I watched a hand full of episodes because it was one of the shows one of my sisters watched. Never could get into it. Waltons all the way.

Though Melissa Sue Anderson was a babe, and starred in one of my favorite slashers Happy Birthday To Me.

Bradley, no offense, I have always wondered why do you dislike Julie (Blah) so much? Yes, she is a very polarizing character and can be such a pain in the butt but would you say that at the very least that Mackenzie Phillips was a good actress, despite her many personal problems?

The show was always better with the two sisters to play off each other. The two are such a good friends in real life, were both able to survive a lot of drama in their personal lives to emerge strong and successful in their fifties.

I wish the reboot had focused on their characters as they are right now. Who is to say that One Day At a Time has to be about a young single mom and her kids?

Why couldn't the updated show be about the struggle of older ladies ala The Golden Girls and Hot in Cleveland with their careers, kids, grandchildren, husbands, ex husbands and so on? This new show looks good on its own it doesn't need the old title to sell it in my humble opinion.

Do you all think Val and Mack would have signed on if they approached them to do the reboot as the leads?

I wish that the reboot would take that route as well. They could have Julie raising her grandkids because baby Annie grew up to be a drug addict. That's the sort of thing that happens a lot in America these days anyway.

Oh my goodness, DJ!

I never even thought about that angle of one or both of them having to raise their grandchildren.

I love it! That would have been such a good premise.

And especially with a reformed Julie to have to assume a parental role to her own grandchildren when she abandoned her own daughter, Annie. Lots of irony. Lots of drama! Lots of karma!

But they would have to find a way to keep Max on somehow! With his current wife, Bonnie.

Yes Grampa Max would have a recurring role happily married now, and with more children and grand children with the lovely Bonnie!

And Julie would be jealous of Bonnie because she is happily married to the one she foolishly let get away.

Lots of comic tension between those two.

Who do we cast to play Bubbly Bonnie? How many kids and grandkids do the Horvath's have?

It is on a DVD with When a Stranger Calls with Carol (Simka Dahblitz) Kane.

Were you a fan of that one, Torgo?

Lisa Kudrow! She's very bubbly and blonde! I saw her in Girl on the train movie. At 53 she still looks pretty good!

Excellent pick and she knows Lembeck from when he directed Friends! (and got an Emmy for it!)

I love Lisa Kudrow, she could just read the phone book and be hilarious just like the aforementioned Carol Kane.

I love to imitate both of them.

I do like When A Stranger Calls. "Have you checked the children?" is still one of the creepiest lines.

So we agree on that. What I think it is is a combo of Netflix going after the young audience who never heard of the original, and Norman Lear using one of his old titles to try to entice use oldsters who understand this computer thingie to check it out.

Wink

I should have done this earlier.

Welcome to the boards, Willie O!

Thanks for starting this topic, I am surprised we never covered it.

For the record I like both sisters because of the appealing nature of the actresses playing them.

I think Barbara had an easier hand in life if you will being born so beautiful and it is no wonder she is more inherently likable because she was blessed by the genetic gods. I have a Barbara type sister and so I can understand Julie's inner rage, LOL.

Barbara was born with dimples on her butt!

Yes, we are all in agreement. Absolutely.

However the angle DJ brought up with troubled Julie who abandoned her own daughter raising Annie's children because of an addiction issue I never thought of. It would have been interesting to see her play the Ann Romano nurturing role if you will having presumably matured in the last 30 years or so.

I wonder what would have happened to Barbara? Did she and Mark adopt? Was she a mover and shaker with Max in the travel industry?
