I don't see the harm in it if it's not overdone.
Some people seem to be so upset over something as trivial as this, imagine how this makes new members feel if they see an old thread that they find interesting but are afraid to post in it for fear of people jumping all over them. Sometimes I like that old threads get bumped cause I find something interesting to post about in that thread that I missed the first time
