View Full Version : How About Deleting All Posts That Are Not Related To The Topic!

Jenya

Okay. I'm seeing WAY too many posts that have absolutely nothing to do with the original topic- this includes those useless   :happyface  posts. These are extremely annoying. My suggestion is have them all deleted. This should stop any fights, and put an end to all the bickering.

How does everybody think about this?

PZelda

YES!!!!!!! PLEASE.

I'm going to start having to report posts from this point on...I am getting positively fed up with them, too.

You're right. these board are too cluttered there should be a clean up day by the moderators.

I agree, nothing more annoying than people posting stuff not related to the original topic.

Anyone see that new tv show Tripping the Rift?

TJ
03-11-2004, 12:22 PM
That would be pretty near darn impossible to do. Delete EVERY useless post? That would delete like 75% of the topics on here.
I think you would be asking too much of myself and Janice (and all other moderators) to monitor the boards that closely.

While I enjoy the boards, I don't have hours and hours of time to devote to them on a daily basis. I like doing other stuff.

We really need some self-moderation here. Moderators can't do it all you know.

I thought taking away the post counts would lessen the amount of useless posts, but it appears to have just the opposite effect.

We've really reached the point where the major troublemakers are just going to be banned outright. Enough is enough already.

That would be impossible, that would mean we'd have to delete every single one of EricIdleFan's posts, lol.

You make a good point about not being able to monitor every single thread, but there are certain people who just pop in and randomly and obliviously post useless junk. After awhile, I can understand that getting a little agitating. I politely asked one of these individuals (Ericidlefan)why she was doing that and she attacked me verbally, including pming me multiple times.

Yea, I try to be civil with her and point out what she should and shouldn't do, but all I ever get are insults about where I'm from and PMs.

But I aslo think that the posts mocking her (:happyface:p:wave:) are getting extremely annoying as well. There's been one person in particular (Not naming any names) who, in almost every topic where Eric is brought up, post it. We get the point, you're Eric. You don't need to prove your point 6379853409 times.

Seriously, I don't mind some off topic posts in that likening a discussion board to an actual verbal discussion, people can pick up a point in a conversation, relate it to something else (a different but similar situation) and have the topic of disussion go another route. I think there'd be twice as many useless threads if some of the ones we already have didn't stray slightly off topic once in a while. But I agree, EIF's type of off topic posts are an extreme that can be pretty irritating. By the way, no I haven't seen Tripping the Rift. :happyface  :happyface  :rotflmao:

Well I'm seeing too many threads being locked up, when they really don't have to be. The last thing I want to see when I start a legitimate topic thread, is seeing it locked up an hour later due to some silly fight. Ignore lists are a good idea, but they are still not solving the problem. There has to be a better way rather than locking up a decent topic thread all the time. :(

When a thread is locked, it's because nobody heeds my warnings to stop fighting. I usually issue a warning to stop the fighting, and when it continues and gets nasty, I have no choice but to lock the thread. Got any better ideas?

Can you point to a thread that was locked for no reason?

Greg's (Captain Ablairica) thread, Top 45 Oxymorons (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=102079), could've been easily edited. It only has 40 posts. However, it was locked. Meanwhile, Shelby's (EricIdleFan) News You Can Use (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95904&perpage=15&pagenumber=10) thread, was easily edited- but not Greg's. I wanted to contribute to Greg's thread yesterday, only to find it locked, and all the attack posts remaining. Why is that?

The reason is that the Oxymoron thread was 90% bashing while the News thread was easier to just edit. Some threads I close, some I edit. I'll tell you what. I'll reopen the Oxymoron thread and attach a warning.

We'll see how long it lasts.

Honestly Jenya, I don't have time to keep deleting posts. Often a thread spins so far out of control that it gets to the point of no return.

If I delete, they just post more trash, so I often have no choice but to close a thread. I hate closing them. I really do. It's the same violators over and over again too.

And yes, I would appreciate an extra set of eyes to allow me to diffuse things before a thread gets too ugly. Thanks. :)

I know where you're coming from, Janice. I just wish there was some way to restrict abusive posters to post on certain threads. Rig it so that they can only read certain threads, but not post on them. That way they can't ruin a whole thread for everybody else.

Quittting time at work! :woohoo: I better get outta here. I'll post on Greg's thread after supper when I get home. ;)

Sourbabie Don't know why TJ, Janice, or any other moderators let you and people like TV People and Safety Pin on this board because you three don't realize that people do have feelings and other people like to post stuff and all three of your all's problem is that you think what you three say is important but what other people say isn't. It is so, so, sad while the three of you make fun of people at not just their expense but yours.

Ok, not to be rude or anything, but to be singling out EricIdleFan in all these posts, it's making the problem worse, it's doing exactly what we want to stop. I'm not saying that I'm not annoyed by this, and some threads and posts posted by her are...out there...but I'm so sick of every topic being turned into a fight once she posts. I'm not defending anyone here, but wouldn't it be ironic if THIS thread was locked?

AHH! I remember the good ol days when a thread would be locked and it was a rare occasion...nowadays...EVERYTHING is a fight.

I'm annoyed with EricIdleFan's posts as much as the next person. But I find it even more annoying when people keep making fun of her and ragging on her. That is like 50% of the problem, if not more. I put her on my Ignore List a few weeks ago and it works for me. I find her posts pointless and I have no interest to read them so that is the main reason it works for me.

She's the one spamming threads and going off and insulting people for no reason at all, starting fights. and she insults me for not having a mom (which i found really offensive) and chris for being european. And we're supposed to just move on with life? Hell i dont think so.

I dont have her on my ignore list because for one thing, when i put someone on there it makes me curious what they said and i end up reading it. and she always talks about me, and not to mention she picks out random posts of mine and goes off at me for no reason.
