In agreement that Dave Barry voicing Elmer and the canned score ruins what would be an average Looney Tune otherwise.

Default Toon In with Me - Mon. 2/24/25 (repeat)

"Black History in Music" (season 4 show 25)

(originally aired Mon. Feb. 12, 2024)

One Froggy Evening (1955 - Jones) - one of four Warner cartoons preserved in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress; three of those are Chuck Jones cartoons.

The Pied Piper of Basin Street (1945 - Culhane)

Solid Serenade (Tom and Jerry - 1946 - Hanna, Barbera)

The Hep Cat (1942 - Clampett) - first color cartoon in the Looney Tunes series

Three Little Bops (1957 - Freleng)

Default Toon In with Me - Tue. 2/25/25

"This Week in History #1" (season 5 show 30)

(all cartoons today were released in this week in history, Feb. 23 - Mar. 1)

Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears (1944, Jones) - debut of the dysfunctional Three Bears family. They would go on to do a few more cartoons.

Putty Tat Trouble (Tweety, Sylvester - 1951 - Freleng) - Tweety has two cats to outwit in this violent outing--Sylvester and an eye-damaged, battle-worn orange tabby. Reissued cartoon retains its original Looney Tunes closing. Most Freleng gags were used in multiple films, but the dunking bird toy was unique to this one.

Born to Peck (Woody - 1952 - Lantz [uncredited]) - the suicide scene near the end has possibly been censored at times since the 1950s, or the unseen animator's quick change might have rescued it from the editor's blade.

Bartholomew Versus. the Wheel (1964 - McKimson)

Conrad the Sailor (Daffy - 1942 - Jones)

"Celebrating Tex" (season 5 show 31)

(Bill and Toony celebrate the life and cartoons of pioneering animator Tex Avery)

A Wild Hare (Bugs - 1940 - Avery) - if you watch closely, you can see a small video shift right before the dissolve to the titles and credits, possibly indicating a splice repair at some point. It could be that the rings were taken from another cartoon, since this cartoon was retitled "The Wild Hare" and Blue Ribbon reissued in 1944; in any event, it's great that the original titles and credits were found. They were also found for the generally-not-shown "Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt"; these were the only two Bugs Bunny cartoons from the early to mid 1940s to be reissued.

Red Hot Riding Hood (1943 - Avery) - in Jerry Beck's 1994 book on the 50 greatest cartoons (voted by animation professionals), this was number 7.

Northwest Hounded Police (Droopy - 1946 - Avery)

Symphony in Slang (1951 - Avery)

The Legend of Rockabye Point (Chilly Willy - 1955 - Avery) - team Avery and Maltese, and you get this classic. Oscar-nominated, but "Speedy Gonzales" (Warner) won. It would be great if the Academy could go back in time and right some wrongs in the animated shorts category; Warners, MGM, and Lantz coiuld have benefited.

I'll say it again--these retrospectives should be spread over multiple episodes--possibly even a full week.

With all the theatrical cartoon libraries they have at their disposal right now, they could have done a week's worth of episodes about cartoons that were either nominated or won the Academy Award for best animated short.

Bck in the pat, TCM would dedicate the month of February to the Oscars.

One of three Speedy/Daffy cartoons produced by Format Films and directed by Rudy Larriva (one of which, "The Spy Swatter," MeTV does not show).

Phoney Pony (Woody - 1969 - Smith)

The Hare Ribbin' cartoon has 2 different endings.

MeTV aired the version with the 2nd ending.
