Yes, this smells smearing a suspect's reputation to try to thinly justify why Rob might have done it. If she wanted to tell him she was breaking up with him, don't you think she would wait for him to be home together, and not while he is with his younger brother? They were, after all, living together and nothing from Angela's stuff was reported missing from their household.

It is entirely possible Angela called Rob from that phone booth because she was just too tired to come over babysit his kid brother with him, or she has had a bad day. She just wanted to warn him before heading home.

Had she not been kidnapped, Rob would have gone home and gone back to Angela.

I'll respect your opinions that Rob is innocent. I'll refrain from arguing about this any further. However, I'm not smearing anyone's "reputation". The point I was making is that this is an unsolved mystery, and I treated it as such. We don't know what happened to Angela, so I went with a different theory. To me Rob is still a suspect.

It's like saying I'm smearing Jule Caylor's reputation because I think he's guilty, or Tim McClure's. Fact is these 3 are the last to see these women alive. People go to town on Jule, and Tim, but I'm ruining Rob's reputation because I suspected that he might be guilty? Don't think so.

With this logic we might as well not discuss any cold case file for the fear of "ruining someone's reputation".

If you don't like someone suspecting Rob of foul play, then coming into this thread/forum is a bad idea. Perhaps a "Rob is innocent" thread would make a better place?

What's the point? You'd post the same comments on that thread. May as well keep it all together for the sake of continuity...

No I wouldn't. This is the general "Angela Hammond" thread, ya know to discuss all aspects of the case.

In the "Rob is Innocent" thread my comments wouldn't be welcomed, as my theories would go against the point

But you'd still argue. It's in your blood, friend. You can't help yourself.

I'm going to address this point in particular. Angela didn't have a phone at home. So she used the pay phone. If it was a local call to Rob, it might only have cost the dime or quarter it took to make the initial call. As they lived in the same town, I suspect it was indeed a local call. I had a friend who used to drive to a specific payphone because it was the closest one that was local to his girlfriend's house, which was a toll call from his house, pull his car up next to the payphone and talk for hours. All for the paltry sum of 10 or 25 cents. Teenagers can talk for hours. Teenagers in love can talk for days.

Ah, come on now. Giving me flashbacks. I think I'm tearing up. I had my own payphone once and would get a roll of quarters when I cashed my check. This was back when pagers were a thing too.

Right? I once got grounded from making toll calls. I walked to the nearest payphone with probably half a pound of coins and called all my friends. I never thought of it until now, but I wonder if the deli owner (the phone was outside) thought I was a drug dealer or something. Nope, just grounded and stubborn.

Regardless, she could've paid enough to have more than 30 minutes on the phone. My point still stands that a connection could've been made for 30 minutes without them talking the whole time.

But someone was "abducted". This isn't a simple phone call between two love birds, this was also an abduction. There are alot of things to take into consideration here.

How about collect calls from payphones? The good old days where you cheated the phone company.

Robot Voice: You...have...a...collect...call....from....

Me: (Really fast) Mom, I'm at the pool, come pick me up!!!

Robot Voice: Do...you...accept...the...charges?

When it's summer vacation and you're 10 years old, that always came in handy.

Heh. I once collect called my husband and said "I_think_I_left_the_iron_on" was calling. I was at work and we couldn't make long distance calls.

LOL!! I thought I was the only one who did that!

Back in the 1990's, when thick, curly bangs were all the rage, I left a very similar message for my mom. "MomILeftTheCurlingIronOnCanYouPleaseCheck..."

Ohh, good times. Our kids will never understand the pain.

This Angela Hammond case is especially sad, given that her bf tried to rescue her and had to give up due to his car dying.

It's strange that they haven't at least found the body of AH, given that - unfortunately - she's almost certainly passed on.

I don't think the bf had anything to do with this. His stating that Angela saw someone suspicious while talking on the pay phone with him makes sense. The kidnapper probably didn't need to use the phone at all, but just stopped there & pretended that he needed to, so he could put Angela off guard & then abduct her....the bf having heard him say something like "I didn't need to use the phone, anyway" adds credence to this. This happened late at night in a small town - when there were probably not a lot of others around to witness this.

I suspect the kidnapper was a drifter who didn't live in the area, but this is just sheer speculation on my part.

Like a lot of the old UM segments, this one is also especially nostalgic. In this specific case, it's due to the importance a pay phone/phone booth plays in the segment. I don't think I've seen a working pay phone anywhere since around 2002.

This has been a theory that I came up with. I felt this was a drifter who was driving or passing through town, then came upon a sick opportunity and took it. I feel he did what predators do, then killed her and hid her body (obviously very well). I don’t think Rob did it since I feel if he did it, her body would’ve been found by then, plus his story didn’t sound suspicious
