What's meant to be displayed in the review is a bit of surprise at actually having something new/different to write about in that section. To actually answer the question: ELR S4's in Widescreen. The All-Caps "EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND SEASON 4 IS IN WIDESCREEN!" part in the review is the tip-off there http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif - as a rule of thumbs, if you see anything in a review by me in all capital letters, that's a part that - regardless of any clutter around it - is important. Pavan 08-31-2005, 12:00 AM I do not think of Anchor Bay as an edited for syndication company. Carsey-Werner is more at fault for giving them Roseanne and 3rd Rock like that. I think they will get unedited material for season 2 and on, at least they seem to be trying. Who knows what UrbanWorks will do for The Cosby Show's 2nd season, whenever that comes. Dean Winchester 08-31-2005, 03:21 AM I do not think of Anchor Bay as an edited for syndication company. Carsey-Werner is more at fault for giving them Roseanne and 3rd Rock like that. I think they will get unedited material for season 2 and on, at least they seem to be trying. Who knows what UrbanWorks will do for The Cosby Show's 2nd season, whenever that comes. well, AB has done terribly in the past with music licensing as well. I remember reading so much music was edited out of 21 Jump Street that it even applied to the theme song. When AB does a title good though, they're fantastic. Dean Winchester 09-01-2005, 07:56 PM whose doing Taxi for SO? I got my copy of it today and I think the first episode (Louie's Rival) is slightly edited, it's at least 90 seconds shorter than the rest of the episodes. TJ 09-03-2005, 12:57 AM Buffalo Bill - The Complete First and Second Seasons: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/buffalobillseasons1and2dvdreview.html I think TVJunkie is doing Taxi. I hate that. Everything else though seems like it'll be well worth the purchase on Tuesday. Thanks for the review. Dean Winchester 09-16-2005, 01:43 AM I was hoping that BV would do the cases similar to what they used for Popular, Felicity and other sets that were bigger than a slimcase but smaller than an amaray case that held 2 discs to a case. Pavan 01-22-2006, 01:35 AM All-American Girl - The Complete Series Review: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/allamericangirlthecompleteseriesdvdreview.html Dean Winchester 01-22-2006, 01:49 AM damn, you guys are ahead by a long shot, the review panel for CTVHits is messed up right now and there's programmers hopefully fixing it soon. But not just that, you've already got DS and AAG posted, I'm still waiting on my copies of the said shows  I've never actually seen AAG, but I am a huge fan of Margaret Cho's (I have both of her autobiographies and all her live DVD's) so this DVD is essential to own IMO and I cannot wait to see what she's like in a conventional sitcom setting, especially a family sitcom considering her live act has the tendency to be quite raunchy TJ 01-23-2006, 12:34 AM You guys are still doing reviews over at ClassicTVHits.com? I've only seen a few all month. It's too bad Stephen doesn't have the contacts that Pavan does. :) Archie Bunker's Place - The Complete First Season: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/archiebunkersplaceseason1dvdreview.html Dean Winchester 01-23-2006, 12:51 AM the system over there has been bugged, so Stephen has hired programmers to fix it. TJ 02-01-2006, 12:00 AM We may have a new program in the upcoming months that will allow users to submit their own DVD reviews. And then later (probably by next week) Dinosaurs, Scrubs, Raymond, It is going to be a busy May! And these reviews are mainly for May 2 and May 9 only! I can't wait for the review for "I Love Lucy" the complete sixth season! I've become a big Lucy fan thanks to the DVD's! Can't wait for the reviewers thoughts! Andy Griffith Show I have the first five seasons of "The Andy Griffith Show" in natural black and white and it's fantastic! Can't wait for season six in stunning COLOR!!! Raymond Haven't picked up season five yet but thrilled that six is coming in a matter of days! I picked up the first four seasons of "Everybody Loves Raymond" for my dad on his birthday. :) Here Come the Brides. Haven't seen that show I think since the 1970's on KCOP-TV Channel 13 in Los Angeles in syndication. Should be interesting. Surprising TV Land hasn't yet picked up on the series. Congratulations on the 300th review! Special Features: Audio Commentary: Audio commentary by Allan Melvin on "New Recruits." Commentary by George Kennedy on "The Court Martial." Commentary by Larry Storch and Mickey Freeman on "Doberman's Sister" and "Bilko Joins The Navy. And Commentary by Dick Van Dyke on "Hillbilly Whiz." Allan Melvin Episode Introductions: Before each episode starts, series regular Allan Melvin in an audio clip talks briefly about the episode. It's an awesome inclusion! He also tapes introductions to nearly every single special feature included! What a trooper! DISC 1 * Nick@Nite Promo Taping for Sgt. Bilko movie with Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman (approx. 3 minutes) An interview with Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd and the late Phil Hartman. They discuss their roles in the movie. * Phil Hartman NICK@NITE Episode Intros (approx. 2:13 minutes) Basically what it says. All of the intros Phil Hartman taped for a special three-day marathon of Sgt. Bilko episodes on Nick@Nite. * The Ed Sullivan Show Clip (approx. 8:39 minutes) This is just a clip of Phil Silver's appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." * Lost Audition Show (approx. 33 minutes) This episode was filmed on 16mm kinescope. It was never meant to be broadcast and was used as the audition show for CBS. It's in pretty good shape, honestly (except for of course debris all over the picture). The original title of the show was "You'll Never Get Rich" and you can see it used here. * 1956 Emmy Awards Highlight (approx. 4:51 minutes) A clip of the 1956 Emmy Awards. Phil Silvers won the award as Best Comedian, up against Art Carney, George Gobel, and Sid Caesar. The next clip shown was for Best Comedy Series, which of course, "You'll Never Get Rich" (The Phil Silvers Show) won, up against "The Jack Benny Show," "The Bob Cummings Show," "The Sid Caesar Show," "The George Gobel Show," and "Make Room For Daddy." The next category shown was Best Actor, Continuing Performance. Phil Silvers won again and was up against Bob Cummings, Jackie Gleason, Danny Thomas, and Robert Young. * Phil Silvers on The Dick Cavett Show (approx. 5:03 minutes) A clip of Phil Silvers (and Jack Benny) on "The Dick Cavett Show" which is shown in color. * Friars Stag Roast for Humphrey Bogart An audio only clip. A very fun piece! DISC 2 * Gag Still Photo courtesy of Mickey Freeman (Pvt. Zimmerman) Basically what it says, heh. * Original Network Opening (23 seconds) This is an original CBS network opening, with Camel cigarettes as it's sponsor. Obviously, for syndication, this was cut out. * Original Commercials (approx. 1:50 minutes) Basically, a commercial using characters and actors from BILKO to promote Camel cigarettes. * Tony Randall and Jack Klugman remember Sgt. Bilko on TV LAND (approx. 25 seconds) I believe this little spot featuring TV's "The Odd Couple" was aired in 2001 during TV Land's 5th anniversary marathon, which featured episodes of "The Phil Silvers Show." DISC 3 * 1957 Emmy Awards: Best Comedy Writing - Variety or Situation Comedy (approx. 2:27 minutes) Phil Silvers presents this award to - of course - The Phil Silvers Show! * The Cast on "Phil Silvers on Broadway" (approx. 7:15 minutes) A funny clip of the cast on Broadway, doing a skit within a skit, basically. * 1959 Pontiac Commercial (approx. 41 seconds) Phil Silvers appears in a commercial for the Pontiac vehicle. * The New Phil Silvers Show Promo: CBS 1963 Fall Preview (approx. 3:21 minutes) Phil Silvers appears in a promo spot to tease his new series "The New Phil Silvers Show" which debuted in the fall of 1963 on CBS. * Phil's Final TV Interview with Sonny Fox (approx. 5:06 minutes) The last TV interview by Phil Silvers, which was shot in Phil's home in 1985. * The Bilko Growl (audio) The Bilko Growl was Phil's last recording. The song was written by Phil's son-in-law Iren Koster, who also provides the lead vocal. A Very cool song! * Photo Gallery A still gallery of pictures. Final Comments: Amazing! That's the best word to describe this release. Paramount has done an absolutely fantastic job with this release. It's a shame it's not a season set, but this is an awesome collection for fans to pick up. And since there isn't any word on season sets, I do encourage all the fans to go out and get this set! Its well worth it for the bonus features ALONE. I really cannot say enough about this set. Well done ... spectacular... you name it, that's what it is. Good job Paramount! Hi Lola, and other fans waiting for the Housewives S2 review. Buena Vista has sent the set a bit later than they usually do, but I will have it Monday and I will work EXTRA hard to get the review up before the end of Monday, just in time for the street date on Tuesday. I will have to I guess also delay the mini reviews on the blog of Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin, as they also have not arrived. I might put them on the blog on Tuesday, so people don't have to wait until next Saturday to read the mini review. Coming tomorrow on the blog, a mini review of the Alvin & the Chipmunks Halloween set. troopoleon8897 08-25-2006, 07:25 PM Hi Lola, and other fans waiting for the Housewives S2 review. Pavan 08-26-2006, 12:39 AM One quick question for you, are the pilots for TaleSpin and Darkwing in their original movie form or multiple parts (4 parts for TaleSpin and 2 parts for Darkwing)? It should be the movie form. But DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale should be in the 5-part forms, and not the movie form. But we won't know about those until November, lol. troopoleon8897 08-26-2006, 08:31 AM One quick question for you, are the pilots for TaleSpin and Darkwing in their original movie form or multiple parts (4 parts for TaleSpin and 2 parts for Darkwing)? It should be the movie form. But DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale should be in the 5-part forms, and not the movie form. But we won't know about those until November, lol. They are in part form, unfortunately... for TaleSpin it kinda works cause each episode ends at just the right point but in Darkwing it just seems like they ended it at a random point... All I know is out of the four released Darkwing is my least favorite, I don't know Im just not able to watch alot at a time like the others... Pavan 08-26-2006, 10:11 AM That is not good, I'll have to compare when I get those DVDs, because the part form for both of those are edited versions on TV. While for DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale the part forms have more scenes. TJ 08-27-2006, 11:02 PM Arrested Development - Season Three: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/arresteddevelopmentseasonthreedvdreview.html Roseanne - Halloween Edition: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/roseannehalloweeneditiondvdreview.html Rocketman2004 08-28-2006, 09:45 PM That is not good, I'll have to compare when I get those DVDs, because the part form for both of those are edited versions on TV. While for DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale the part forms have more scenes. I'm a new poster, and this is my first post. It's a question about the Talespin and Darkwing Duck DVD's. Does anyone think some people will be upset that their pilots will not be in their original full-length form (like a lot of the TV shows on DVD that have series pilots in full-length form) and may end up sending e-mails to Disney? Or will they just grin and bear it? But even so, I'll buy it anyway, even though we won't hear the golden tones of Baloo (I know for a fact that in the 4-parter form of "TaleSpin" in part 4, "I'm Gone" is completely cut) or Sally Struthers (singing the lovely lullaby in part 2, which is also cut) or Darkwing's opening chase (with very different credits ala "A-Team") and the extended scenes (which haven't been seen in over 15 years) on the pilots, but as long as the rest of the episodes are not edited, that's okay. Again, Sony has many 2 hour and 1 hour episodes of their shows on DVDs in two-part form, so it's not new by any means, it's just unusual that the pilot episodes (which is usually shown in it's 2 hour form or 1-hour or 90 minute form and uncut on every sitcom, drama, adventure, action show, etc.) for two very popular Disney cartoons ended up being released (on the much anticipated DVDs) in edited part form. Edit: Whoops, didn't notice that TJ just mentioned Alf in the above post. My mistake... PZelda 09-06-2006, 01:05 AM Any word on when I can expect a review of the  MAMA'S FAMILY  season 1 set? (YAY! Go Mama!) I really, really, really hope the set isn't edited- Amazon lists 278 minutes (~21 mins/episode) and TSOD lists 338 minutes (26 mins/episode). I will hurt somebody if the episodes ARE edited. :cuss: I filled out a form on Warner Bros's customer service page of their website forever ago to ask about this, but I strongly doubt I'll be hearing from them, as I asked them that was 2-3 months ago. :( Rocketman2004 09-06-2006, 12:33 PM We still haven't received The Flintstones or ALF. The King of Queens - The Complete Sixth Season: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/thekingofqueensseason6dvdreview.html Good job on the review. Now, when you reviewed "King Of Queens", on the first episode, it says (1) and (2), is this meaning that we're getting a split version of "Doug Less" (split for syndication reruns) on this DVD, or the original version and the DVD split it in two parts with no open on the second part? Or is there an open on both, and again (not surprised by Sony) we're getting a syndicated version of a two-parter (a norm for them) that was originally an hour? TJ 09-07-2006, 01:04 AM We should be getting Mama's Family in the next few weeks. We'll have to wait for Seth's reply about The King of Queens. Everybody Loves Raymond - The Complete Seventh Season: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/everybodylovesraymondseason7dvdreview.html Chelsea 09-07-2006, 01:21 AM I have no idea how the episode is edited in syndication, as we can't pick up the station that airs KoQ in this market. On the DVD, both episodes have themes. You can see the runtimes in the review. Considering that we already know the aspect ratio is WRONG, I would honestly not be surprised if these WERE in fact syndication cuts. Again, with no syndication copies to compare to, I can't say for sure though. Rocketman2004 09-07-2006, 08:47 PM I have no idea how the episode is edited in syndication, as we can't pick up the station that airs KoQ in this market. On the DVD, both episodes have themes. Again, with no syndication copies to compare to, I can't say for sure though. I think it's time to call Sony it's rightful name, "Cut-ny". It's unusual that it's being shown in cut part form from it's 2003 one-hour airing, that usually is the case with older Sony TV shows, but again, that's them and they figure that they don't want to put the masters with widescreen on the DVD. Oh, from your review, I heard that "Fresh Prince" Season 4's opener is a two-parter, is it possible also that could also be from syndication or are there more scenes in the two-parter version? Chelsea 09-08-2006, 01:29 AM Fresh Prince I can't really help you with, as it's not one of my series. Pavan 09-20-2006, 05:34 PM Roseanne S5 is coming soon, AB has sent it a bit late. I still haven't gotten Roseanne S5. AB is usually pretty early sending their stuff out. I'm bummed about Mama's Family. I'll still get it though since I haven't put on DVD any of the Season 1 episodes. I kinda think they should of packaged S1 and S2 together, like Facts of Life was. TJ 09-23-2006, 01:19 AM The Flintstones - The Complete Sixth Season: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/theflintstonesseason6dvdreview.html PZelda 09-23-2006, 10:17 AM I have just learned that Mama's Family will be all edited episodes... Sorry Allison... SEE, I KNEW IT. TSOD had the runtime listed as something like 336 minutes (25+ mins/episode) but everywhere else was 278 minutes (~21 mins/episode). Nobody believed me when I said that there was a HUGE possibility of the episodes being edited. **** WB. They can't even do their sitcoms right. I'm VERY disappointed... they couldn't even bother to include the PILOT to the series (the 1982 movie Eunice), and now they can't even bother to include episodes in their entireity. WHATEVER. I know a LOT of people who would like to see Eunice, because that's a popular-selling item on eBay, and it has not aired since CBS originally aired it as TV Movie of the Week in March of 1982. In the S6 review, most of the episode runtimes range from 23:22 to 23:57(for late 80s into the early 90s when more commercial time creeped in),so that should mean uncut episodes,IMO. I should try to find a few French dubbed Sitcoms I worked on at Technicolor Laboratories, when I was living in Montreal last year for the TQS and TV5 channels and post them here. The Cosby Show and Sanford and Son were the funniest dubbed TV shows. :D |
