Okay, I'll tell you why I don't like Jo that much. She didn't show her emotions. I mean, only under pressure did she show them, and I hate when people do that.

------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

What do you mean she didn't show her emotions?! She was the only one who really showed her emotions. She was the most believable of all the characters. She might not have worn her emotions on her sleve, but she was very emotional. If any of the girls didn't show emotion it was Blair. She was such a fake.

yur right jo. but i like cuz she is tough.

LaverneShirley

yeah, right. she was not the only emotional person on the show. Neither was Blair. Did I say that I liked Blair? No, I didn't. It's just that I happen to show my emotions a lot (often unwillingly) and so does most everyone around here. And this is the only place I've ever lived, and we don't go on vacation much, so Jo is not very realistic to me. I mean, she refuses to admit what she's feeling sometimes. You all talk about how that episode where the go to New York is good because Jo said she worried about Blair. Well, when Blair asked about that, Jo wouldn't admit to it. I forget whether she did or not eventually, but at first she didn't and just gave that guy a mean look.

I don't think Jo is unrealistic at all. There are people who won't show emotion. I happen to be one of them. I never let anyone know if anything is bothering me, much like Jo. She hates to feel vulnerable, she always wants to be in control, so that's why she never shows her emotions. It's not uncommon, and it suits her character.

I think when it comes down to it, Jo will show emotion. I don't think she really likes to, but darn it, it just happens.

How can you say that Jo doesn't show any emotion? Sure, she may not walk around showing the whole world what she is feeling, but when something happens to her or someone she cares about, she DOES show emotion. Like in S5 when Natalie's father dies, Jo definitley showed how badly she felt for Nat. Or how upset she was when she found out that her former boyfriend Eddie was married and lied to her? She was crying, she may not have wanted the others to see her, but I am the same way. Not everyone likes other people to see them being vulnerable like that.

Oh God. Now I'm a scum for not liking a certain character?! For heaven's sake, I didn't mean to offend anybody. I was just raised around people who show emotion openly. I'm sorry my past is filled with being "vulnerable." If it will make you happy I won't post on this board anymore. I didn't know no one respected others' opinions here.

Okay, I think Jo is a neat character. But, I do not think she is the best out of the sitcom. I like Lisa Whelcher, Mindy Cohn, Charlette Rae, Nancy McKean and Kim Fields. I think you should be nice not tuff - because people will respect that out of a woman or a girl.

My idol (the person I respect outside my family) is Bill Bixby.

Thanks for the compliment Thomas, but I just don't appreciate being called names because of my opinions. I mean, I'm called names at school just because I hope Gore wins the election (I live in West Chester, Ohio, and around here there isn't one Gore sign, just Bush signs. I only know of 3 other Gore supporters). Anyway, since I'm getting off topic like I so often do, I just happen to not like Jo. She quite frankly annoys me sometimes. Personally, I like Blair and Natalie.

If you do not like Jo, that's your opinion. Although I thought she was good. Anyway the message board is for people to voice their own opinions. The name calling crap needs to stop. This is just a message board. Personally I dont think people should get worked up over fictional characters. I say keep the board clean(verbally speaking) so others can enjoy. You have a right to post messages, so continue to do so.

P.S. Go Gore!

Jo was a fine character. Her tough-girl aditude made an excellent contrast to Blair. I loved her because she really showed her own feelings from almost the beginning-and would eventualy become a better friend to Blair than either was willing to admit.

If im correct, didnt Jo cry in her second episode when the girl made fun of her mom? I think so.
And didnt she cry when talking to Mrs G about what Harrison did to her(that guy who took her to the catillion, then to the ninth green)? I think so.
Didnt she cry when her and her father had that fight in the second season when she won the best new student award? I think so.
Remember when she had to turn down Eddie? She cried.
Remember when she had to turn down Eddie the second time?
She cried.
So the allegation of how she doesnt show her emotions is bull.
Jo may be a little rough on the outside, but didnt they make that a point in the Graduation episode when Mrs G gave her that prizm rock. 'Theres more than meets the eye' I believe those were the exact words that Mrs G said about Jo.
Well, there you go, i stated my case.

Jo wasn't my fave character but I do think she added spice to the show which I heard was the purpose for bringing Jo into the show.
lavereneshirley,
I'm with ya on the Jo thing that she's not my fave character, although, I remember Jo showing her emotions quite often(maybe that's just me though)

The reason why i don't care for the character Jo as much as Blair or the others is mainly because I can't realate to her. But one thing that I don't like about her are a lot of her coments. Especially the one she makes to Blair. And it seems that she treats her diffrently just because she has money. And i think she is just a tad bit too stuborn,IMO. But other than that I like Jo.

Jo is feisty, I love a feisty womam because I know she won't be afraid to argue with me. I know, weird but arguments are good in small doses.

She is beautiful and smart. And EVERYTHING about her is my kind of personality.

Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly obvious, I am far too obssesed over Jo.

LaverneShirley don't worry cuz i agree with you on the jo stuff! I don't like jo either... i don't HATE her and i realize the show would be boring (somehwat) without her, but i do not like jo becuase she was ALWAYS sooooo tough and so experienced in being bad... but besides getting the girls inot jail she was never showing being bad... if she was REALLLY from the bronx she woud have sweared a lot more (i know they can't do that on tv but they coulda made her swear more) she would have never started being nice, and wouldn't she have engaged in more trouble some activities?? I mean, she was a complete fake of the bronx... sure she had her stupid comebacks, but where's the rest? Also, like LaverneShirley said... it took her A LOT to show her emotions and that did bother me too... also, i think that the other girls had more funnier things... jo was SOO predictable that i knew when she was gonna raise hell with a slickly little comeback... Nat, Mrs. G, Blair (well she can be predictable), and tootie all have their times where it's liek WOW!!! where'd that come from!?!? Also... i wish that her and blair would have become friends in the eastland years and ADMIT it.. sure they did the little helpless things, but what about the others? I mean... it all just seemed so fake... and i coudl go on and on why jo is my least favorite of all the girls.. but you don't wanna be bored out of your mind! And i'm glad that i'm not the ONLY one who thinks this stuff...!!

Jo is my second favorite character behind Tootie, but there are some things that I don't like about her. Sometimes she can be way too mean and grouchy. I was on Blair's side during the whole watch-gate and i can't stand Blair.
