You turned the channel?

Apparently now you are a holy roller.

So some of your favorite sitcom characters get drunk.
So what?
It's a comedic device first of all.

Secondly, it lends itself to let main characters say things they would never say otherwise.

And besides third of all, you've got to be kidding me Solomon, that you have not been drunk within the last 2 years.

The way you post, man, you better have.

two of the best drunken portrayals of their characters had to have come from friends...

in TOW Ross Finds Out.... Jennifer Aniston's Rachel gets drunk and tells her true feelings to Ross . It is comical when she talks on the phone to him an how she gets the guys cell phone when she is drunk and the poor guy on his date with rachel.

TOW Ross is Fine... David Schwimmer's comical yet sad portrayal as he invites Rachel and Joey over to his apt to show that he is fine with them dating each other. It takes him a while but he realizes that he can't deal with this development and becomes even sadder.

Archie trapped in the cellar drinking the Polish vodka was a CLASSIC!

Also, anytime Dick Van Dyke would play a drunk (in skits and the hypnotist episode).

Carlton the Doorman on Rhoda

The time Margaret got drunk and Trapper and Hawkeye had to sober her up quickly - she did it really well!

and not in a sitcom, but the best drunk portrayal HAD to be Foster Brooks!

I just seen the ep with Archie being drunk and it wasn't too bad. I guess it was because he wasn't falling around.

I think I know what you mean about how drunks can be portrayed. But yeah, the ones I've all liked don't ham it up and play it more for real. That one with Arch was just hilarious imo!

Also, being the daughter of an alcoholic, I don't usually find it amusing (especially for real), but some of the portrayals have been pretty fun - as long as it isn't "forced".

Which reminds me, Rebecca played it pretty funny when she skipped out on her wedding to Colcord. You can just picture how much she must have "stunk" with the booze and cigarettes and then coming on to Sam like she was.

What's wrong with Taxi and The Odd Couple? Both have been in syndication for years. The Odd Couple for decades on channel 11 until seinfeld came along.

There's nothing wrong with either one. Don't let TV Show Analyzer get to you. He tends to get "opinion" mixed up with "undisputable fact". He seems to think that if he likes/dislikes something, then everyone else has to feel the same way.

I agree with you one hundred percent. I loved it when Jack was drunk in A Night not to Remember. It is one of my favorite episodes.

I also liked the All in the Family episode where Archie was trapped in the cellar.

which Lucy gets tipsy from drinking too much "Vitameatavegimin") is a classic
episode of a classic show.

I think I liked it because it was something different to see. You normally wouldn't see Jack act like that, but I think he did a good job at it. That's just my opinion. But then again I like everything John Ritter does.

drunk episodes are usually hilarous.

the who's the boss? and boy meets world ones were, and a few other shows i've seen.

the WTB? one was especially funny because angela was so...meticilous and exact, and proper, or whatever, and all and you wouldn't expect to see her like that.

I strongly feel that no one can pretend to be drunk which is why I never saw the humor when watching drunk scenes. Drunk scenes are impossible to do.

Even if they're not acting convincingly drunk to you, they're at least acting in a way that is associated with drunkenness, so you're able to make the connection that, "Hey, this character is drunk." I don't see the big deal.

The important thing is that it´s for a good cause, and that they do it convincingly (is that a word? I might be drunk now..)

Sometimes a character has something to confess (like Rachel´s in love with Ross. -You´re over me? When were you..under me??) it´s more natural to do it drunk, since that´s the way it often turns out in real life (In Sweden, anyway :) )

I don't think many actors play drunk well.
Now if they had to act like they were on cocaine they might do better, for some reason.;)

I think it has something to do with me not wanting to be around people who are drunk most of my life so to see someone like that on TV Makes me just turn the channel
