Here is my quesion, WAS THE WALTER CHARACTER THAT IMPORTANT TO SHOW? I mean could the show have still gone on without him?

That's the samething I was thinking He was defintely replaceable.

I think so too. Maude was so strong. However I think the viewers would notice if he had left. I remember one of my acquaintences guest starring on one ep back in 74', Ralph Wilcox who played Francie Potter's boyfriend trying to run away from home.

I liked a lot of the characters on the show but they were all replaceable except Bea Arthur.

I guess we can add that Florida was not replaceable like Maude. Why couldn;t the other maids replace Florida? I never seen a episode with the other maids

You never saw a episode with Mrs. Naugatuck. She was fantastic!!

Why wasn't she better than Florida

I think Walter was the second most important character on the show, but he was still replaceable.

I liked Mrs. Nugatuck. She was great, IMO.

But i always hear that none of the other maids were better than Florida. Do you feel that way?

I liked the Bill Macy character, especially when he would get upset, but I think he WAS replaceable. Did anyone catch any episodes with the last maid, I never saw any of them. How was she as a character?:)

Ms. Naughgutuck was okay, but she was NO Florida. Florida and Maude seemed to have a special relationship and played off each other well. IMO

Mrs. Naugatuck was an Old Druken Weirdo-lol

Doesn't surprise me. I remember seeing him on THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW, and he came across as REALLLLLLY egotistical.
He did nothing but toot his own horn the entire time he was seated next to Merv. It was so very offensive that it stayed with me all these years.

How was she as a character?:) I remember seeing episodes with the last maid years ago.Her name was Victoria Butterfield and she was black like Florida.I don't remember too much of her personality.The most I remember of Victoria,was when her and Maude first met on a subway train.They somehow broke into a song called"Big Mouth Woman On A Subway Train".Then Victoria had stolen something from Maude.Later in the episode,Victoria showed up at Maude's front door.When Maude asked her how she knew where she lived,Victoria's reply was something like"I looked in the phone book under big mouth woman".Other than that,I believe Victoria came along during what turned out to be the show's last season.I suppose that would partly explain why she was the least remembered out of the three maids Maude had over the course of the series.She even had a maid in Washington,who might have been played by Edna Volz,the same actress who played Phillip Drummond's second maid Adelaide on Different Strokes.

Except for Maude, were they all replaceable? Sure.

Would I replace any of them? No.
