The movie Fugitive was based on the tv show, right?

Yes, but there was no way a two hour movie could capture the "magic" of a 4 year tv series run. As much as I like Harrison Ford, the movie can't hold a candle to the original series.

If you ever get a chance to watch it, please do. I'm quite sure you will not be disappointed.

Did it take any plot ideas from the tv show? Like the Brady Bunch movie did.

Well, the basic premise is the same. Here's a real brief synopsis of the tv show:

Dr. Richard Kimble (Pediatrician) and his wife lose their only child at birth and in order to save his wife's life, the doctor performs surgery that prevents her from having any more children. She becomes depressed, and on one night of drinking, yells at Richard and he leaves the house. While gone, a one-armed man enters the house to rob it, finds his wife, and kills her. Just as he's running out of the house, Dr. Kimble drives up and almost literally runs over the man (therefore getting a good look at him). He runs into the house to find his wife dead, and is then charged with her murder since no one believes his story about the one-armed man. While on his way to prison (and the electric chair) the train he is in derails and he escapes from Lt. Gerard (the detective who oversaw his prosecution and was escorting him to prison).

From there he goes from town to town, trying to both run from Gerard and seek the one-armed man. In the process, he is constantly helping people and dealing with all different types of situations. Here's an interesting fact: "The Incredible Hulk" copied the premise of this show to a tee. You know how David Banner went from town to town each week helping people while running from the reporter? Well, that show took it's cue from THE FUGITIVE 100%. So if you liked the basic premise of HULK, you'd surely like THE FUGITIVE.

The writing and music for the show was incredible. I first started watching it in the early 90's when I found it on A&E. I instantly fell in love with the show!

Again, if you ever get a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it.

Personally, I would like to see "Tokyo Pig," "Dexter's Lab," "The Lucy Show," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "The Tick (animated)", "The Andy Griffith Show," "Totally Spies," "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers," "Batman (1960s)," "I Dream of Jeannie," "Pokemon," "America's Funniest Home Videos," "Green Acres," "Carol Burnett & Friends," "The Cosby Show," "Get Smart," "Diff'rent Strokes," "CHiPs," "Star Trek," and "Cosby (1996)" all released on DVD Season Sets.

Did the movie use the same music? Can you find the tv show on anywhere today?

No, the music for the tv show and movie were different.

Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any showing right now of the show on national tv. The last time it was on was about 3 years ago on a special "Fandemonium" weekend on TVLand. Many of us were hoping TVLand would air the entire series after the marathon, but for some unknown reason they chose not to.

Paramount or Universal; whoever it is who owns the rights for the show thinks they're a favorite... they're only a sloppy redesign of All In The Family.

Columbia Tri-Star owns the rights to this show, and are putting it out on dvd. Not to upset any fans of that show, but I think it is a shame that Columbia Tri-Star is putting this out on dvd before the many true CLASSICS they do own (like "Father Knows Best", "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "The Partridge Family", and quite a few others as well).

I'm glad "Married...With Children" is coming to DVD. And I too, hope they release alot of the classic sitcoms. A few classics that I really want to see come to DVD are: "Car 54, Where Are You?", "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis", "My Three Sons", "The Odd Couple", "Chico and the Man". Pretty much every single show ever made I would like on DVD. But since that's just my naive thinking, I guess that won't happen. Not soon anyways. The biggest DVD release that I'm upset about is the upcoming "My Big Fat Greek Life". They can bring that both ratings and critical failure to DVD, while the other short lived sitcom, the critically acclaimed "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" remains gone.

The thing that keeps me going is knowing that in early 2004, "NewsRadio: The Complete First and Second Seasons" is coming to DVD.

I was crazy about The Fugitive..."With David Jansen as Doctor Richard Kimble", lol. When the movie came out I was in my own world, filled with anticipation. You know when movies based on by-gone TV shows come out, and usually it doesn't mean much to you? You see the fanatics and wonder what they are all hyped up about? Well, that's the way it was with me for The Fugitive; I was one of the all hyped ups! It was like having a secret passion that few other people around me or in my life could understand. As it turned out, the movie didn't begin to live up to my hopes. That wasn't because it wasn't a good movie. It was a very good movie. I guess it had to do with the adage, 'you can never go home'. There was no way that the movie could satisfy the emotions that I was looking to have satisfied.

Harrison Ford, who played Richard Kimble, and Tommy Lee Jones, who play Detective Gerrard are two of my favorite actors. They both did a great job. It was just not the Fugitive. That couldn't be helped.

I agree. They especially need to get the rarely ever seen today old shows out on dvd... like Your Show of Shows and the Superman and Batman serials.

Of course I take it in that spirit.

Remember this episode of The Fugitive? The one armed man volunteered to be part of a scientific test. He did it for the money, naturally--the chump.

He was locked away for several days, and sleep deprived, which messed with his mind. When he did sleep he was being filmed and recorded. He told the story, in his sleep deprived delirium, about having murdered Dr. Kimble's wife. Kimble got word of this. He was summoned to the place where the man was, and the people who were keeping the one arm man stalled him until Kimble arrived. Kimlble and the one armed man got into a brutal brawl. (The one armed man was one real tough hombre.) He managed to get hold of the tape of his confession, and destroyed it. Then, he escaped. My memory is vague about the specifics but it was something like that. The suspense on The Fugitive sometimes gave me fits, lol.
