View Full Version : This settles it - I'm getting a Game Boy Advance AKA 03-31-2004, 11:29 PM http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=5c9f6ab8-fba9-4252-91cb-dea9feaaf918&page=systemGBA Dutabi84 03-31-2004, 11:34 PM Legend of Zelda..you gotta like that. I wouldn't get it unless they sold SNES classics like FF3, too. PZelda 03-31-2004, 11:38 PM I already have a GBA, but I am SOOOOOOOOO getting the SP (I have the regular one) and I am SOOOOOOOO getting the games! :faint: I GREW up with those games. *gets misty-eyed* Hollow 03-31-2004, 11:40 PM i got a gameboy advance 2 years ago but one time my brother put it in his pocket while it was on he was wrestling with his friend and they broke it.. the screen froze and the scene that was on there is still on there now. so when you try to play a game with it, it plays but the screen doesnt do anything. meh. so he got another one last summer. i want a gameboy advance SP though, they look really cool. AKA 03-31-2004, 11:44 PM I bought one in 2001, but I sold it because it was hard to see the screen (this is before they came out with the backlit ones). PZelda 03-31-2004, 11:46 PM Originally posted by AKA I bought one in 2001, but I sold it because it was hard to see the screen (this is before they came out with the backlit ones). That's the same way I feel about my GBA...It's all good, though. I have an e-Reader for it and a GBA cable so I can hook it up for certain features on my Animal Crossing game for my GameCube. I wonder if both would work with a SP... Brian 04-01-2004, 01:59 AM I have a Game Boy Advance SP. It's the blue one. I've read all about this at IGN.com. I think I might get a couple of those games. If I had known they would make a GBA SP that was the color of the old NES, then I would have waited. Brian 04-01-2004, 02:01 AM Originally posted by Dutabi84 Legend of Zelda..you gotta like that. I wouldn't get it unless they sold SNES classics like FF3, too. It would sort of be a problem though because unlike the NES, the SNES controller has 4 buttons while the NES had just 2. This would sort of conflict with some games because a number of SNES games required more than the two buttons. They have that for the GBA, and it's really confusing because the "X" and "Y" buttons are missing, so that has resulted in some pretty screwed up gameplay. :o ConservativeBalla 04-01-2004, 09:39 AM Originally posted by Brian I have a Game Boy Advance SP. It's the blue one. That's the kind I have. I wanted a silver, but the store was out and I wanted one THEN before they ran out again, so I just settled for it, and I've grown partial to it rather than the silver ones now. I love Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, 3, Super Mario World 1 and 2, those are the games I'm collecting for it. I only have two though, lol; Super Mario World 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. They're re-named "Super Mario Advance 3" and ". . . 4" on GBA though. I'm hoping "Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars" is ported to GBA; I'd buy that in a second. AHHHHHHH! :faint: I LOVED that game. This is just IMO, though. If they brought it out to GBA, I'd get a Game Boy Player (for the GameCube) and play it from there...The gameplay would be better that way. Again, JMO. :) PZelda 04-01-2004, 12:04 PM I don't really like the way the people in the article are trying to talk like we're back in the 80's. And as for "the 80's were, like, a long time ago,", well...1980 was 24 years ago (yeah, it DOES seem like a long time ago), but 1989 was only 15 years ago...Hardly that long ago. :p Sorry...had to vent a bit there...I've been a 80's junkie WAY long before the 80's craze started in 2002...And it just gets me a little peeved sometimes. But it's all good. Just as long as they're bringing back the NES games again, that's cool with me. :D I LOOOOOOOVE the design of the GBA SP...it's so cool. :D Dutabi84 04-01-2004, 12:07 PM Originally posted by Brian It would sort of be a problem though because unlike the NES, the SNES controller has 4 buttons while the NES had just 2. Thank goodness for emulators :) Blair_Warner02 04-01-2004, 12:52 PM I'll be getting the Mario one I already have Zelda from the collectors edition on Gamecube but maybe I'll buy it for my Gameboy anyway. FamilyTiesGOP 04-01-2004, 03:26 PM I was brought up on Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and the original Game Boy. I have gotten out of it now though, but maybe I should consider getting back in since all the old stuff is coming back. Nintendo 64 was the last Nintendo system I had and never played it very much. I'm such an 80s junkie anyway. I am glad all of this stuff is coming back. My all time favorite gaming systems were the original NES and Super Nintendo. I just didn't like Nintendo 64. Maybe I should get a Game Cube. FamilyTiesGOP 04-01-2004, 03:33 PM Originally posted by Miss Vicki I LOOOOOOOVE the design of the GBA SP...it's so cool. :D It really is cool. Just like the original. I was a junior in HS in the fall of 2001, and I remember a couple of kids in my world studies class that year used to play them in class. Brian 04-01-2004, 09:12 PM http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/503/503361p1.html In a move that surprises no one, Nintendo will unleash another limited edition Game Boy Advance SP system. And much like the upcoming NES Game Boy Advance SP system set for release on June 7th, this system is aimed at the half dozen or so people who remember another Nintendo videogame system released in the early 90s. The Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP system will be released to coincide with the Virtual Boy's ninth anniversary since its US launch and miserable death in the US. The system will best mimic the original system's red-on-top, black-on-bottom color design. Similar to if Nintendo grafted a Flame SP top to an Onyx SP bottom. The Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP will also have the standard color LCD removed, in favor of a specially produced front lit TFT LCD screen that can handle 256 shades of red. Every game produced for the Game Boy Advance will only play in red on the Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP system, accurately portraying the graphics capability of the Virtual Boy system. Nintendo will also release the Classic Virtual Boy collection for the Game Boy Advance on specially manufactured Red and Black GBA cartridges. The games will play as if they were on the Virtual Boy system, without the need to shove your face into a goofy looking visor. The 3D effect can only be emulated with two copies of the game, two systems, a link cable, and the ability to cross your eyes as if looking at one of those Magic Eye paintings that were the rage in the 90s. Even though the smallest GBA cartridge can hold multiple Virtual Boy games, the Classic Virtual Boy series will be packaged one game per cartridge at a retail price of ten dollars more than the standard GBA price, so as not to pollute the already flooded eBay resellers' market. "[The Virtual Boy] died before its time," said a Nintendo representative, who asked to remain anonymous due to the potential flogging he would receive if someone heard that he actually liked the Virtual Boy. "The system had so much to offer kids with fully developed eyesight over the age of seven. So many classics! Like....uh, Nester's Funky Bowling. And Red Alarm. Red hot sellers that broke the hundreds of copies mark back in 1995. Get it? Red hot?" The apocryphal Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance will launch for $199.99. It will quickly drop in price to $99.99, then $49.99, eventually hitting clearance aisles and outlet stores for $29.99 before disappearing into obscurity six months after its release. http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/virtualboysp_1_1080777092.jpg http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/vbsp_040104_033104_006.jpg Final Fantasy Tactics Advance http://pocketmedia.ign.com/pocket/image/vbsp_040104_033104_008.jpg Super Mario Bros. 3 More images can be found at the link at the top of this post. Holy crap. "Half dozen or so people"? Yeah right. I played the Virtual Boy stand all the time when they had it at Blockbuster 10 years ago. Good stuff. I hated the setup, though. FamilyTiesGOP 04-01-2004, 09:46 PM Originally posted by Miss Vicki  The GBA's been around since about early 2001. I grew up on Nintendo, too. I remember when the SNES's competitor was the Sega Genesis. I had never played one until last year, when I purchased one from a local Game Crazy. I love it as much as I love my Super Nintendo. Plus I get to play some games that were made exclusively for that system and not on the SNES. Brian 04-01-2004, 10:30 PM Here's an upcoming limited edtion GBA SP. It will be released with the 8 NES ports in June. Great collectors item but I'd rather get the Virtual Boy GBA SP. One of my VERY earliest memories would have to be circa 1987, watching my mom play Legend of Zelda. I remember watching her beat Ganon in Level 9, and I vividly remember the red tunic Link had to wear. :D It's hard to believe the first Zelda game came out 17 years ago (It came out in Japan 18 years ago, in 1986). I remember getting LTTP 12 years ago and how excited I was to get it. We got a Game Boy (the orig. one) in like 1990 or so...Link's Awakening came out in 1991, I think, so we got that when it came out 13 years ago...Holy cow. My brother STILL has the 2nd NES we got when the 1st one broke, and he has about 15-20 of our orig. games for it (I have a handful more that he didn't take with him when he moved away in 1999), and the battery inside the Zelda cartridge that saves your files STILL works 17 years later, and they usually have a 5-year lifespan, I heard. Yes...I'm a TRUE old-school gamer, down to playing the original old-school systems. :D PZelda 04-01-2004, 11:26 PM Originally posted by Brian Here's an upcoming limited edtion GBA SP. It will be released with the 8 NES ports in June. Great collectors item but I'd rather get the Virtual Boy GBA SP. You know what would have been even better? If the makers of GBA had modified the "Select" and "Start" buttons on the GBA to be pill-shaped, like they were on the orig. NES controller. http://www.playerschoicegames.com/docsfixapad1.JPG I just remembered....I have an original box that my 2nd NES came in...That box would have to be at least 13 or 14 years old, but it has a picture of some kids on the back that has to be at least 16-18 years old. PZelda 04-01-2004, 11:37 PM Sorry, AKA...Can you tell I love this thread. I don't know where to put this, so I figured since we're talking about old-school NES games, this was the perfect thread for it. With the popularity of Legend of Zelda in the late 80's, a bunch of Zelda merchandise came out...toys, figures, etc etc. Sometime along the line, a Zelda board game was released, and we got it when it first came out. I still have it - original game, everything. All the pieces are intact. The pieces inside are practically mint...everything's in great shape, except for the cover, which shows signs of having heavier board games sit on top of it, so it's kinda caved in a bit. I forgot about that board game until I saw this thread...So I went and found it...and took a picture. I looked all around the box, and it has a copyright date of 1988. Cool, eh? :D FamilyTiesGOP 04-01-2004, 11:42 PM Originally posted by safety pin and my brother just got a PS1 for his birthday but thats not nintendo so whatever. I know. I also had a Playstation I.
