Anyone ever consider it might have been this unidentified serial killer who abducted Angela? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Package_Killer

Seems unlikely. At least four of the five were prostitutes & the other likely was-she had been missing since May 1990-5 months before her body was found, had convictions for burglary & robbery & was unemployed.

The main suspect was a guy in his thirties who had a hatred for prostitutes, it is unlikely he was going to go abducting a woman who wasn't one-when he could just get actual working girls into his vehicle with no problem.

Good that case is wrapped up, but it effectively rules him out as he has nothing to lose by not confessing any other crimes.

This case has always bothered me. And I know Rob Shafer hasn't aged well over this. I am sure people are aware of his Facebook page and the picture that was taken about 10 years ago. It doesn't seem like it is active by any means, or used much, but in the photo he looks like a 60 year old man, not someone who would have been 40 at the time.

Rob doesn't appear to be a killer. He passed a polygraph and in reality he is only possibly guilty on things like these boards. It seems that the police cleared him pretty early on. Granted, they say they did, I am sure there is still a chance they think he had something to do with it. So if he did do it, how does he do what he did? That would be extremely hard for a 40 year old man, let alone an 18 year old who would make a lot of mistakes.

Things I find weird about this segment:

- Angie apparently describes the man, and the truck over the phone. Rob remembers this, but in a panic it seems awfully specific to remember that. Also, the decal on the back of the truck, I guess Rob would have seen it too perhaps, but that is just a detail that I don't know if I would remember after all that happened.

- This is something we see in a movie. Someone kidnapped, the hero comes to save the day and then the car stalls. Just seems too perfect. I get that you could do that, but would it be so hard to wreck your car like that as well?

- Angie was pregnant, perhaps a motive. Also, why use a payphone near midnight to call him, why not just drop in? I know it was 1991, but she didn't have to do this.

Okay, other things can play in here too, but that's it for now. The reason I lean towards Rob's side is a couple of things. His kid brother would be able to corroborate him running outside. His car did have the damage he said it did. Other witnesses saw a truck circling.

But what makes this so puzzling is that how on earth does this guy get away with it? I assume a 911 call is made pretty fast after this so how isn't there a priority to set up things like roadblocks. Or how can a truck like that hide so easily? This was a rural town, with rural roads. He can't just blend in. That hour or so after her disappearance should have resulted in the truck being pulled over. If Rob is telling the truth, 100% the truth, then I think the cops bungled that one up.

This article was written last year and offers something I've never seen discussed before:

Quote:
Someone who wanted to remain anonymous called the police and left a message about the Angela Hammond case. The Clinton, Missouri Police Department ended their Facebook post with this

That person specifically mentioned two names. You did not provide a means for us to recontact you,” said Clinton police. “If that person is reading this message, please re-contact us so that we can speak with you in real time. We will protect your identity or assure your anonymity.”
This means, IMO, that the police have a person or persons of interest in this case.

** The guy gets away with it as usual as is common sometimes. not in all murder cases but in plenty of them** A few years back or more a detective mentioned in an interview they know who the guy is (Angela case) - the kidnapper got the wrong young lady; he wanted revenge on a lawyer or snitch or something like that. As with other cases on UM - you said this, i said this too, many of us viewers said this: "how come this unknown, uncaught killer is not arrested yet!!??" = because there is not enough evidence sadly. They know who did it, possibly some others in the community know. otherwise the rest of us do not know. So its not like its some super mystery that is never getting solved. Its partially solved - yet needs more evidence. maybe it will be like those other cases that have popped up in the last 7 years - that were finally solved after 30 or 40 years.

Well found-I think he is a far more likely scenario than the mistaken identity theory that so far has produced nothing to back it up. Operating in that area in the late 1980's & likely in the 1990's, looks similar to the description Angela gave & others saw while he was in the vehicle, the offbeat trucks.

Not sure what was going on with the 14 year old & the 20 year old guy he shot-seems like they were an item! Now she has to be the oldest looking 13/14 year old ever in this picture of her-but even so.

Let me first say I 100% believe Rob. May he have got a description wrong? Sure, that's possible, but I do believe his story. 1) he never changed it...2) it makes PERFECT sense and 3) the car and phone records likely confirmed it.

As for your question on how he got away with it, he's my theory. The guy who did it is an out of towner, maybe even an out of stater. He doesnt live in the town, i think he took her to his place, did what he wanted and either killed her (which is my guess) or she's alive today as his sex slave. My guess though is she was likely killed when he did what he wanted.
