Kreskin is still out there today doing stuff at 81. He was a David Letterman regular, which is how I know him. You guys have talked me into DVR-ing the 1:30 am showing, so I can see what happened.

^ The show was awesome, to me, except for "The Amazing Kreskin". What was that even about?? I LOVE Johnny, though, and Gabe Kaplan and Cindy Williams were VERY good. Poor Euell Gibbins though lol

Johnny Carson is my all-time favorite late-night host. I was VERY depressed when he ended his show, and I shed a few tears when he died. He was one of those rare celebrities who made his viewers feel like they were friends. He had a very quick wit, but his humor was never, ever mean-spirited. He never made his guests feel uncomfortable. And something I loved was how he would often have regular folks on as guests. He did not treat them any differently than the biggest stars he would have on.

I got all the jokes, due to my age, but younger people watching might not!! ! That's why I was saying on another thread one time that the Tonight show esp. older eps. might go over the younger people that post here heads!!! And other posters were arguing up and down with me, but I knew what I was talking about!!

Bonnie, you and I are about the same age. I'm just a year younger. It's funny that you remember all those jokes about Euell Gibbons because so do I! It has to mean something that two people who were only 11 or 12 year-old kids at the time can remember him so well! You never hear his name mentioned anymore, but back then (and I think our memories are backing this up) he was a household name. I recall a sketch on the Carol Burnett Show where they did a take-off on his Grape Nuts commercial. I think it was Tim Conway playing Euell Gibbons, and he was eating everything in sight. I And I can remember Euell Gibbons died there were jokes going around about how he died, jokes (of course) having to do with something he ate as he was known for eating virtually anything in his backyard. He died at a not very advanced age (mid 60s?), so it got people questioning his diet.

And yes, I remember Kung Fu! That was David Carradine. I used to watch that show often. It only ran for about two seasons, but left a big impression on me!

Do you remember Apple's Way by any chance? I can hear the theme music in my head as I type this

Many if not most famous and successful actors are uncomfortable being interviewed, especially by someone as legendary as Johnny Carson. When they're acting they're told what to do, what to say and where to stand. When they're being interviewed they're being themselves and they have no clue what to do. That's one of many good reasons not to take actor's political ramblings seriously. They're generally parroting what they've been told.

Oh wow, that's interesting. I assume it was just a one-shot for Valerie, maybe playing one of Apple kids' friend? There was someone on that show who was a regular -- one of the kids -- who became famous later on. I'm thinking maybe it was Helen Hunt? I remember Ronny Cox played the father. I think his character's name was George Apple. And I can see the mother's face, but don't remember the name of the actress. And I believe there was a grandfather living in their home, which was (I think) a mill converted into a house.

One episode that stands out in my mind was where George Apple thinks he's seen a UFO. He feels the responsible thing to do is report it to the authorities and to the local press that he's seen this flying saucer in the area. But everybody in town thinks he nuts. One of his kids comes home from school one day upset because the kids at school are teasing him about his father, calling him "apple saucer!" LOL And no, this show was a drama, not a sitcom. It was produced by Earl Hammer, creator of The Waltons, which was a huge hit at the time. CBS was hoping they'd score another hit show out of him. It wound up only running two seasons, or maybe just one and 1/2 seasons.

I did like the show, though. But I remember there was criticism the first year that the father was too perfect, always right (like the dad on Father Knows Best, I guess). So when it returned for the second season, they tried to make the father more human, less perfect. In the season opener, he got trapped under a shed or cellar out in the woods, trying to hide from a tornado, and he had to be rescued. It was a bit of a turnaround from the first season when Mr. Apple would have been the one doing the rescuing.

My gosh, I can't believe I even remember this much about that show. And I've got that theme song in my head again! Sheesh, it's been off the air 41 years (since late '74/early '75)! It's funny the things that stick in your memory. Another theme song I remember after all these years is Roots, which was 1977.

I was just wondering - Did Cindy still have long hair when she made this Carson appearance?

It had not been cut and was quite long (and beautiful!) in her Cannon episode that originally aired in March 1974.

No ,not long .Longer and fuller than when she played Shirley though. Bangs and almost shoulder length if I remember correctly? Like a pageboy haircut! It was very cute!
