Of course, they probably spent a lot of money, and couldn't afford to keep it. That's my take. Most shows that last long usually have high ratings and/or Emmy winners. Anyway, TV Land should do a marathon of Happy Days and Rhoda. Both were interesting. HD was 1st once, and in the top ten 5 times. In Rhoda's case, they were 6th and 7th in the ratings the first two years, and Valerie won an Emmy for her role as Rhoda, and was nominated three more times.

I agree about Rhoda. TV LAND can show episodes I guess if they had rights. But if they don't then that's a different story. I guess it's easier to obtain rights for shows like

Mister ED
Carol Burnett
Brady Bunch

INSTEAD of

Rhoda
Maude
Alice
Laverne and Shirley

By Sitcom Analyzer: Well here is my list of shows that were not funny and lasted longer than a year: Barney Miller...
Fortunately for the rest of us, the world does not revolve around your tastes. Barney Miller is one of only a handful of shows that never jumped according to Jump The Shark. Perhaps the show's humor is a little too dry and subtle for you, but there are plenty of fans like myself who think Barney Miller is an extremely funny and intelligently written show.

One thing Solomon, when you speak, you shouldn't try to speak for everybody. Case in point say a show is unfunny and it belongs on PBS. That can be very insulting to the fans of those particular shows.

I've seen "That's My Mama" and it was OK, but not all that great. I hate "Happy Days" but I'm not ashamed to say that it was/is a classic. I love "Rhoda" and even though it only lasted 5 seasons, I still say it is classic too. "Chico and the Man" was pretty good also. 1974 was just not a year of a lot of sucessful sitcom premieres. This year marks the 40th anniversaries of "Bewitched," "The Munsters," and "Gilligan's Island," and they will probably do something in commemoration for those three. It is also the 35th anniversaries of "The Brady Bunch" and "Love American Style." "The Facts of Life" and "Benson" make 25 years old each. "The Cosby Show" turns 20 this year, so NAN will go absolutely bezerk. Some years in the coming future will serve as the anniversaries of MANY shows, and if TVLand has the shows' rights, and would want to do specials, you will notice it...

For instance, in 2002, TVLand had four anniversary marathons: "Three's Company" (1977), "Soap" (1977), "The Love Boat" (1977), and "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962). If they had the rights, they could also have done an anniversary marathon of "Eight is Enough" since it premiered in Spring 1977.

Next year, 2005, will serve as the anniversaries for several classic sitcoms, including...

"Burns and Allen" (1950, 55 years)
"The Andy Griffith Show" (1960, 45 years, I guarantee there will be a 48-hour marathon, just wait and see!)
"My Three Sons" (1960, 45 years)
"I Dream of Jeannie" (1965, 40 years)
"Green Acres" (1965, 40 years)
"Get Smart" (1965, 40 years)
"F Troop" (1965, 40 years)
"Mary Tyler Moore" (1970, 35 years)
"The Partridge Family" (1970, 35 years)
"The Odd Couple" (1970, 35 years)
"The Jeffersons" (1975, 30 years)
"One Day at a Time" (1975, 30 years)
"Welcome Back Kotter" (1975, 30 years)
"Barney Miller" (1975, 30 years)
and some other I forgot...

The shows from above that TVLand will still have in 2005 will most likely be celebrated. I can be sure that TAGS, IDOJ and GA will be celebrated since they will still be on TVLand next year. If MTM ever returns, there might be a special marathon weekend for it too.

Some 2006 anniversaries...

"I Love Lucy" (1951, 55 years) - Don't expect a blow-out since they pretty much did it all for the 50th Anniversary, but they might just replay that.
"Mister Ed" (1961, 45 years)
"The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961, 45 years) - Same as ILL
"Hazel" (1961, 45 years)
"That Girl" (1966, 40 years)
"Family Affair" (1966, 40 years)
"All in the Family" (1971, 35 years) - If the show is still on TVLand by 2006, expect a huge weekend of AITF and possibly its spin-offs too.
"Laverne & Shirley" (1976, 30 years) - If the rights are ever reacquired, which I hope they are, they could make a nice 48-hour marathon for the show.
"Alice" (1976, 30 years) - Wouldn't expect anything at all unless a miracle occured and TVLand picked it up.
and others I can't think off...

I'd go further than that, but I think everyone knows when most shows will start making their milestone anniversaries.

Yes, those were definitely not classics like the parent show.

I will admit Brian, i did like Alice a lot. She was funny. Alice and Bobby were the characters who generated the laughs.
