Another thing you hear is that advertisers will not pay for ad space on all-classic TV because older viewers are not in the key demographic. Then why did MeTV and MeToo do so well in Chicago that they eventually launched a national MeTV channel? Why did Antenna TV start up? Why did THIS TV start up? Why did Retro TV start up?

Why are commercials airing on these channels? Admittedly, they ARE commercials aimed at older viewers, but apparently there's enough of a market there for the advertisers to air them...

I think it's something they say to justify the changes the young execs make in order to make their own mark on the network, and to remove old "grandpa" shows they personally don't like and bring in "hip modern" shows that the young execs personally DO like...

Because people can watch Antenna TV for free. TV land you have to pay for

Advertisers are willing to pay for ads on classic TV channels that are free but not on TV Land just because it has revenue coming in from the cable and satellite companies? That doesn't seem to make sense.

Why is it that the studios don't force the content they own to be removed from YouTube?

While there has been a general trend in recent years to add modern shows, they still had Leave It to Beaver on as late as last year. They had MASH and Three's Company on until this summer. And they had The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy on just a few weeks ago. So there are enough recent changes for viewers to have the right to still complain.

It's not like TV Land went all-modern 3 years ago and so viewers have no right to complain. Of course, fans of the modern shows seem to WANT fans of classic TV to stop trying to get classic TV back on TV Land.

There are still plenty of specialized channels--Lifetime, SyFy, Spike, Animal Planet, Disney, Nick, etc. WGN has always been more generalized.

And a former TV Land exec said years ago that the changes were due to the newer young execs wanting to make a name for themselves. I tend to believe him rather than a TV Land rep who has to cover for their bosses.

well that is true, if you are taking over a department or organization you have to make you mark and start a new era otherwise what would be the point of them being hired?

Maintain the good work that is already being done.

In my line of work, executives who came in and turned everything on its head just to make a name for themselves and stroke their own huge egos, usually produced disastrous results.

Which is what I think happened with TV Land.

No you have to create your own style of managing when you are the head of anything coming into a new situation

After watching Andy Griffith and ELR streaming on Netflix I can't stand watching them chopped up on TV Land.

No you don't. That is just egotistical business BS. Changing things all around just because you are in a new situation is stupid and reckless.

It is hard watching them chopped up, but I still like watching them live. I guess they are the only two shows left on TV Land I still like to watch.

I was thinking about it--on weekdays now, TV Land only airs three shows made before the 90s--Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Andy Griffith Show.

I don't have TV Land anymore but I see they have a nice Saturday schedule starting from 8am to 4pm which is the Brady Bunch and Cosby Show

Sure, there's still around, but look at how many shows have abandoned or cut down on their niche - MTV, VH1, TLC, Discovery Channel, History Channel, ABC Family, Bravo, AMC, ect. (I would argue even Animal Planet is playing fast and loose with the animals theme with their reality shows and whatnot too). The ones that have kept their niche are pretty wide-reaching - TBS "we air comedy!", Lifetime "television for women!", TNT "we air dramas!", and of course the kids' networks because that brand of speciality is always going to be around because you can't except 7 year olds and 35 year olds to have the same taste in television. Nevertheless, it's an interesting trend and it makes me wonder why niche networks don't seem to be as profitable anymore.

Personally? I really don't care what TV Land airs. I just find it funny how people here get outraged at the smallest of schedule changes, as if these cable networks are catering only to them. I get being upset that TV Land isn't airing classics as much as they used to. I don't get complaining about Friends being on too much because you don't like it. TV channels are businesses that have to worry about making money, not your personal tastes. Luckily, we live in an age where you can watch basically any show you want at any time so there's less and less need to rely on them for your television needs. Hence why I don't get *all* of the complaining.

They've had The Cosby Show on the weekends for a long time now, but it's great to see they've added The Brady Bunch. And they've added a block of The Andy Griffith Show on Saturday, and Raymond gets 6 episodes on Saturday nights!

I guess that may explain why The Brady Bunch got dropped from INSP.

See, TV Land has not given up on classic TV entirely, and as a viewer, I don't plan to give up either. I don't see why viewers shouldn't fight to keep classic TV on TV Land.

Thanks for the good news!

yeah TV Land is basically like 30% classic TV and 70% everything else

I don't think the channel will ever be 0% classic TV
