Which theme song did you like better, the first season theme song, or the one they used for the rest of the seasons? I personally liked the original one best. Nice classical music!

I liked them both. But I must admit that the second one is easier to that dance she does when she comes out of the bottle in the opening sequence! :)

I like the second theme song better, because it's a lot more catchier and more tropical.;)

I think the 1st one is really charming and I think they wrote lyrics for it too if I'm not mistaken. I remember the opening in the first 1/2 of the first season tells the story of how Tony met Jeannie on the island. I think Mel Ferrer is the narrator. I could see why they dropped the original traditional sounding music when they went to clor to be more hip, but even though I haven't seen this show in a dog's age I can't get that original theme withthe big orchestra sound out of my head.:)

I chose the second. The first was boring...

I liked both and have the Jeannie CD that has both versions, and the themes from the reunion movies. Got them from ebay.

I like the first half of the first season the best, where the story is told in flashback of how Jeannie and Tony met.

I have to say the first one. ;)

I like the first one. It sounds more like a romantic comedy. (which was the intention of it). Sort of like one of those old Doris Day/Rock Hudson movies.

There were some to the 2nd theme.

Actually there are lyrics to the theme song, but they were never aired. I think that an IDOJ website has a sound file of the original theme song w/ lyrics. The lyrics were pretty good, but like the Bewitched theme song lyrics, they don't really add much to the story, unlike the way that Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch set up their basic ideas w/ their theme songs.

I know there are lyrics to the theme that were never sung; read my message: I said there were no lyrics to the FIRST theme (the theme that was in the black-and-white episodes).

That's the one sticking in my brain. I've been researching the IDoJ canon, stuff about Tony, Roger and Jeannie, for my Stargate SG-1/IDoJ crossover, and some sites play the theme song. Now I've got it going over and over and over in my head. Incessantly.

He sounds more like Paul Frees, who also narrated lots of scific and voiceovers, like a robot character and a reporter in War of the Worlds

I voted for #2. I think that one is more memorable, of course. At this moment (tired moment, lol) I'm trying to remember what the 1st sounded like! haha

:yeahthat

Yeah, I've seen the lyrics on an IDOJ fansite somewhere... but as jehobden has said above, the lyrics, while pretty good and quite cute, just -- there's something about it, but I can't pin it down (god, now I sound like Dr. Bellows ).

But whatever it is, I think IDOJ is better the way it is, with the theme music but without the lyrics, than it would be if the lyrics were sung along with the theme music. Don't get me wrong - I'm a fan of lyrics, for instance I love the Three's Company theme song lyrics - those lyrics really fit Company; but somehow the IDOJ lyrics just don't seem to go well with the episodes or the opening sequences.

I did vote for the original theme song  since I always thought that was, well, it sounded better and was more romantic, and gave you a more... relaxed feel. I guess the 'jazzing-up' of the lyrics starting in the second season was a harbinger of the future direction the series would take, of the changes that would come starting at the end of the second season...

I liked the second theme because it was used for more seasons. The first theme is ok too.

Can't wait for season 3 to come tomorrow!

It WAS Paul Frees, who was also the first season announcer for sponsor Liggett & Myers {"'I DREAM OF JEANNIE'...brought to you by....LARK- the filter cigarette, that tastes richly rewarding, uncommonly smooth...there is NOTHING like a Lark!"}. And I think Richard Wess' theme that season was more romantic and exuberant than Hugo Montenegro's. Sidney began using Montenegro's scores from the second half of season one because he was dissatisfied with Wess' music, and let his contract lapse. Then, Sheldon commissioned Hugo to write a new theme for season two...and the rest is history.

I prefer the theme from the first season, so it got my vote. The music is elegant, and it fits in with the mood and atmosphere from that first season of black and white episodes. Now when IDOJ changed to color episodes starting with the second season, I don't think the original theme would have fit very well anymore. The theme that was written and used for the color episodes fits in well with those episodes. So to put it in a nutshell, both themes served their purpose but when comparing them song for song, I like the original one better.

...for your kind words, treky'. I read a lot about TV facts and information, and have watched a lot of episodes to know what I speak of; there are some people who believe I'm a bit "overachieving" in providing such information to the point that I appear to be "know-it-all". I wish I did, but there are some things even I don't know about...yet. But I try to pass along what I know so people can understand what they're watching a little more and clear up any misconceptions they might have had.....yes, this is becoming a bit long-winded, so I'll "shut up" here.
