View Full Version : Comet's Excellent Adventure
tgc225 03-24-2004, 10:43 PM Well, I just watched Comet's Excellent Adventure. I'm digitally recording it when it comes on Nick@Nite in about a week, but today, I still tried to determine the locations as much as possible. Here's what I could come up with. When I refer to intros, I'm talking about the season 8 intro.
Scene 1: The area where Michelle loses the dog, where Stephanie meets up with Michelle, the scene where the car drives away, and the scene where Comet meets the other dog appears to be around Alta Plaza Park in Pacific Heights.
Scene 2: The little wooden outlook, where DJ breaks up with Nelson, and where Becky's introduction takes place, appears to be in some part along El Camino Del Mar Road in Lincoln Park. The twins' intro might be in this area as well.
Scene 3: The place where Michelle calls from to Joey is clearly the Hyatt Hotel, on Sutter and Stockton. It looks like when the group gets out of the limo after driving, they are near this area as well.
Scene 4: The chase for Comet definitely leads to Lombard Street. This, of course, is where Danny's intro takes place.
Scene 5: The Coit Tower area is where Jesse and Joey look for Comet.
Scene 6: Aquatic Park, near the Fisherman's Wharf Pier. This is where the "Wake Up San Francisco" is done in the show. I've been to this area a few times, and I've noticed that many other locations were shot here.
Michelle is having her portrait painted in that area, Stephanie has her walk across the beach there (I believe the boat in the background is called the C.A. Thayer), as well as Joey's entrace, Kimmy's entrace, and the scene where the three men jump off the fence with all the boards in the background.
I'll see if I can snap up some of these locations during Spring Break. Another thing I'm looking to add to my website is a map of San Francisco, with markers marking all the real places mentioned during the show, as well where all the locations were filmed.
For example, the Smash Club was mentioned to be on Green Street in "Smash Club: the Next Generation", which is an actual street in San Francisco.
musicradio77 03-24-2004, 11:07 PM I haven't seen it yet. I will watch this episode on ABC Family on my DVR after I'm watching "The Price Is Right". How do you like this picture of Mary-Kate (Ashley) & Comet in "Comet's Excellent Adventure"? This picture was big enough to fit. I can shortened this picture to make it look better.
tgc225 03-24-2004, 11:20 PM Where did you get that photo? That's amazing quality. Looks like it was a still shot during the the video recording that was done there. By looking at that photo, it appears I was wrong for scene #1. It might actually be Alamo Park instead of Alta Plaza park. I'll have to see the show again and visit those locations to be sure though.
EDIT: Actually, I'm not quite sure either way. I'm trying to figure out where that apartment building is. It looks kind of like the big apartment building at Alamo Square, but not exactly.
I'm actually very curious to find out what block Michelle is standing on.

You should go to this link:

They might have pictures from that one during the taping of an episode called "Comet's Excellent Adventure".
musicradio77 03-27-2004, 12:42 AM tgc225, I was watching that episode and played it many times in that the scene that they were a car to search for the dog Comet in which he was on the top of the Coit Tower with his Lassie looking dog. Here are these pictures from that episode I found off of PBase website:
http://www.pbase.com/image/24882964/medium.jpg
This is the scene where an old Volkswagon Beetle drove down Lombard St. Here it is:

These are just 2 pictures I found from PBase. I'll try to find more later. :)
tgc225 03-27-2004, 11:39 PM Cool :)
By the way, did anyone notice a few strange occurances during this show?
1) Why was Stephanie outside looking for Michelle in the first play? That scene made it look like Stephanie just went outside for her own reason and randomly bumped into Michelle. It was just kind of strange.
2) Michelle says that she's not allowed to cross the street by herself, yet she appears to be on a block that completely contains a park. That means she must have crossed a street to be where she was.
3) How did Michelle and Stephanie find DJ and Nelson? And how did they do it so quickly, too?
tgc225 03-28-2004, 12:14 AM Oh, by the way, I just discovered another scene. I digitally recorded the season eight introduction during the last marathon, and I've been analyzing each scene.
I focused on Stephanie's intro, because that had a large boat in it. I remembered seeing that area where the boat was stationed. I had been in that area a few times before. Well, it turns out that the boat is parked on Hyde Street Pier. Here's a shot of the boat (not taken by me), named the Balclutha:
http://rootaction.net/~creel/sanpics/disk12/mvc-001x.jpg
Attached below is the screen capture from Full House. That means Jodie is walking through Aquatic Park. That also means if I look carefully at the screen capture, I should be able to find the exact location where she walked across the beach.
I'll take a photo of my own from the same angle as from the season eight introduction as soon as I can for comparisons.

Cool! I love the part she walked in wet foot and the words "Jodie Sweetin" appeared in the 8th season credits. I love that one. I've been to Auqatic Park since 1996 while my Mom and Bob was there while we were vacationing in California. I have the picture that was taken 8 years ago. Look for one on my thread called "Look What I Found, Pictures from San Francisco" and find out.
tgc225 03-28-2004, 01:41 AM Yeah, I liked that shot too.
Becky's with the backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge was a nice shot as well, though I haven't figured out from exactly what point that was shot yet. I assume it's the same place where DJ told Nelson they were breaking up.
Hopefully I'll have my own photos of those scenes too, possibly using an even better digital camera.
musicradio77 03-28-2004, 03:13 PM As I mentioned earlier, here is a screenshot of Jodie Sweetin smiling after she walks in the water in wet feet as the camera headed towards her. As you can see this picture, it does not have an ABC Family logo on the bottom right of the screen. This is courtesy of sweetin.com.

tgc225 03-28-2004, 11:07 PM Well, today I took a quick trip down to Fisherman's Wharf, and I was able to do some more spotting of the season eight introduction. I didn't have my digital camera however, since my parents are on vacation now and using it. I'll have photos sometime soon.
1) I now know the exact spot where Stephanie walks on the beach.
2) I know the exact spot where Joey is rollerskating
3) I know the approximate spot of where Michelle is getting a picture painted of her
Attached is the scene with Joey. I still need to find various other scenes (Becky's, Kimmy's, the twins', the shot of the pier with Alcatraz in the background in season one, the shot of the three men with the boats in the background, etc)
This has almost become like a murder mystery for me. It's fun to look at the screen caps from the show, and to find landmarks in those photos to help in finding the actual locations.
For example, see that circular pier in the background of the photo? I knew where that pier was located. That pier also appears for a second during the Michelle season eight spot.
ilovethe80s 03-28-2004, 11:10 PM Not to sound mean again but i thought that this episode was kind of bad in a way because didn't Uncle Jesse tell Michelle she couldn't walk Comet by herself and she went and did it anyway and then he ran away and she couldn't cross the street. I'm not sure if i am totally right here but i think that's what happened.
tgc225 03-28-2004, 11:14 PM I actually didn't think it was one of the greatest episodes either, but I really enjoy it because of it being set in San Francisco.
As for your question, Danny told Michelle she couldn't walk the dog, and it was Jesse's turn anyway. However, Jesse was busy talking on the phone, and Michelle tried to tell him to walk Comet. He didn't listen, and then just told Michelle to go and walk him.

I saw that vidcap where Joey was skating and the words "Dave Coulier" appears on the screen. That's cool.
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 12:13 AM I put pictures of the season 8 intro from my webcam. It appears to be a pier in which the artist painted Michelle. By the way, how do you like my avatar of the Olsen Twins' season 8 intro I made?
tgc225 04-03-2004, 12:35 AM Nice :) I made a little diagram of the locations. Now all I have left to do is take photos. It really takes careful observation of the images, and those piers in the background of those intro scenes is what tipped me off. Though I am suprirsed I was able to find the locations myself.
Many other entraces appear to be set in that area (especially Kimmy's, because you can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the background from an angle consistent with where Aquatic Park is located), but I still haven't been able to figure out the general location.
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 12:37 AM Oh, by the way! This is the picture of Kimmy, Stephanie, DJ and Michelle was shown during the taping of an episode called "Comet's Excellent Adventure".:) In that case, it was from the Trenchcoatwins Website. Although the picture was too big, I decided to shrink it again to make it look better.:D
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 12:44 AM Don't forget, tgc225. The episode "Comet's Excellent Adventure" will be seen on "Full House" this Monday on Nick at Nite. Don't forget to record and get some snapshots from the show. I have the same episode on tape since I copied off of ABC Family about 2 weeks ago.:) I saw that map of Hyde St. Pier which was used during the 8th season intro with Joey, Stephanie, Kimmy and Michelle. Here is an aerial view of Hyde St. Pier that was taken from the PBase website.
http://www.pbase.com/image/24080060/large.jpg
tgc225 04-03-2004, 12:47 AM Yep, I'm recording it digitally on that day. I have the season eight introduction digitally recorded from earlier. What I hope to do is have season 1 and 8 comparison screen captures for all of the characters.
Anyway, as soon as I record Comet's Excellent Adventure, I'll analyze the tape and then I'll go out the next day for a day of photographing all the new locations I've discovered since my original shooting, and I'll probably re-shoot some of the original locations.
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 12:50 AM Did you see the aerial view of Hyde Street Pier? I edited this post.:D
tgc225 04-03-2004, 01:01 AM Awesome! I'd love to see more ariel views if you can find any. If you look in the lower left corner, you can see the historic boats on thei pier. The one closes to the corner is the one you see in Jodie's background.
See that big thin breakwater pier that runs along the bottom of the photo? At the part closest to the right, you see it has a little circular area. That's the background of Michelle's intro.
The big ciruclar pier in the absolute lower right corner is the pier you see in Joey's entrance.
Now, I said I'd like to see more ariel photos if possible, because I'm having trouble tracking down the attached area. That's clearly Alcatraz in the background, but I walked along the pier area and couldn't find one that looked in that angle at Alcatraz, at least not any public ones.
The same pier in my attached photo is the one you see in most episode closers, where Steph, DJ, and Danny are fishing, however, it is done from a different angle.
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 02:13 PM Nice picture of Stephanie, DJ and Danny fishing in the pier in the extended season 1 intro. The PBase site has a picture of Pier 39, the one that was originally used for this intro for seasons 1 and 8.
http://www.pbase.com/image/20313315.jpg
tgc225 04-03-2004, 04:04 PM Yeah, it seems to be somewhere around Pier 39, though I just can't figure out exactly where.
musicradio77 04-03-2004, 10:39 PM tgc225, here is the sign that says "Fisherman's Wharf of San Francisco". That might be used for the extended season 1 intro.
http://www.pbase.com/image/17199409/medium.jpg
tgc225 04-03-2004, 10:42 PM Yep, that's in the extended intro :) I saw that sign and I know exactly where it is :)
musicradio77 04-05-2004, 09:02 PM Nick at Nite is showing an episode called "Comet's Excellent Adventure". Are you digitally record it, tgc225?:)
tgc225 04-06-2004, 03:45 PM Yep, got it recorded. Only problem is that I didn't get any sound and the image came out a little dark, but that's easy to fix with a gamma filter.
Anyway, in addition, I quickly took a trip to Fisherman's Wharf yesterday for just 30 minutes. I had a crappy digital camera I bought (going to return it too). It was the camera my parents took to London with them, and I forgot to transfer the photos to my computer, so I only had space for two photos. I pritned out scenes from Full House, and I tried framing shots and then taking a photo, and looking at the LCD screen to see how closely my photo matched the scene.
Anyway, in addition to framing, I also found the a few more locations from season eight. I watched Comet's Excellent Adventure this morning, and I was able to identify more locations. Michelle's and the various locations used to look for Comet shouldn't be too hard to find. I found a few more scenes which I should have photos of soon :) It's easier to show photos that write :D
Anyway, I'm probably going to purchase the digital camera that I used originally for the five photos I've posted already (I used a borrowed camera for my original photos). That camera is the Canon S400, an excellent camera that is really small and takes great quality photos. If you can afford it, I really recommend it! Anyway, I hope to have the pictures soon.

I will also try to have additional photos, instead of just one from the show and one of mine. I'll probably have a few a day to prevent spiking in bandwidth.
musicradio77 04-06-2004, 09:15 PM For those of you been watching last night's episode, here is a picture of a San Francisco cable car headed towards steep hill. This was from a postcard that my consioler, Pat Dean lend me since I was at work.:D
musicradio77 04-09-2004, 01:49 PM tgc225, how do you like this picture of a San Francisco cable car? I found this picture from one of San Francisco postcards that Pat Dean lend me a few days ago.:)
tgc225 04-09-2004, 02:18 PM Nice photos :) I actually watched the history of Cable Cars and the history of the Golden Gate Bridge, and both were very interesting programs.
musicradio77 04-09-2004, 06:19 PM If you enjoyed watching the episode on "Full House" called "Comet's Excellent Adventure", tgc225, here are some screencaps from that episode as shown on both Nick at Nite and ABC Family.

You're welcome.:D I hope tgc225 would like this movie. I'm watching that movie on my DVR. It's was on my local UPN in New York probably WWOR, channel 9. While you're in the San Francisco/Bay Area tgc225, they couldn't show "Homeward Bound II" on TV.:( When is the same movie are schedule to be on some local stations in San Francisco?:) If the movie comes on soon, you'll have to digitally record this movie. Thanks!:D
G-Force Glockstar 05-08-2004, 10:21 PM But why's there a police officer after them in one of those pictures?
EmoJoe 05-09-2004, 01:14 PM In this picture Andrea Barber is on the Hyde Street Pier. This looks like where Joey is roller skating in the 8th season opening credits.
tgc225 05-09-2004, 01:18 PM ^
Not Hyde Steet Pier, but very close, it's in Aquatic Park just next to Hyde Street Pier .
In fact, she is just standing about 10 feet to the left of where Joey was skating up the path.
I've found most locations now. I will take photos soon. It's just that I've been busy with school and I really need a full day or two of shooting to snap everything. Once school is over, I'll do all the shooting, maybe I'll try to sneak in a few photos here and there as teasers which I can take during my breaks in school.

I know that you are right. Tgc225, did you look at the pictures from the movie "Homeward Bound II"? I saw it yesterday on my local UPN, WWOR-TV. That movie looked similar to an episode called "Comet's Excellent Adventure".:)
