Any TV Guide Collectors?

Does anybody else collect TV guides?? I started several years ago and have a pretty good collection...

I've been collecting them since 1989 and to date I have at least over 1,000.

I collect some. I collect any that refer to cast members of Laverne & Shirley. I have a couple from the past year, including the 50 Greatest Characters one, plus I have four I got on eBay (from 1976, 1978, 1979, and 1982)

I was lucky, I saw a bunch at an antique shop in preety good condition for about 3 dollars each. I picked up 4 yesterday and they are really neat.

We have most of the fall preview issues from 1965 to the late 70s...my older brother used to save issues now and then, but not on a regular basis. We also have a few random issues from the '68 through '73 period, although I don't know why he held on to them... I somehow ended up with them, and I'm not sure how.

One thing happened that was pretty cool... I have an issue from (I believe) 1971... I was looking through it one day, and I was kind of going through the days, reconstructing what I probably watched each day, and I noticed a show that I used to watch on Saturday afternoons... it was called "Sports Challenge", and it was hosted by Dick Enberg...

It was a quiz show, and would feature two teams of 3 members each, and each team consisted of players who were usually former teammates on some baseball, football or basketball team of historic significance... for example, a show might match 3 members of the 1956 Dodgers against 3 members of the 1956 Yankees (they played each other in the World Series that year)...

Anyway, this particular week in 1971, one team consisted of ex Detroit Tiger players, and one of them was a pitcher by the name of Virgil Trucks...Trucks was an excellent pitcher, he pitched two no-hitters in 1951, including one against the Yankees...I believe he won about 177 games in the major leages, and was a member of the 1945 World Series Champion Tigers (later, he was a coach with the Yankees during their dynasty of the late 50s)

It so happened that Virgil was a neighbor of mine at the time! He lived on my block, and I took this issue over to him and asked him about being on the show... he remembered it very well, and had a great time doing it... Hall of Famer Hal Newhowser was one of his teammates on Sports Challenge...

Basically, the idea of the show is, they would show a clip of a play in a famous or significant sporting event, and then would ask questions about it... the team with the most points at the end of the show would win...

It was a great show to watch, but it never really had a set time that it aired...it would depend on whether a baseball game was on the network, so it would sometimes not air at all if the game ran long...


Anyway, back to TV Guides... we also have the bicentennial issue from 1976...

And, last but not least, we have the issue from the week my wife and I were married

Sadly, all my TV Guides are from the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's, and I made the mistake of not preserving some of the ones from the 1980's, like that one with Fred Savage & Danica McKellar on the cover.
