Carol really added a lot to the show. It's a shame she wasn't in the later seasons.

Pay attention to Aunt Fran next time you watch the NBC episodes. She was very funny and had a unique position in the family.

Aunt Fran is that typical family member everyone has. Nothing unique about her. I have several family members that fall in the "Aunt Fran" category.

I also have a few "Eunice" and "Ellen" and Ellen types too

Yeah, Fran seems to be a bit under-rated. Two of my favorite episodes from the NBC years are "Fran's Dress" and "Ask Aunt Fran".

She's not typical at all; the way Rue plays her is wonderfully endearing, especially when you take into account Rue was not happy with the characterization. The fact that she took Frannie and gave her her all shows what a brilliant, consummate actress she really was. Vicki goes into some glowing detail on this on the box set bonus features, and on an installment of Shop NBC where she was promoting the set.

Quite. It's so great that this show is in a terrific high-end box set, and now back on TV for those without DVD.

Could someone explain why the episodes broadcast by Me-TV were broadcast like movies on film?

I'm pretty sure that they have sped them up so they are unedited for commercials. I can't watch them because it causes me to suffer motion sickness. However, I can listen to them just fine.

Me-TV posted a reply to this question on Facebook. They said Warner is to blame for the messed up video quality because they converted the series to high definition. Why they can't just use the same videotapes that TNT and Ion ran for years is a mystery to me but that's the reason they gave. The episodes have not been sped up. They are edited for time just like the episodes on TNT.

Oh great. Just great. First we have The Carol Burnett Show; now Mamas Family. Looks like MeTv is on a downward spiral.

The user named quincywagstaff was probably referring to the "reply" that should appear in a yellow rectangle for about a second if you or someone else were to select the following hyperlink: https://www.facebook.com/metvnetwork...22%3A%22R%22**

By the way, quincywagstaff, thank you for your response to my question above.

You're very welcome. And yes, I meant TBS not TNT. They ran the show for years and there must be non-HD versions of the show sitting in someone's vault somewhere.

I think they processed it thru something like "Filmlook". The only plus is that the color is better than it was on TBS--the syndication copies they used had washed-out color.

One other thing I noticed is that, like so many other old programs on digital (like "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Good Times"), the end credits have "jitter"--they don't play smoothly as they roll. I think this is an artifact of digital TV.
