Seeing that we have come to the 2000th thread of the 1980's rock and roll history thread, it's time to begin a new one. So much to cover--and we're only halfway through 1985!!

View Full Version : Rock and Roll HAIR-Story: The 80's!! ABlairican Pie 08-04-2004, 10:36 PM Seeing that we have come to the 2000th thread of the 1980's rock and roll history thread, it's time to begin a new one. So much to cover--and we're only halfway through 1985!! :bye: Steve M. 08-14-2004, 03:57 PM And here's the link (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116930&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) to part 2! :) Steve M. 09-20-2004, 10:35 PM More 1985 musical tidbits. . . . 1985 was a big year for classical music fans, for it marked the tercentary (three hundredth anniversary to you, bud!) of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach. http://www.americanbachsociety.org/images/bach.jpg Recordings of Bach's music were issued and reissued in massvie quantities, all on pristine compact discs, to provide the clarity and purity worthy of the classics. And yet, rock, that dirty, muddy, impure pop form, was making the CD its own medium of expression now. Who'da thunk it? Steve M. 09-20-2004, 10:53 PM Daryl Hall and John Oates had a spectacular run through 1985. They went on tour to promote their album Big Bam Boom (released the previous fall), played Live Aid in their hometown of Philadelphia with fellow Philadelphians and musical heroes Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of the Temptations (Daryl Hall's first group was called the Temptones), then played the Apollo Theatre in Harlem with Kendricks and Ruffin, which resulted in a live album. http://www.andymusic.de/hallandoates/bilder/liveattheapollo.jpg Their tour was sponsored by Pontiac, and the GM division gave Hall and Oates a Fiero each. The Fiero was Pontiac's exciting two-seat mid-engined sport coupe in the eighties! http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/143a.jpg (A Ponitac Fiero. . . in silver metallic! ) It doesn't get any better than this. . . .and it didn't! Though no one could have known it in 1985, the popularity of both Hall and Oates and the Pontiac Fiero would fade by the end of the decade. And while Hall and Oates would survive the eighties, the Fiero wouldn't. GM made Pontiac discontinue the car after the 1988 model year. (Chevrolet had to be at the bottom of this! ) Steve M. 09-23-2004, 11:16 PM And NOW to the new thread! :D |
