It wasn't the way I heard it. He and a bunch of Brat Packers went to somewhere (Georgia?) for Democratic Convention '88, and Rob Lowe met a 16 year old fan and her mom (I think?) and they went into his hotel room and they had sex. That's what I remember hearing.

And it made national news and Rob Lowe was booed out of acting for a few years and came back to make a movie about, what else...the '88 scandal.

the problem with it was that he videotaped the whole thing - i think he may have claimed it was acting as part of his defence, but i'm not sure if that was just what he said when he appeared on SNL afterwards...

Yep, I remember that being a very big deal at the time. Jokes were thrown all over the place.
