I know you guys probably don't care, but still I'm excited: I'll be seeing Prince live in concert when he comes to Madison Square Garden later this year. I just purchased tickets for the show online a few minutes ago. I've only seen him once before at MSG, so I'm looking forward to seeing him perform again. It had better be a good show too, for the prices I paid. :faint:

That is great news! And I envy you getting to go. I won't be able to go when he comes to L.A. because of not having enough money. I know he will put on a great show! Have a good time! I wish I were going too!

Thanks. I know what you mean. I'm embarrassed to say how much the tix cost. I realize it's been a while since I've been to a concert, but if these prices are the norm nowadays...

vashti1999, every once in awhile we all deserve to splurge on ourselves, don't worry about the price. Enjoy the concert!

I noticed Prince has expanded the tour! It's on Billboard.com in the news section. I kinda wanna go, hopefulyl I can scrape up $65 and see the man. Bowie sold out before I had the chance to get a ticket and there's no way in Hell I'm paying $500 to see Madonna, so Prince is definately THE tour for 2004 for me

Is that the top price for a Madonna ticket? I thought I read somewhere they go as low as around $40. It has been a long time since I've been to a concert. $40 used to be the high price.

HEY!! I CARE!! Because I'm going to see him, too on April 26th in Tampa. I paid $125 for 2 tix. I'm not complaining, though. Yeah, a little pricey but it's Prince who I've never been able to see live before. What gets me is the astronomical service charges--3.50 facility charge, 22.80 for convenience charge! It's ridiculous! One good thing is that he playing in the round though. That's always cool. I can't wait. Have a good time at your show, too, vashti!!

Thanks Undercover angel. Congrats phoebe7165, hope you enjoy the show too. I tell you it must be something about Madison Square Garden and NYC because $125 is a bargain compared to the price of my pair, but it might have something to do with my seats being on the floor, close to the stage. I won't see him till July, so you'll have to give a review after your concert. Enjoy it!

I've got less than two weeks now 'til I see Prince at MSG here in NYC on July 12, and it looks like it'll be an emotional show. It'll be the first concert performed after this unfortunate postponement, reported on a South Carolina based news site:

John Blackwell Jr. was in Columbia, South Carolina back in April, jamming at his alma mater Keenan High School before his concert with Prince. Then a month later, the Columbia native held his daughter Jia as he accepted the key to the city.

The drummer's worst nightmare came true Sunday at his home in California. His 27-month-old daughter wandered into the family's backyard and fell into the family's pool.

Blackwell's fans from New York to Germany have wasted no time flocking to his web site to offer their condolences. In a statement from Blackwell on Tuesday: "This is so hard...she was my baby girl...we want everyone in Columbia to know that we appreciate their thoughts and prayers...please keep praying for us."

Prince has rescheduled four shows at Chicago's Allstate Arena due to a death. Last night's (June 28) performance has been moved to July 22, while tonight's show will now be held July 23. Tomorrow's concert will be made-up on July 24. A show scrapped last Saturday will be held Aug. 3.

Tickets for the postponed shows will be honored on the new dates. Refunds are also available at points of purchase. Prince's Musicology tour will resume July 12 with the first of three shows at New York's Madison Square Garden.

If you would like to send flowers:

Higgins Chapel
1310 A Street
Antioch, California 94509
The phone number is (925) 757-4343.

Little Jia will be laid to rest Saturday at 10:00am.

vashti1999 I know alot of people who have seen the show and they say it was really good. I talked with a woman in a dept. store a couple of weeks ago and she was playing his CD at the counter and she said she had gone to the show, and that Sheila E. was a surprise guest and that he was excellent, so it will be worth the money. Have a great time!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to it. I'm expecting something special that night seeing how it'll be the first NYC show, I figure Prince'll have some surprise planned. I just know I'll part with even more money because I'll want the t-shirt, the calendar, the coffee mug, the keychain and whatever other junk they'll be selling at the concert.

AKA, you were right. Last night was finally the night I've been waiting for. There are no words to express how great the show was. The best thing was that I had great seats, fourth row. I was close enough to count the sparkles on his high heeled boots. Even if you guys aren't Prince fanatics and just enjoy some of his songs, you'd love that show. If he's coming to your town and you have the opportunity to see him, don't hesitate. It was just so much fun. 2 and a half hours. He didn't do any splits but still danced like he always did. It was hit after hit, he only did two songs from Musicology, which was surprising. But it was like a big party, my voice is hoarse from screaming and my palms red from clapping my hands so much. I got some of the purple streamers that dropped from the ceiling when he performed "Let's Go Crazy." He did two of my favorites that I wasn't expecting, "DMSR" and "7" and both were highlights of the show. Actually, the whole show was a highlight. I didn't want to leave. It turns out there's another show in the area that wasn't sold out, so I just bought tickets and I'm going to see him again next Tuesday at Nassau Colisseum.

Thanks Dr Jazz and rvsockz74. No Jazz, it was just Prince, no opening acts. The 7:30 show started promptly at 8:15. Though there was room to move, the stage wasn't that big, so I'm not surprised the Time didn't open for him. There were no special guests, but that was alright with me, Prince alone was enough to satisfy me. I did just read in the paper today that Morris Day is touring with Teena Marie and Rick James, surprising seeing how Rick and Prince were notorious rivals.

Thanks Jrnygrl. I'm looking forward to seeing him again, although this time I'll be in the nosebleed seats. I just had to experience the show one more time. Here's a good review from the New York Times on the show I saw last night:

Prince Invests Sweat Equity to Repay His Fans' Loyalty
By JON PARELES

Prince has his platinum albums, his loyal fans, a membership in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and genuine respect from a younger generation of performers. On the tour named after his latest million-selling album, "Musicology" (Paisley Park/Columbia), which started a three-night stand at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Prince goes after one more distinction: he wants the mantle of the hardest-working man in show business.

In an era of pop stars who can do one or two things moderately well - singing, rapping, writing songs, playing instruments, dancing, staging a spectacle - Prince does them all. He's as versatile and indefatigable as a classic vaudeville trouper, and he has such outsize charisma that he can make his audience shout with just a flick of his hips.

Prince is a changed man, one whose religious convictions make an unlikely match with songs about love and lust. The stage, at the center of the arena, was shaped like a crucifix, and Prince changed some of his old lyrics. In "I Feel for You," the song he wrote for Chaka Khan, "physically attracted" became "spiritually attracted." But that didn't stop him from seducing the entire sold-out crowd.

His two-and-a-half-hour set was a funky dance party above all. For the final stretch before the encores, women from the audience filled the stage, and Prince and his band wandered between them, sometimes joining them for a few steps. His band socks out funk that's as crisp as the best James Brown, the original hardest-working man in show business; it includes Maceo Parker, Mr. Brown's longtime saxophonist, who at one point appeared in a collegiate cap and gown while Prince called him "the teacher."

But the concert was also about Prince reclaiming his place as a pop superstar. In the mid-1990's he broke from Warner Brothers Records to release music on his own schedule, and without major-label clout his music became more difficult to find on radio stations and in stores; it also grew more exploratory. "Musicology" is distributed (but not owned) by a major label, and it cuts back on experiments to remind fans what they were missing. As part of the ticket price, audience members were handed copies of the album when they entered.

Onstage Prince romped through hit after hit - "Little Red Corvette," "Kiss," "Purple Rain" - while fans realized they still knew every word. He also taunted the music business, mocking Warner Brothers and MTV and insisting, "Whatever you can't do alone ain't worth the fame." The concert was full of self-praise - "I wrote this while I was looking in the mirror," he joked during "Cream" - but Prince delivered it with a wink to let fans share the credit.

He earned the praise, whether he was singing sweet falsetto ballads or doing percussive screams, praising female charms or starkly depicting the AIDS crisis, playing solo on a purple acoustic guitar or leading the band in funk medleys rehearsed to the last rimshot. "Real music by real musicians!" he crowed, making hard work pay off in dancing feet and grateful fans.

It was the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island here in New York last night. Again, a great show put on by Prince. There's really no words to express how great a performance the man puts on. If I enjoyed this concert slightly less than last week's, it's because 1) I knew what to expect the second time around and 2) I didn't have nearly as great seats as I had last week. I was in the upper level, sitting next to people who obviously weren't as big Prince fans as I am. This crowd in general wasn't nearly as pumped up as the Madison Square Garden crowd. It helps when you're surrounded by people who are singing, dancing and clapping their hands as much as you are.

Aside from that, the show itself was great. There were a few nice changes from last week's show. Once again, it ended with "Purple Rain", which should really be considered among the great rock anthems. His performance of that song last night was truly an emotional experience and a perfect way to cap off his appearances in this area. I'm saying it again, if Prince comes to your town and you get a chance to see him, do it. This (Musicology) is definitely the tour to see and appreciate.
