View Full Version : Can someone tell me how to make microwave popcorn
TVFactFan 02-21-2004, 07:00 PM LOL-i have been trying to get this right. is it 2min, 4 min, 3 and a half min, does the microwave belong on HIGH, WHAT DO I DO???? Damm! I am so tired of taking it out the mircrowave and seeing BURNT popcorn. CAn someone help me please
It depends on the wattage of your microwave. Mine has a "popcorn" preset, which is two minutes, fifteen seconds. Regular-sized bags come out perfectly every time.
Georgia's on my Mind 02-21-2004, 07:10 PM 3 mins on high works for me
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 02-21-2004, 07:28 PM I usually need it for like, 4-5 minutes. Do what I do.. set the timer for 6 minutes.. and when the pops start to become 3-5 seconds apart, stop it.

Penny Lane 02-21-2004, 08:01 PM I have a popcorn setting on my microwave. 2 minutes.:) Try that!
PZelda 02-21-2004, 08:12 PM My microwave is from August 1992 (it says that on the bottom of the door when you open it), so in recent years, it's taking longer to do my popcorn...3 to 3:10 works for me.
robyrob 02-21-2004, 08:17 PM just stick it in the toaster and crank it all the way up :)

I can't remember the last time I popped popcorn. I used to do 3:15 on our old microwave. Sometimes I think it depends on the popcorn too.
Hollow 02-21-2004, 10:42 PM 30 min on high should do it.

Works on Gumby and Barbie too.
Bang A Gong 02-21-2004, 10:54 PM My microwave is a piece of ****. It takes forever to pop the popcorn. On the bag it tells you how many minutes you should put it in for but it never works for me. So I just push in a number and I end up undercooking it or overcooking it and it burns. I need a new microwave. I also need a new stove. But alas, no money. So I am stuck eating horrible popcorn.
Jack1000 02-21-2004, 11:05 PM It depends on the wattage of the microwave and the size of the bag. I do 2:40 on HIGH. Take it out right away when the microwave buzzes, shake it and let it sit. If you leave it in the Microwave it may still cook some and you could burn it if you overdo it.
BTW the BEST microwave popcorn I have ever had is POP SECRET HOMESTYLE. Don't get the Kettle Corn or Carmel Corn variety, those kinds are crap.
Jack
EricIdlefan 02-21-2004, 11:09 PM One time I put my bag in for four minutes and thought I was following the directions and all of a sudden, BOOM!!!!!!!!!! the bag exploded and the popcorn went inside all over the microwave. Then I noticed that not all microwaves are the same. Some want to microwave for two minutes, others four, etc. I had a hard time cleaning up the mess because the popcorn had butter!!
vienna waits 02-21-2004, 11:33 PM i do it for 1 min, 45 seconds. it will burn if i press the popcorn button. burnt popcorn is among the worst smells ever. :barf:
Kristen 02-22-2004, 12:10 AM I agree w/ Idol Fanatic, I've burned my share of bags over the years (My parents just love it when I do that!). But we just got a new microwave that has a popcorn button. I think it sets it for something like 3 mins, and knock wood, no burned bags so far!
Kristen
TheHappyBurgerMeister 02-22-2004, 02:56 AM I always set the time for 4 minutes, but then I end up stopping it early. You should stop it as soon as the kernels are done popping. You can hear it not popping anymore. My microwave is ancient- it's from February 1987, so this month it's 17 years old! It STILL works fine for us, except it's HUGE, not like those new little ones. Kind of like ancient cell phones. We've never had any problems with it so it's a pretty nice one. My aunt and uncle bought it for us when we moved into our new house (well, now our old house). It even has a rotating plate! I remember it perfectly because I had the chicken pox, they bought my parents a microwave and me a Popple! I still have it. :)

Pop Secret is good, and it's cheap!! Only 97 cents for a 3-pack. If I want to spend a little more money, I like Orville Redenbacher's Movie Theater Butter. YUM!
I've never had the caramel corn brand but I tried the Kettle Corn and did not like it at all. My sister loves it, and thought I'd give it a try. That was the last time.
robyrob 02-22-2004, 12:11 PM Does anyone make popcorn ON THE STOVE anymore?
last time i remember doing that, it ruined ANOTHER pot!!!

I don't even like kettle corn or caramel corn-flavored popcorn. :barf: And I agree, homestyle is the best! I looooove butter too, but nothing beats homestyle. :D
Or, even better, you could make your own popcorn with a popcorn maker. My family used to do that all the time when I was a kid.

I prefer a popcorn maker. It makes less messes and it's really fascinating watching the kernels pop into popcorn. :D

YES!! And it lingers for a good while, too. :barf:

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Uh, so are you...
If you put popcorn in the microwave and it burns, put it in for less time.
My 8 year old figured that one out on her very own.

Just by reading the time and dates of all your posts (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=290108), you seem have more free time on these boards than all of us combined. :)

Thank you!
He wanted an address of a newsgroup that i had to search for and since I did not make it my number one absolute FIRST priority on the first day I've had off in 21 days he seems to think he knows my exact schedule and how much time I have each day to devote to him. So that's what that jab was all about.
Nothing like doing a weeks worth of stuff in a single day is there!

That's nothing. When i called someone weird, he automatically knew that i have no offline friends, no one loves me, and i get rejected all the time! My god- this guy could be the next miss cleo.

Um. *poke* Hello? Some of us like WARM popcorn...Not COLD.
And there MIGHT be people posting here that REALLY can't hear a thing. If they saw your post, they would be insulted. Think about that.
PZelda 02-22-2004, 10:36 PM Okay, since nobody seems to be on topic, I'll just say this. Solomon, pop in a bag of popcorn, set it for 3 minutes and stand by it the whole time. When you start to hear the delays between popping getting longer, then that means it's pretty much done.
The end. Was that so hard?

Now there's gonna be 20 more pages of people yelling at other people for not being "PC" about hearing impaired people not hearing their popcorn popping.  What's next? And by the time you pour the danged stuff in the bowl it's cold anyway. Try sticking your head in the bag while it's still popping if you like it warm.
