I agree with you on that; you are probably correct on the fact that one of the programming directors is a HUGE fan of this God Awful show...There is nothing amussing about The Cosby Show and the characters...In my opinion is was not of the worst sitcoms of the 1980's...Totally SUCKED....

I have not watched one episode of the cosby show in my collection because I never had to-LOL There were funny moments on the show but the way it's overplayed, u kind of get sick of it.
PS-did u get your that's my mama eps?

Heather987 03-09-2004, 02:27 AM Lets see should N@N be called Cosby @ Nite?
A show is only funny for so long before it gets old and I change the channel but no matter what channel I put it on TCS show seems to flooding the TV stations.
I mean how many times are we going to see the same show? Dont they have restrictions on how much air play a show gets?
Really I am suprised they have room for any show that was not produced/starred Cosby. It is really amazing that the schedule is not:
*All double takes
7 - 8:00 - Kids Say (Only ones hosted by Cosby)
8 - 9:00 - Fat Albert
9 -10:00 - I Spy
10- 11:00 - TCS
11 - Mid - Cosby
Mid - 1:00 - A Different World
1 - 2:00 - The Cosby Mysteries
2 - 3:00 - You Bet Your Life (He was the host)
3 - 4:00 - The Bill Cosby Show

Thats so mean.
And Im sure he will be VERY missed when he dies.
I know Ill miss him.... he's my hero.
His show is overplayed.... but to wish for him to die is sickening.
Im sure you'd feel bad if Michael J. Fox died (since I know you like Family Ties).... and you'd probably hate it if "I Love Lucy" fans said nobody will miss him because Family Ties took over I Love Lucy's timeslot.
Im not trying to say that The Cosby Show deserves to be on as much as it does (its a great show.... but COMON).... but Im sick of people bashing it.
Im sick of people bashing other shows altogether.
I used to bash "Friends" all the time.... but Ive gotten over it.
You should too.
barwars 03-10-2004, 02:11 PM about my last post.... it may sound like I dont like "Family Ties".... but thats definately not the case.
Its one of my favorite sitcoms of the 80s.... and all time.
Brent88 03-10-2004, 02:15 PM Bill Cosby is a great man. How can anyone wish death on him? I am not a fan of TCS, but that doesn't mean I want him to die. You really should chill out. We've been over this before, RATINGS keep a show on the air. That's the reason TCS is on so much. Family Ties didn't pull good ratings, therefore, it was moved to 5am and then taken off the air(on N@N).
Brian Damage 03-10-2004, 02:23 PM It's a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overplayed sitcom, but Bill Cosby the man is fine by me. He is funny, just not every night for three or four hours a day.
FamilyTiesGOP 03-10-2004, 04:40 PM This is no joke...
I was watching the All in the Family marathon last night when I saw a TV Land commercial. It explained that all the programmers were busy with the Awards, so they put some stupid programming intern in charge of programming and he is the one that came up with the mini-marathons. He also admitted that he likes the Cosby Show and borrowed it from N@N for a while.
I know this isn't true, but just thought it was funny since we bash TV Land and N@N programmers. Watch out for this commercial when you are watching TV Land!
Brent88 03-10-2004, 04:42 PM Oh my god. Are you serious? How pathetic. If they are too lazy to come up with some logical programming, they should just not do the Awards Show, OR, hire extra staff. How pathetic.

Well that is what the commercial said, but I doubt it is 100% serious. HOWEVER I do remember when the last episode of Seinfeld came on that TV Land went off the air and the message on the screen was like: Everyone here is watching Seinfeld.
And I am deadly serious!!

Bill was only funny when communicating with the male characters. Like he interactions with theo, his dad, other gueststars, ELVIN. But for some reason, when he talked to rudy, claire, vanessa, and all the other female characters, he WAS ALWAYS GOOFY.
Heather987 03-10-2004, 11:51 PM Well said Jen1989, not all opinions are the same and opinions dont have to be agreed upon to be voiced.

Geez, Brent88, and barwars88, I didn't mean I thought he should drop dead this minute. You two don't mind voicing your opinion, but gosh forbid someone disagree with you, or voice their opinion about something you disagree with.
Why is it that people don't seem to mind giving Family Ties a hard time, but the instant someone says something even remotely negative about TCS, people get SO upset, esp. you barwars88. That's not fair. What is so SPECIAL about TCS?
Did either of you ever stop to think that maybe I wasn't dead serious about wanting him to die?(no pun intended). Lastly, you're not perfect, so get a grip!
PS. Whether or not Bill Cosby is a "great man" is a matter of opinion. I don't think he is, and just because you think he is, doesn't mean everyone will agree with you.
I never said I was perfect.... and I never said people have to share my opinion.
In a thread like this, its perfectly fine for people to complain about TCS.... because thats what this thread is about.
But when you bring Cosby Bashing into threads that really have nothing to do with TCS (like the thread about the Brawny Paper Towels).... then it just gets irritating.
And like with the show.... we've all heard it before.
And Im just wondering.... who gives Family Ties a hard time?
I know I dont.
Brent88 03-11-2004, 05:44 PM Originally posted by Jen1989
The thread, that contained my post, about the paper towels was a joke. Though I really wouldn't want the hypathetical situation to appear on paper towels. It was just a joke. I guess because people were saying that Ted McGinely was on them. Which sounds funny. I don't know if there are actual paper towels that have his face on them though? So, I mentioned that I wouldn't want a certain person's face on paper towels. It wasn't meant to be taken personally.
As far as Family Ties....I am talking about when it was added to the Jan. schedule and people were so upset about it. A few people who really like I Love Lucy in particular. There was one person esp. and I can't remember their username that really gave Family Ties a hard time.
That was LucyFan. Didn't think 80s sitcoms should be on TV Land.
treky 03-12-2004, 03:22 AM has anyone ever thought to ask N@N why they show TCS so much? Instead of complaining about it?

According to Pavanbadal, he said it's because of the high ratings. I just don;t see how that can be if it's shown so much.

because people keep on saying the show was so bad, instead of merely saying that they think the show is just overplayed. It is going way too far when you actually try to say the show is cheesier and worse and unfunnier than Small Wonder, Full House and some of the other "really bad" 80's sitcoms.
You know you probably watched TCS in the 1980's... WHO DIDN'T? To say you're sick of the show is different than saying TCS is one of the worst shows of all time. You know it's really not and you're letting being sick of it take over your opinion

Yes!
Jen1989 and I had major war with LucyFan over TV Land and Family Ties, I remember!
Heather987 03-13-2004, 02:20 AM True for me I watched the show back in the 80's and as a "Kid" I enjoyed the show, but at this moment I have come to hate the show. I am not sick of it from overplay, I hate it from all the overplay. But I see all points, if you are a die hard fan you may think that its great its on all the freakin time, but for some of us it is very annoying and becomes a hate thing with having it on all the time.
I change the channel all the time cause I do not think I could make it a 1/2 hour watching TCS without screaming at the TV but it seems that no matter what I change the channel to that channel is bound to play TCS at some point. I just think that no matter how great a show is/was that too much of one thing is too much. I like Family Ties but I would not want to watch it for 4 or 5 hours a day, I would start to hate that also. I am starting to hate Roseanne, I missed it on the TBS run (most of it) but caught it when it started on N@N and I have realized that when I can tell you what an episode is from just the first scene or repeat lines, or even tell you the next episode just from a few words said that I have seen enough of the show. That is what happened with TCS and since I am an adult I now understand the things that I didnt back in the 80's when the show was on and dont find all the jokes that funny anymore.
Dean Winchester 03-13-2004, 03:53 AM Originally posted by Jen1989
I have the right to say it was one of the worst shows of the 1980's. Telling me that I can't is wrong. How do you know whether I really dislike the show or if I'm just sick of it? You're not me. If you like it fine, I don't have to. Full House and other 1980's shows were better than TCS. No one is going to like every single show. So, yes, there are and will be people who do not like, and even hate TCS, for different reasons, and they are entitled to disliking it, if they so choose. I don't see why some people love it so much. Aren't even die hard fans of TCS sick of it by now? Honestly, for a show that gets more air time than multiple shows put together.
well, did you enjoy TCS in the 80's and early 90's? Was it a show that when shown in moderation, you could enjoy? Most of the Cosby bashers in here are admitted former fans of the series. They just have gotten sick of the show.
Curiously, what about TCS (at least the first 3 seasons) was so bad in your opinion? I do think that the show did have a few golden seasons before it became crap, but those few seasons still hold up if you tune in after having not seen them in a while, just as long as you don't suffocate yourself with endless reruns.
TCS wouldn't make my personal top 10 (maybe the low teens in my top 20) but while I rarely watch reruns of the show, it's definately not something I would regard as a guilty pleasure or "bad tv", as opposed to something like Small Wonder that is a guilty pleasure all the way.
If you really didn't like Cosby even in 1986, then that's a whole different thing than being "I hate TCS because it's all Nick plays and they've treated shows I like better like garbage", which is the attitude prominently displayed in here. I hated the way Nick treated Facts Of Life, Family Ties and Three's Company, all of which I like better than TCS, but I still don't hate Cosby over it, it just makes Nick less interesting for me to watch.
Flash72 03-13-2004, 08:19 PM Like one of the previous posters, I also watched "Cosby Show" during its NBC run, more religiously in the early years. I can recall for a time in the mid 80's Cosbymania swept the nation. I know at my junior high the next day, following an episode, much of the talk concerned the previous night's episode. For the girls, it was whether Cockroach was cuter than Theo. It seemed everyone one turned at that time, there was "Cosby Show." Whether it was the cover of magazines, fitness videos featuring the Cosby kids, or the endless awards the show won, the ubiquitous Huxtables were sure to be present. I even remember my Home Ec class doing a play of one of the show's episodes; in case you are wondering, I played Russell Huxtable. It is funny how you can love a show at one time but due to overplay, you grow to abhor it.

Not to mention the local airings of TCS in addition to N@N/TVLAND. Enough to defintely lose interest in the show
I remember a few years ago, there was equal contempt on these boards for Cheers because its arrival on Nick At Nite was at the same time as The Facts Of Life's exit.
Some of these girls were vicious.

Dean Winchester 03-14-2004, 12:27 AM exactly, I think Cosby is more of a time capsule, those who DON'T remember how hot it was in the mid-late 80's are the ones who abhor the show with a passion, because they do not remember just how big the show really was. Cosby in 1986 was hotter than Friends, Raymond and American Idol combined today. I was only 7 when it was in it's peak, but I still remember it being a Thursday night ritual every week. I don't think you can ever find a more immaculate schedule than "Cosby/Family Ties/Cheers/Night Court" which was the NBC Thursday schedule at the time, even tho I would say that ABC's "Happy Days/Laverne And Shirley/Three's Company/Taxi" may have even been better

Because while I don't like the show, I do realize I am outnumbered by millions of people who DO.
You don't like Cheers or M*A*S*H? Good for you! But you should be old enough to figure that just because they don't appeal to you that it doesn't mean there aren't many other people out there who loved those shows. Apparently somebody out there likes those shows. I like a few shows out there that nobody else likes (anyone even remember VR. 5, Life With Roger or Just Say Julie?) yet while I may rather watch an old tape of VR.5 than watch an episode of Raymond, I do realize that the majority of America prefers the latter.

You are right. It's my opinion but i still feel it should be on 5am in the morning or on a network no one watches. People may like the show bu that doesn't change my feeling that the show is GARBAGE. But once again you are right, everyone is into different shows.
