while neither Bad or Dangerous came close to Thriller or Off The Wall, I think both cd's had enough good songs on each to save them from having bad raps. Now Invincible and HIStory (the "new" disc, not the GH disc) do have bad raps
Dean Winchester 03-03-2004, 04:57 PM I like Madonna's American Life cd, most people didn't.
I also loved Olivia Newton-John's Soul Kiss album from 1985, the album did so poorly it killed her career in the US, even tho the title track was a minor hit (even tho it should've been a smash)
Steve M. 03-03-2004, 05:11 PM Elton John - Victim of Love
Paul McCartney - Red Rose Speedway
Kiss - 1978 solo albums!

8.Just Be Free by Christina Aguilera
That's not even an official album, it was just a bunch of tracks Christina recorded for fun when she was 14/15. Someone found out that they had the rights to them, and released it under some obscure label, not RCA.

I don't see anything infamously bad about the album. I thought both Lennon and Ono were great on that record. Now Two Virgins or The Wedding Album definately.
Hollow 03-10-2004, 08:16 PM alot of people hate metallica's "st. anger" because it sounds different than the other albums. and "load" and "reload" because theyre hard rock. i dont care though, they all kick ass.

what about Press To Play for Paul? I do think "Press" was probably the best non-Tug Of War/Flowers In The Dirt song he did in the entire 1980's decade (a real shame it only peaked at #21 when crap like Spies Like Us went top 10), but the rest of the album was awful.
Dean Winchester 03-11-2004, 02:01 AM those that haven't been mentioned yet
David Bowie: Never Let Me Down
Prince: Come
Queen: Hot Space
Aerosmith: Rock In A Hard Place & Night In The Ruts
Guns N Roses: The Spaghetti Incident
Whitney Houston: Just Whitney
Mick Jagger: Primitive Cool (Let's Work has to be the most embarassing moment for ANY member of the R&RHOF and the video was even worse)
Culture Club: Waking Up With The House On Fire
SBTB Geek 03-11-2004, 03:00 AM BTW, how is Britney's Britney album infamous?

I agree with you. The album didn't duplicate the success of Baby One More Time or Oops I Did It Again, but I do think the album was successful enough, and it did help turn the tides audience-wise to Britney to where she is now. Turning her fanbase from 12 year old girls to making her an artist who more adults can be open about liking without feeling embarassed (think how many adults would be caught dead admitting they like Hilary Duff). She'll probably never move 13 million copies of one album again, but I think Britney definately opened the door to making it more "acceptable" for adults to like her.
Janice Johnson 03-11-2004, 10:10 AM The reason I said that "Britney" was infamous was because it got the worst reviews of all her albums.

Saying one Britney long player gets better reviews than antoher is like saying Ishtar is a better movie than Heaven's Gate. Anyway, Britney's third album didn't sell as well as first two, in part because fans did find it inferior to the others, and also it was released in the wake of 9/11, when no one was really comfortable with teen pop.

I disagree. As bad as teen pop really was, it was still a lot more bearable than a climate where 9 out of 10 songs in the top 10 feature a guest rapper. It's way too much. Give me the over sugary first 2 albums of Britney or pre-"mature" Justin singing I Want You Back over 90% of the stuff on the charts these days, and I can't stand early Britney.
Dean Winchester 03-12-2004, 04:48 PM Def Leppard - Adrenalize. The album did go to #1 and sold 5 million copies, but when you consider that the two albums that preceded it (Pyromania and Hysteria) are very much widely regarded as the 80's metal equivalents to Off The Wall and Thriller respectively, there was only one way to go for Def Lep, and that was down. Even tho the album has sold considerably better than their other albums since, the album is still regarded as a disapointment

David McGee, writing in the Rolling Stone Record Guide's second edition, actually gave Music From "The Elder" a good review, singling out Eric Carr's drumming and "World Without Heroes" as highlights. As for the solo albums, well, I covered that on another thread.
Sample lyric from Simmons's solo LP:
She's radioactive
She's radioactive
She's radioactive
And I gotta make her mine!

It's the soundtrack to the most infamous movie of all time!
"Beatles fans should be excused for wishing that when the Sex Pistols toured at the time this album was made, they came armed with guns, not guitars." Jimmy Guterman and Owen O'Donnell, from The Worst Rock and Roll Records of All Time
" the emptiest pop spectacle ever created." - Dave Marsh on the [I]Sgt. Pepper movie

I think Adrenalize was a very good album. It was no where as great as Pyromania and Hysteria, but it was still really good. "Let's Get Rocked", "White Lightning", "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)", "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad", and "I Wanna Touch U" were all great songs. Sadly though, over the past ten years Def Leppard have really hit rock bottom. Slang, Euphoria and X were all terrible albums. Those guys need to get back together with Mutt Lange.

Slang and X were atrocious, Euphoria did have it's moments, but even then it didn't compare to anything between 81-92. I agree that a Mutt/Lep reunion would rule

honestly believe that playing an artist like Britney Spears can increase your ability to play a game like Zuma. (It's a theory I'm testing out, do not ask.) Of the three albums I have heard from Britney (this, In the Zone, and Oops! I Did It Again), this is the most painful to listen to, despite producing efforts from the Neptunes on songs such as "I'm a Slave 4 U." (IMO, I like the beat, but Britney's singing is terrible on this track.) Of all the songs on this album (including that lovely end duet with Justin Timberlake), the songs triumphantly featured on the terrible movie "Crossroads" are the worst: my least favorite song, Britney's cover of "I Love Rock and Roll," had me longing for Joan Jett's more anarchic rendition (and remember, this song was not performed for a bunch of karaoke patrons like in the movie). If you want to start listening to Britney Spears, this is not the album to start with.
A bad review on amazon.com for "Britney"
Dean Winchester 04-28-2004, 10:41 AM well, no offense, but Amazon reviews aren't the be-all, end-all. I've read Beatles and David Bowie reviews (and I'm talking the classic albums too, not Beatles For Sale and Tonight) that still only got 1 or 2 stars on there from some reviewers. One person disliking an album doesn't give it a negative stigma. Because 72 out of over 1000 posters on Amazon gave Sgt. Pepper * star, and said "this is overrated, yadda yadda yadda" doesn't mean that Sgt. Pepper's suddenly NOT one of the best-loved albums of all time, just means some people dislike it. No artist is universally liked. Every single one of the "all time greatest artists" out there, you will be certain to find somebody who doesn't like them

A bad review on amazon.com for "Britney"
Janice Johnson 04-28-2004, 10:46 AM I got it directly based on reviews at Amazon.com. If the albums had a lot of 1 * 2* or even 3*, I put it on my list.

well, different strokes for different folks. No album is liked by everybody whose heard it. It's albums that when even the hardcore fans of an artist hate the album (like Madonna's American Life, Janet's All For You, Mariah's Glitter, David Bowie's Tonight, Prince's Come, MJ's Invincible, are examples) that IMO are infamous.

was it really infamous? Toni barely promoted it and it got zero airplay. Toni herself even called the albums a contract filler
Steve M. 05-12-2004, 08:32 PM Another infamous album was Paul McCartney's 1983 LP Pipes of Peace.
The music was wimpish, but the lyrics were what really brought down the album. Consider these priceless verses:
from the title song:
"I light a candle to our love / In love all problems disappear."
from "The Other Me":
"I know I was a crazy fool / For treating you the way I did / But something took a hold of me / And I acted like a dustbin lid." Acted like a what?
from "Keep Under Cover":
"What good is butter if you haven't got bread? / What good is art if it hurts your head?"
From "So Bad":
"There is a pain inside my heart."
From "Through Our Love:"
"Whenever you get some time / I'd like to roll it all / Up in a ball / And spend it with you." Up in a ball?
