I do not think of Anchor Bay as an edited for syndication company. Carsey-Werner is more at fault for giving them Roseanne and 3rd Rock like that. I think they will get unedited material for season 2 and on, at least they seem to be trying. Who knows what UrbanWorks will do for The Cosby Show's 2nd season, whenever that comes.

well, AB has done terribly in the past with music licensing as well. I remember reading so much music was edited out of 21 Jump Street that it even applied to the theme song. When AB does a title good though, they're fantastic.

whose doing Taxi for SO? I got my copy of it today and I think the first episode (Louie's Rival) is slightly edited, it's at least 90 seconds shorter than the rest of the episodes.

I was hoping that BV would do the cases similar to what they used for Popular, Felicity and other sets that were bigger than a slimcase but smaller than an amaray case that held 2 discs to a case.

I've never actually seen AAG, but I am a huge fan of Margaret Cho's (I have both of her autobiographies and all her live DVD's) so this DVD is essential to own IMO and I cannot wait to see what she's like in a conventional sitcom setting, especially a family sitcom considering her live act has the tendency to be quite raunchy

This episode was filmed on 16mm kinescope. It was never meant to be broadcast and was used as the audition show for CBS. It's in pretty good shape, honestly (except for of course debris all over the picture). The original title of the show was "You'll Never Get Rich" and you can see it used here.

* 1956 Emmy Awards Highlight (approx. 4:51 minutes)
A clip of the 1956 Emmy Awards. Phil Silvers won the award as Best Comedian, up against Art Carney, George Gobel, and Sid Caesar. The next clip shown was for Best Comedy Series, which of course, "You'll Never Get Rich" (The Phil Silvers Show) won, up against "The Jack Benny Show," "The Bob Cummings Show," "The Sid Caesar Show," "The George Gobel Show," and "Make Room For Daddy." The next category shown was Best Actor, Continuing Performance. Phil Silvers won again and was up against Bob Cummings, Jackie Gleason, Danny Thomas, and Robert Young.

Amazing! That's the best word to describe this release. Paramount has done an absolutely fantastic job with this release. It's a shame it's not a season set, but this is an awesome collection for fans to pick up. And since there isn't any word on season sets, I do encourage all the fans to go out and get this set! Its well worth it for the bonus features ALONE. I really cannot say enough about this set. Well done ... spectacular... you name it, that's what it is. Good job Paramount! This is MPI Home Video style and we all know they do a great job in the added value department!

One quick question for you, are the pilots for TaleSpin and Darkwing in their original movie form or multiple parts (4 parts for TaleSpin and 2 parts for Darkwing)? It should be the movie form. But DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale should be in the 5-part forms, and not the movie form. But we won't know about those until November, lol.

They are in part form, unfortunately... for TaleSpin it kinda works cause each episode ends at just the right point but in Darkwing it just seems like they ended it at a random point... All I know is out of the four released Darkwing is my least favorite, I don't know Im just not able to watch alot at a time like the others...

I'm a new poster, and this is my first post. It's a question about the Talespin and Darkwing Duck DVD's. Does anyone think some people will be upset that their pilots will not be in their original full-length form (like a lot of the TV shows on DVD that have series pilots in full-length form) and may end up sending e-mails to Disney? Or will they just grin and bear it? But even so, I'll buy it anyway, even though we won't hear the golden tones of Baloo (I know for a fact that in the 4-parter form of "TaleSpin" in part 4, "I'm Gone" is completely cut) or Sally Struthers (singing the lovely lullaby in part 2, which is also cut) or Darkwing's opening chase (with very different credits ala "A-Team") and the extended scenes (which haven't been seen in over 15 years) on the pilots, but as long as the rest of the episodes are not edited, that's okay. Again, Sony has many 2 hour and 1 hour episodes of their shows on DVDs in two-part form, so it's not new by any means, it's just unusual that the pilot episodes (which is usually shown in it's 2 hour form or 1-hour or 90 minute form and uncut on every sitcom, drama, adventure, action show, etc.) for two very popular Disney cartoons ended up being released (on the much anticipated DVDs) in edited part form.

Awesome! I was so glad to see your review of this, pavanbadal! Thanks especially for the in-depth look at the special features. I'm kind of iffy about buying the set at all, but it's good that you seem to be pleased with it. Someone else who got the DVDs early said there was no commentary from the actresses like there was in the S1 DVDs. So did they not speak in Juicy Bites? They just picked their juiciest scenes and didn't elaborate?

Any word on when I can expect a review of the :banana: MAMA'S FAMILY :banana: season 1 set? (YAY! Go Mama!)

I really, really, really hope the set isn't edited- Amazon lists 278 minutes (~21 mins/episode) and TSOD lists 338 minutes (26 mins/episode). I will hurt somebody if the episodes ARE edited. :cuss: I filled out a form on Warner Bros's customer service page of their website forever ago to ask about this, but I strongly doubt I'll be hearing from them, as I asked them that was 2-3 months ago. :(

Good job on the review. Now, when you reviewed "King Of Queens", on the first episode, it says (1) and (2), is this meaning that we're getting a split version of "Doug Less" (split for syndication reruns) on this DVD, or the original version and the DVD split it in two parts with no open on the second part? Or is there an open on both, and again (not surprised by Sony) we're getting a syndicated version of a two-parter (a norm for them) that was originally an hour?

We should be getting Mama's Family in the next few weeks.

We'll have to wait for Seth's reply about The King of Queens.

I think it's time to call Sony it's rightful name, "Cut-ny". It's unusual that it's being shown in cut part form from it's 2003 one-hour airing, that usually is the case with older Sony TV shows, but again, that's them and they figure that they don't want to put the masters with widescreen on the DVD. Oh, from your review, I heard that "Fresh Prince" Season 4's opener is a two-parter, is it possible also that could also be from syndication or are there more scenes in the two-parter version?

Roseanne S5 is coming soon, AB has sent it a bit late. We are trying for Get Smart, though that will be hard since it is a complete series set.

I'm bummed about Mama's Family. I'll still get it though since I haven't put on DVD any of the Season 1 episodes. I kinda think they should of packaged S1 and S2 together, like Facts of Life was.

SEE, I KNEW IT. TSOD had the runtime listed as something like 336 minutes (25+ mins/episode) but everywhere else was 278 minutes (~21 mins/episode). Nobody believed me when I said that there was a HUGE possibility of the episodes being edited.

**** WB. They can't even do their sitcoms right. :mad: I'm VERY disappointed... they couldn't even bother to include the PILOT to the series (the 1982 movie Eunice), and now they can't even bother to include episodes in their entireity. WHATEVER. I know a LOT of people who would like to see Eunice, because that's a popular-selling item on eBay, and it has not aired since CBS originally aired it as TV Movie of the Week in March of 1982.

Hopefully we finally get some substantial special features, even though they're only going to be interviews, again like season five.

I'm pretty sure they never gave one. Also I too hope that Season 6 isn't edited episodes. I have a feeling that Buena Vista wouldn't do that again. I can't wait to read the review for Season 6.

In the S6 review,most of the episode runtimes range from 23:22 to 23:57(for late 80s into the early 90s when more commercial time creeped in),so that should mean uncut episodes,IMO.
Episode 21,"Witness" runs a bit shorter at 22:49.

Ah! You guys must have quite the catalog. I should try to find a few French dubbed Sitcoms I worked on at Technicolor Laboratories, when I was living in Montreal last year for the TQS and TV5 channels and post them here. The Cosby Show and Sanford and Son were the funniest dubbed TV shows. :D
