Last night there were preemptions on ABC in Boston and Manchester, NH for Monday Night Football simulcasts. Dancing with the Stars aired at 1:35am on these two stations, while Castle will air 1:05am (1:35am on the other station) tonight. So the final ratings will drop some from the preliminaries.

Last time New England played on MNF was on Nov. 30, 2009 and this is what happened:

PRE-LIM:

ABC 8.14 million and 2.4 18-49 (PREEMPTED IN BOSTON AND MANCHESTER, NH FOR NFL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL)
8:00PM HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS -REPEAT 9.64 million, 2.9/8 18-49
8:30PM SHREK THE HALLS -REPEAT 10.01 million, 3.2/8 18-49
9:00PM FIND MY FAMILY 7.85 million, 2.3/5 18-49
10:00PM CASTLE -REPEAT 6.75, 1.9/5 18-49

FINALS:

ABC 4.3/6.6, 7.37, 2.2/5.4, 2.5/5.8 (PREEMPTED IN BOSTON AND MANCHESTER, NH FOR NFL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL)
8:00PM HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS -REPEAT 4.7/7, 9.2, 2.8/7, 3.3/8
8:30PM SHREK THE HALLS -REPEAT 4.5/7, 9.15, 2.9/7, 3.3/7
9:00PM FIND MY FAMILY 4.3/6, 6.95, 2.0/5, 2.3/5
10:00PM CASTLE -REPEAT 4.0/7, 6.01, 1.6/4, 2.0/5

It looks like it will be a .2 or .3 drop in 18-49 tonight for ABC tonight from the prelim ratings (as with last week). Not too bad. Plus the year ago game was with the Saints-Pats. This was Dolphins-Pats. Last week ABC went from a prelim 4.3 to a final 4.1, still in first place despite the station preemptions.

If ABC drops .3 it will at best tie CBS for first

Even before Football DWTS is off .5 from last week. Why are there always these huge drops yet CBS remains stable or has more minimal drops.

First night of sweeps:

Thursday, October 28, 2010
8:00pm It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Programming for the hour on Oct. 21 is still TBD. Possibly a Grey's previous week repeat or a special will air, though. Look for a new series to launch on Nov. 4 (maybe Secret Millionaire or V).

Just putting it out there: WIPEOUT reruns Thurs at 8p the next 2 weeks would get them a 2 and help them win the night.

8:00PM Grey's Anatomy (previous week repeat) until 10/21; It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (10/28); Secret Millionaire (effective Nov. 4, maybe on Thanksgiving (11/25) have a three-episode repeat marathon from 8-11pm)

Fridays
Effective immediately (10/8)
8:00PM No Ordinary Family (Tuesday repeat)
9:00PM Primetime: What Would You Do? (repeats for now, preempted on 10/22 for 20/20 Special)
[New episodes can air starting 10/29 for WWYD)

Now if The Whole Truth gets pulled in the next few weeks or less, this is what ABC should do:

Wednesdays
9:30PM Modern Family (R)
10:00PM Cougar Town (all-new)
10:30PM Cougar Town (R)
[Then possibly bring in Happy Endings and Mr. Sunshine in November somewhere here, but it will be hard to do that since Nov. 10 is CMA's and Nov. 24 is Thanksgiving Eve...really tough, so ABC is just better off airing repeats of MF/CT at 9:30 & 10:30 until Jan)

What about V and Body of Proof? Either could air Tuesdays at 9 after DWTS is over (Nov. 30), I would guess V would be the choice and maybe hold Body of Proof for early 2011.
So I posted this last week and ABC almost did all of this. Nice. Wednesdays at 10 is the only thing that hasn't changed yet, and I think that will change come November with specials and comedy repeats. Starting in January, I would turn the entire night into comedies with additions of Happy Endings and Mr. Sunshine somewhere on the night. No drama works for ABC at 10pm anyway on this night it seems. Go for the comedies. They'll do 2s at least.

Thursdays at 8 starting 11/4 still isn't announced though, but hoping it is Secret Millionaire, as I suggested. This hour needs to be a reality series for the rest of the season, whether it is SecMill, EM: Weight Loss Edition or even Shark Tank. I'd rather air V Tuesdays starting Nov. 23, with the premiere airing at 10 after the DWTS Grand Finale. The following week, V can air every Tuesday at 9pm following No Ordinary Family. And as I predicted, Body of Proof will be held for early 2011. Maybe in March on Tuesdays at 10? Off the Map should air Sundays at 10 in March.

Whatever they do for Thursdays I assume will be announced shortly as they'll need to start promoting this week. Let's say Sec Millionaire blows up (and even if it gets a 2.5 I'd assume theyd want more). Wouldnt they want to rush back into production and produce more? I assume they want some kind of set 8p Thu show. That's been a hole for them for a while now and the right reality show that works could finally plug that hole.

Stuart Levine of Variety seems pretty sure Sec Milliionaire is going on Friday. His direct quote was "looks like Friday". I wonder if ABC has any plans for Million Dollar Mind Game or Em:WLE on Thursday

Like I said, that is what I have a feeling they will do, with V on Thursdays. Do I like that? No. I hope I'm wrong and they go with my suggestion.

Variety and EW have also made the point that it makes the most sense to go with Sec Milli or reality, so I am sure they see many in the biz think that they should do it. I just don't get why they wouldn't try the reality route. V has big comp with BONES, TBBT AND The Vampire Diaries. Honestly if they dont do Sec Mill on Thurs, I'd rather they try it on Sun as it cant do much worse than EM. plus On Friday School Pride is going for the exact same audience. Sometime this season they need to try something else Sun at 8p and the remaining EM:HE can be used on Sundays in Summer where there's less competition.

I was only speaking hypothetically based on yours and Stuart Levine's comments. Also, I haven't understood (since May) leaving Sundays completely as is, and based on 3 weeks of ratings for EM:HE I don't think it's wrong of me to suggest something new there at some point soon. That's why I said IF SM doesn't end up on Thurs, It would make more sense, to me, to be used for a Sunday tryout.
