B&W fan 05-13-2004, 08:16 PM Both teams were fantastic, but I've got to go with Bud and Lou. I sincerely believe they were the greatest comedy duo of all time - bar none. B&W "don't get me wrong, I love L & H too, but Abbott & Costello are my childhood and adult favorites" fan ramuno 05-29-2004, 07:12 PM Laurel & Hardy were much more visual since they worked in the silent film era long before talkies. Abbott & Costello were in the style of other vaudville duos with their plays on words as well as their slaptick. TJL 05-29-2004, 08:33 PM Wow, tough call. I've seen every Abbott and Costello movie dozens of time when I was a kid, and they are great. Laurel and Hardy were a tremendous team though. Their verbal shtick was fantastic. They were also one of the few silent film comics who were able to improve their act with the advent of sound. XERO 09-11-2004, 08:34 AM IMO like comparing apples and oranges...can't be done...both temas were great, but specialized in two very different types of comedy. But and Lou were much smarter and more clever with the gags. Laurel and Hardy were more physical comedy and sometimes too slow developing. When both teams were at their best there was nothing funnier. Pitooey 03-03-2005, 10:07 PM I loved both teams. I loved Laurel and Hardy every Thanksgiving in The March of the wooden soldiers but I have to give it up for.......... Abbott and Costello. I just enjoyed them more when I was a younger gal. Gordon ~ Shirley 06-10-2005, 06:18 PM Well............I like them both but I think I like Bud and Lou better 'cause I just always adored them and they are terribly funny  !!!!!!!! http://www.worth1000.com/entries/61500/61701TaCY_w.jpg NWATNA 08-13-2005, 11:25 PM Abbott and Costello sbeamish 08-28-2005, 02:40 PM IMO like comparing apples and oranges...can't be done...both temas were great, but specialized in two very different types of comedy. I must agree. You really can't do a one on one (or two on two) comparison. But, while I love both teams, Laurel and Hardy will always be #1 to me. Lexx82 01-23-2006, 04:00 PM wow thats a bit of a tough one...but ima go with laurel & hardy because i just laughed more at that not to mention 1 of my fav memories as a kid was watching laurel & hardy with my grandfather LAUGHING OUR ASSES OFF!!!...that was my grandfather's fav show.....he got me into that....r.i.p manuel delgado tv star collector 01-23-2006, 07:29 PM Exactly. They were both great but for different reasons and different eras. In addition, I'd like to point out that (from what I have read) Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy had a more friendly relationship offscreen and that genuine fondness shines through even onscreen. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, from books like LOU'S ON FIRST by Chris Costello (Lou's daughter) I gather that the pair did not have a very harmonious partnership off camera. However, I should point out that Bud was grief-stricken by the news of Lou's death and acted as one of his pallbearers. jie3 03-17-2006, 01:41 AM I'd say they were both great, but for me A+C's on screen chemestry was unrivaled, especially considering their complex relationship. jie3 03-23-2006, 05:02 PM bump |
