ABC is saying the news on RC as of now, is not true. Honestly, I think we will see two-hour Dancing all Mondays for the rest of the season. I am hoping RC is saved for the fall, but I just found out that is not likely because it was developed for this season not next season. It has great potential and would be a waste to launch it now (or in summer).

If ABC is going out of their way to see the news is NOT true, then it seems to me that RC will not be airing this season. Which doesn't make much sense, considering all the comedy pilots they currently have in development. Unless, it ends up as a summer burn-off. Which again makes no sense, considering it was a late pick-up in the first place.

What is going to tell us if ABC is going to use Romantically Challenged this season or is not is if they start running promos, or not. You can't just throw a new series on the schedule without promoting it for several weeks. If they don't start running promos in the next week or so you can forget about April 19. I would think after that date it would just be too late to launch a new show for this season. Watch the promos to see if ABC will launch the show soon, or not.

Superbowl, ABC said it is not premiering April 19. And they have to air it this season (summer does count) I'm told since it was developed for this season. The options for the stars would expire at the end of the summer, so it would be difficult to launch it in the fall because their contracts would have expired since the show never aired.

If ABC did want to premiere it in the fall, wouldn't they just negotiate contract extensions with the cast & crew? It's my understanding that is what ABC did with the cast last summer when it chose to keep the show for midseason instead of the fall. I'm aware that Kyle has already accepted a role in a pilot for CBS, but would he still be obligated to Romantically Challenged even if ABC does decide to keep it off the air until the fall? By this I mean, ABC gives the show an extra 7 episodes to produce to bring the total to 13 episodes(the usual # of episodes ordered by a network for picking up a pilot, with the chance for more episodes).

Just curious, have you ever seen a show get treated this way before?

Network supposedly happy with pilot-hold show for midseason-recast a lead character-change show premise-cut order from 13 to 6-produce 6 episodes-have episodes in the can, but no announcement of a premiere date with about 8 weeks left in the regular TV season

This whole thing seems mind boggling to me, but maybe it's a regular occurance but just caught my attention because this particular show involves my favorite actress.

One other question, do you know what pilots Alyssa was offered earlier this spring as a potential "2nd" option?

Well, they picked-up the pilot late (like August instead of the usual May pick-up) and extended the actors' options because the TV season was still to come. This show was developed for this season (fall and mid-season are the same season still) so they would have to extend their options on the actors again, so that is not likely. So it wouldn't be saved for the fall. It is this season or nothing. If the show airs before the options expire, ABC has them contractually and they wouldn't be able to go anywhere (unless ABC cancels it before Sept.), but if it doesn't air before their options expire they are free to go.

I just hope everything works out and this show airs (maybe it would do well in summer, who knows) and becomes a big hit because it looks very good. Best case would be it does great in the summer and ABC picks-up a second season and they could launch it next midseason. I don't know what other pilots Alyssa was offered this season in second position.

This kind of thing has happened before, mainly at NBC (they usually have one sitcom every year that they pick-up but it never airs). This year the comedy for NBC is 100 Questions, but they are actually airing it...but in the summer. Last season ABC had Alyssa in Single with Parents and they picked it up, but they scrapped it after that. Only one episode was shot though. They didn't like the direction I believe of where that was headed, which is NOT the case here with RomChallenged, so I think scheduling is the main issue here.

Thanks for explaining the situation in more detail. You are awesome. I'm praying ABC comes to their senses soon.

If they launch it in the summer then it would basically be burn off material. I cannot remember the last successful sitcom that launched in the summer. ABC obviously has just taken a dislkining to this show. If they had any regard for it they would have found a place for it by now. Alyssa will just have to find a new show.

Alyssa says the premiere date will be announced tomorrow. So I don't think this is going to be a summer series. Interesting. They like the show, Superbowl, they are supporting it. I think it could be a big hit because the plot of these episodes sound great.
