or infection. Except the past two years, *knock one wood* I haven't done that because I haven't gotten sick. (Maybe I am finally get healthier. Yay.) Once I had a virus and missed a whole year. dawsongirl 04-24-2004, 01:39 AM Originally posted by Seth Thrasher During the 2nd grading term (Oct-Dec), I missed a grand total of 9 (IIRC) out of the first 15 days of school (Stomach problems). In college I got into the habbit big time... but I'm better now. Mostly ;) MonarC 04-25-2004, 05:55 PM That's good to hear Robyrob. :) I use to skip school a lot my Jr. year in High School too. I really hated the people I went to school with. Nanny Fine 04-25-2004, 06:04 PM Never ever ever do I call off work. First of all, I love my job. I love being there, love what I do and usually can't wait to get there every day. Second of all, I'm a single parent. If I'm not at work making money we can't survive. That's the grown up responsibility thing. TJL 04-25-2004, 06:07 PM I really try not to call in sick from work. I have a limited number of sick/personal days per year and I try to space them out. Sometimes, I will play hooky from work (like the day after St. Patty's day - boy was I a mess) but I will only do that if there's nothing important going on that day. I feel a little guilty whenever I play hooky, since I do work for my brother and I feel bad when I call him up and do the whole raspy voice cough cough near death bold face lie thing. ;) MonarC 04-25-2004, 06:11 PM  yeah I try to do that cough cough raspy voice thing too. Like they really buy it. TJL 04-25-2004, 06:15 PM Originally posted by MonarC  yeah I try to do that cough cough raspy voice thing too. Like they really buy it. Actually, I've called my co-worker's voicemail a few times from whatever bar I'm in, and just tell him flat out that there's no way I'm going to make it in tomorrow. Luckily, he never tells my brother I couldn't make it in because I was drunk. He does however play back my messages to his wife for thier own amusement. ;) MonarC 04-25-2004, 06:19 PM    that's hilarious. Polniaczek033 04-25-2004, 08:04 PM Ha.
